Looking to shake off his first-ever knockout loss at March’s UFC 222, former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar made a shockingly fast turnaround to face Cub Swanson in the main event of tonight’s (Sat., April 21, 2018) UFC Fight Night 128 from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The bout was a rematch of their 2014 affair which “The Answer” won by dominant fifth-round submission, and this time around the New Jersey native was able to pick up the win yet again.

But unable to secure the takedown this time, Edgar utilized his striking to best Swanson in the three-round affair. When it was all said and done “The Answer” emerged victorious and revealed his plans to get back into the featherweight title picture against the winner of UFC 226’s Max Holloway vs. Briant Ortega.

It was a tough, hard-fought win that, while perhaps not being as spectacular as his loss, was a testament to his overall heart and skill as one of the most consistent fighters ever at 155 and 145 pounds.

Things did not go the way that Cub Swanson wanted in his latest fight.

As seen in the co-main event of Saturday’s UFC Atlantic City (April 21, 2018) at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey on FOX Sports 1, former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar picked up a decision win over Swanson.

This marks the second time that the two fighters have fought each other with Edgar winning both bouts. If you recall, back at UFC Fight Night 57 in November 2014, Edgar scored a fifth-round submission win over Swanson.

However, coming into their second meeting, Swanson believed that he could write the wrong of that loss. That was not meant to be as seen in the fight.

This is Swanson’s second straight loss as he previously lost to #1 contender Brian Ortega, who is slated to challenge Max Holloway for the featherweight title at the upcoming UFC 226 pay-per-view event in July, back in December at a Fight Night event.

After that loss, he decided to test out free agency but decided it was the right thing to re-sign with the UFC.

Swanson took his to his official Instagram account to issue the following statement on the loss, which you can read here:

“Well not the outcome I was looking for ? but that’s the fight game. Congrats Frankie & I’m sorry to hear about your father ?? To all my supporters “Thank you so much & I promise to come back stronger!”

UFC Fight Night 128 went down tonight (Saturday, April 21, 2018) from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. The main event saw thrilling lightweight contenders Edson Barboza and Kevin Lee square up. Lee completely dominated large portions of the contest with his top control, passes, and ground and pound. But a battered Barboza nearly pulled off the Hail Mary win with a spinning heel kick in the third round, putting Lee on roller skates. “The Motown Phenom” shot in, managed a takedown, and survived. He continued to beat up Barboza while withstanding the Brazilian’s desperate haymakers to elicit a doctor’s stoppage in the fifth.

The co-headliner was a rematch between hometown favorite Frankie Edgar and fellow vet Cub Swanson. Edgar gave the Jersey faithful something to cheer about, out-kickboxing Swanson for three rounds.
