One of the most dangerous fighters in women’s MMA history, Cris Cyborg Justino returned to action last night. Fighting in the main event of Saturday September 24’s UFC Fight Night 95, Cyborg put on a show. Cruising to a second round TKO against Lansberg in Brazil further proved Cris Cyborg’s status, but also leads to more questions. Currently the Invicta FC featherweight champion, Justino finds herself in an odd position in terms of weight. Her brutal cut to 140 pounds has been well documented, and there’s no sign of a 145-pound division in the UFC’s near future.

Cybrog’s long-standing rivalry with Ronda Rousey has always been hindered by weight related issues. Killing herself to make catchweight of 140 pounds is hard enough, and it’s obvious that bantamweight is simply impossible. Following her win in Brasilia, Justino spoke at the post-fight press conference to address the issues surrounding her weight cut and her potential clash with ‘Rowdy.’

Cyborg (Still) Wants Super Fights

“I’m willing to cry to make 140 pounds. I want the super fights for my fans. I never picked a fight, but I want to fight the women’s bantamweights. I will cut down to 140, but I don’t think they will go up to the catchweight.”

“I hope (they) can eat pizza and go up to 140. I hope we can make the fight everybody wants to see, and that’s me and Ronda (Rousey). I’m very happy with my performance, it’s been tough, I fought in May and now I just fought again. I’m thinking of a vacation now, and then I want super fights. I think my fights will go down in history.”

What’s Next?

With Ronda Rousey’s rumoured return at UFC 207 against Amanda Nunes, Cris Cyborg could easily miss out on fighting her rival in 2016. The lack of the women’s featherweight category in the UFC also plays against the Brazilian KO artist. If one thing is for sure, it’s that nothing is for sure in terms of Cyborg’s future.

Will Ronda be willing to eat pizza and fight at 140?

Recent UFC signee and Invicta FC featherweight champion Cristiane Justino landed on the world’s largest mixed martial arts stage with a bang this past May 14. Taking on Leslie Smith in a 140-pound catchweight bout UFC 198, Cybrog dazzled in front of the Brazilian crowd. As expected the former Strikeforce champion did not waste any time in dispatching Smith, who had never been stopped by strikes before that night (one doctor stoppage due to exploded ear), with a brutal flurry of unanswered shots.

With the win came a number of newly opened doors for Justino, who had en rallying for a fight with long time champion Ronda Rousey for years. It just so happened that Cyborg only made it to the UFC once ‘Rowdy’ had been dethroned, read in to that what you will. It wasn’t long after her fight with Smith that Cyborg revealed she’d go back to Invicta in the absence of a UFC featherweight division to compete in, stating the cut down to 140 pounds was simply too gruelling.

With Ronda Rousey absent for the moment, more occupied with surgery and Hollywood movie roles, there was concern that Cyborg could possibly be one-and-done in the UFC. Then came the brewing of a fight with Miesha Tate, the current UFC women’s bantamweight champion who dethroned Rousey-slayer Holly Holm at UFC 195. Justino and ‘Cupcake’ have both expressed interest in squaring off, and this recent interview with Cyborg sheds more light on both potential fight with Rowdy’ and Tate.

Speaking with MMAJunkie Radio, the Brazilian knockout artist Cristiane Justino says both Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate are scalps she plans on claiming this year.

usa-today-9295281.0[1]

“The first (fight I want) is ‘Cyborg’ and Ronda, and the second one, if Ronda doesn’t come back soon, I can fight Miesha – and it’s ‘Cyborg’ and Miesha. (The) UFC, I know it’s the best event and they want to make the best fights for the fans. Miesha is a two-time world champ, she’s a Strikeforce champ and is now UFC champ. After this fight, if she really wants to challenge herself just ask for me: ‘I want to fight “Cyborg” at 140’ and we can fight for all the fans.”

“I think Ronda, she doesn’t want to fight me, she only want to say that,” Justino said. “If she really want to fight me, of course I would promote this fight. The fight is the one all the fans want to watch. This time was really special to me when I fight in Brazil,” Justino said. “It was a great opportunity for me, I run seven miles every day so I can make 140 and it was special. All my fans know I’m always ready for a big super fight for my fans.”

Watch this space, but if Cyborg is good to her word, we could well see the first women’s superfight in UFC history. Kinda.

