Khabib Nurmagomedov decisively defeated Conor McGregor earlier this month (Sat., October 6, 2018).

“The Eagle” utilized his grappling to handle McGregor for the majority of the four rounds they shared together, before locking in a neck crank that forced the Irishman to tap out. Khabib’s performance was a dominant one. But McGregor would like an immediate rematch with the Russian.

While any other fighter might have a slim chance at securing such a rematch under these circumstances, it’s often likely McGregor will get what he wants. With that being said, McGregor’s friend and teammate, Artem Lobov, told media recently he believes McGregor deserves the rematch.

McGregor has never shied away from a challenge and is ready to fight any opponent at the drop of a dime. It’s for this reason “The Russian Hammer” believes a “real man” like McGregor deserves a rematch (via MMA Junkie):

“I think that’s the fight that makes sense,” Lobov said. “He’s made everyone in the UFC, including Khabib, a lot more money than they ever have made, so why not give him this? He’s been the guy that always took everybody on.

“There’s been many changes of opponents for him. He never blinked an eyelid – just took the fights, no problem. Never pulled out in his life. A true fighter. A fighter’s fighter. A real man. So give him the fight.”

As for Lobov, he will fight in the co-main event of tomorrow’s (Sat., October 27, 2018) UFC Moncton card against Michael Johnson.

Conor McGregor’s Attorney Says Cornermen Should Share Blame For UFC 229 Brawl

Conor McGregor’s attorney, Michael Mersch, has made it known that he hopes that all the cornermen involved in the UFC 229 brawl should take responsibility for their actions.

On Wednesday, the Nevada State Athletic Commission held a hearing regarding this incident. At the meeting, it was revealed that they would give extended the temporary suspension to both McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Following the main event fight, the UFC lightweight champion went flying out of the Octagon. He got into a brawl with some of McGregor’s teammates including his training partner Dillon Danis. There were many people trying to calm down the situation at the UFC 229 pay-per-view event. There were also some cornermen involved in the brawl.

McGregor and Khabib must face their punishment when they find out actual sanctions from the NSAC later this year. The commission will meet on December 10th where they will decide the fates of the two UFC stars.

NSAC chief Bob Bennett has made his stance known by stating that he puts part of the blame on both fighters’ managers.

McGregor’s Attorney Fires Back

However, McGregor’s attorney and former UFC legal counsel member, has fired back with a statement of his own. Those comments are about the cornermen taking the blame as well.

“But for the actions of Mr. Nurmagomedov, none of this would have happened.” Mersch said (via MMAjunkie). “I hope the commission will not just focus on the two fighters in this case. Because I think the commission has a history of looking at the actions of corner people, as well.”

Featherweight fighter Zubaira Tukhugov is a cornerman in question as he jumped the cage and blindsided McGregor. This was in the middle of the chaos that ensued. Mersch stated that although he’s not sure who was involved in the brawl, the NSAC can get those names.

“I don’t pretend to know the names or functions of every single person that was in and out of the octagon post-fight. But I assume that at least some of them were licensed by this commission.”

Mersch continued by stating the NSAC always looks at activities above and beyond the fighters themselves in these cases.

“And this commission, whether it was in the Zab Judah hearings, or the Mike Tyson ‘Bite Fight.’ The commission looks at activities above and beyond the fighters themselves. Once I have a complaint, we’re happy to address it with them.”

The Nevada State Athletic Commission’s (NSAC) executive director believes both fighters’ managers are just as responsible as the fighters for the UFC 229 brawl.

The NSAC held a hearing earlier today regarding Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov’s temporary suspensions being extended. The champ also got half of his $2 million payday released.

After the hearing, commision chief Bob Bennett laid at least partial blame at the feet of the fighters managers. However, Bennett stopped short of naming the reps.

“You should know that the Nevada State Athletic Commission made a concerted effort on two independent occasions to speak with both managers of both fighters and tell them, ‘Listen, we don’t want any problems during the ceremonial weigh-in and at the end of the fight,’” Bennett told MMAjunkie. “I specifically spoke with them.

“We didn’t want to be in a position that we’re in today had they would have managed their fighters in a professional manner. Unfortunately, they didn’t take heed to my comments, and that’s why we’re here today.”

Watch NSAC chief give his thoughts about culpability here:

Bennett did not speculate on the potential outcome of complaints against the fighters.

However, documents are currently being drafted by the Nevada attorney general’s office, which represents the commission in disciplinary matters.
