The final UFC event of 2017 is in the books. Now, it’s time to look at how the viewership for UFC 219 did on network television.

The ratings have come out, and the prelims for the show pulled in 914,000 viewers. By looking at the viewership numbers for prelims of pay-per-view events in 2017, it was the fourth-best number.

It’s a solid number if you look at the competition that the promotion had to go up against. It went head-to-head with the Orange Bowl, that did 11,727,000 viewers.

The prelims peaked with 998,000 viewers for the Michal Oleksiejczuk win over Khall Rountree. The prelims also averaged 10,928 viewers who were streaming the event live on FOX Sports Go and FOX Now.

The pre-fight show drew 209,000 viewers while the post-fight show did 119,000 viewers. Also, the weigh-ins on Friday pulled in 138,000 viewers.

The main card featured a main event that saw Cris Cyborg retaining her women’s featherweight title over Holly Holm by decision.

The three events that topped UFC 219 in viewership for 2017 were 1,033,000 for the prelims of the Tyson Woodley vs. Stephen Thompson fight in March, 1,148,000 for the prelims of the Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones fight in July, and 1,276,000 for Georges St-Pierre vs. Michael Bisping.

Here are the average viewership numbers for UFC PPV preliminary cards in 2017:

UFC 208 – 874,000

UFC 209 – 1,033,000

UFC 210 – 723,000

UFC 211 – 1,148,000

UFC 212 – 732,000

UFC 213 – 657,000

UFC 214 – 886,000

UFC 215 – 418,000

UFC 216 – 653,000

UFC 217 – 1,276,000

UFC 218 – 694,000

UFC 219 – 914,000

Fight fans will have to wait to see more UFC action. The next event is UFC St. Louis (Fight Night 124), which takes place on January 14, 2018 at Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri. The event will mark the promotion’s first visit to the city.

UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg successfully defended her title via decision against ex-bantamweight titleholder Holly Holm in the main event of UFC 219 last weekend (Dec. 30, 2017) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

With another UFC victory under her belt, talk immediately turned to just who Cyborg would fight next due to the fact that the promotion doesn’t really have a featherweight division filled with contenders.

UFC President Dana White has an idea though, and in a recent interview with Yahoo! Sports he said that a fight between Cyborg and 135-pound titleholder Amanda Nunes is the ‘fight to make’:

“Amanda Nunes wants to fight Cyborg,” White said. “That is the fight to make, and that is the fight I will make. That’s the fight.

“Amanda Nunes is a big, strong, powerful puncher. I think she matches up very well with Cyborg too, and I think that’s a fun fight. And that’s the fight to make.”

Not only is it a ‘fun’ fight like White mentioned, but it also appears to be the perfect timing for such a bout to take place given the fact that Nunes is also in need of a fresh challenger.

The 135-pound titleholder has won six consecutive bouts, while defending her strap two times to date. She owns notable victories over Miesha Tate and Ronda Rousey and she’s coming off of a second, albeit a bit controversial, win over Valentina Shevchenko.

Would you like to see Cyborg and Nunes share the cage?

Yesterday (Jan. 3, 2018), UFC Featherweight champion Cris Cyborg took to social media to announce that not only had she been offered a fight against Invicta FC champion Megan Anderson at Feb. 10’s UFC 221 in Perth, Australia, but that she had accepted the bout as well.

That, however, doesn’t appear to be the case, as Anderson later responded, saying that the fight had not been offered, and that she would not be ready to compete at UFC 221:

Cyborg and Anderson were scheduled to face off at UFC 214 last July, but Anderson was forced to withdraw, citing personal issues as the reason why.

The Brazilian is coming off of a successful title defense against Holly Holm at this past weekend’s (Dec. 30, 2017) UFC 219.

Anderson, on the other hand, has won four consecutive bouts.

UFC 221 is currently set to be headlined by a middleweight title bout between champion Robert Whittaker and ex-titleholder Luke Rockhold.

Cris Cyborg just successfully defended her UFC featherweight title for the very first time, scoring a decision victory over Holly Holm this past weekend (Dec. 30, 2017) at UFC 219, but it looks as if she may be getting right back into training camp.

Earlier today (Jan. 3, 2018), the Brazilian took to her official Instagram account to announce that she has agreed to fight Megan Anderson at UFC 221 on Feb. 10, 2018 in Perth, Australia.

Anderson, the reigning Invicta FC featherweight champion, is currently riding a four-fight winning streak that includes victories over Amber Leibrock, Amanda Bell, Peggy Morgan and Charmaine Tweet.

Cyborg and Anderson were originally scheduled to meet at UFC 214 last July, but Anderson was forced to withdraw due to personal reasons.

The bout has not yet been confirmed by the UFC, but it would likely serve as the event’s co-headliner, as UFC 221 is set to be headlined by a middleweight title fight between champion Robert Whittaker and Luke Rockhold.