Cris Cyborg Trolls Ronda Rousey With Bizarre Video

Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino is coming hot off a first round knockout win over Leslie Smith in her UFC debut in her hometown of Curitiba, Brazil at UFC 198, and is desperate to finally get her shot at the former UFC bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey.

Less than 24-hours after defeating Smith in her hometown of Curitiba, ‘Cyborg’ called out Rousey via Twitter to a potential showdown at the UFC’s first ever event in Madison Square Garden at UFC 205:

Now Justino has taken it a step further, taunting ‘The Rowdy One’ in a new Running Man Challenge video alongside a little friend. The two are seen below wearing Rousey masks, dancing to Ghost Town DJ’s ‘My Boo’:

According to reports per FOX Sports’ Elias Cepeda, the Brazilian’s next fight is to go down at July 29th’s Invicta FC 18 event where Justino is expected to defend her featherweight title.

‘Cyborg’ is also said to be open to doing another catchweight bout in the UFC, however, only against a champion or Rousey. Following her debut at UFC 198, Justino was linked to rumors of a possible bout between Germaine de Randamie at UFC 201.

Cyborg later disputed these claims via Twitter, stating her next bout would be to defend her Invicta FC featherweight title:

No official word has yet come on when ‘Cyborg’s’ next bout will be, or if she will make a return to the UFC, however a bout with Rousey would certainly be a spectacle in of itself regardless of what card it takes place. After so much frustration and difficulty getting Justino to the UFC’s main stage, many fans had hoped she’d perhaps leave behind the Invicta title, but without a featherweight division in the UFC that would always be an unlikely scenario.

Stay with LowKick for the latest on ‘Cyborg’ and when she might make her highly-anticipated Octagon return.

Cris Cyborg Predicted Rousey’s Emotional Meltdown During Spooky Interview

Remember back when Cris Cyborg Justino was crushing the competition outside the UFC and had serious beef with women’s bantamweight champ of the time Ronda Rousey? It wasn’t that long ago, and many believed that Justino would never join the promotion where she really belonged, as hurdles seemed to continuously present themselves at inopportune moments during negotiations. For a number of reasons, including Tito Ortiz, weight, steroid allegations and the UFC’s apparent hesitance, Cyborg seemed destined to serve out her career on the fringe of the biggest MMA organization.

As they often do, circumstances in the women’s MMA scene changed overnight, with Ronda Rousey losing her title in a ground breaking KO at the hands of Holly Holm at UFC 193. Fast forward two pay-per-view events and it was Holm getting slept, this time by a rampant Miesha Tate at UFC 195. Suddenly the race was wide open, no longer dominated by the wrought iron grip of ‘Rowdy.’

In a stark contrast to the events of previous years gone by, Cyborg’s weight suddenly became a moot point. Surprisingly she was signed under the media radar, with the announcement of her UFC joining coming pretty much out of the blue. 140 pounds catchweight was the agreed limit, and she’d be facing Leslie Smith in her debut at UFC 198 this weekend (Saturday May 14, 2016).

As Rousey now laid dormant in the shadows of her first professional loss, the platform was finally set for Justino’s long awaited debut, an the Invicta FC featherweight champion wouldn’t have to stray far from her preferred weight division. Although not completely doused, the flames of her feud with Rousey were beaten back considerably.

CyborgSMith1

So as we await the blockbuster Brazilian-filled UFC 198 action, there’s been little talk of the rivalry between Cyborg and Rousey. Rumours have swirled about the former champion’s return, but her obligations to multiple movie contracts have put it on the backburner for the moment.

But one particular interview with Cyborg about ‘Rowdy’ is eerily accurate…

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has made history during her time under the promotion, featuring a number of records that could well go unbroken for many years. She arguably helped spearhead the initial explosion of women’s MMA in the mainstream, but still she has proved to be one of the most loved and hated figures in the spot. Perhaps it’s just the way she was portrayed during her dominant reign as champion, or maybe you could attribute the negativity to a certain amount of jealousy or just immaturity. Whatever the case, ‘Rowdy’ faced a lot of these bad vibes in a sudden deflagration following UFC 193.

ronda-rousey-memes_12[1]

This, and many other hurtful memes made Ronda Rousey’s shocking KO loss to Holly Holm one of the most broadcasted and viewed moments in MMA history. The mixed martial arts community seemed to revel in the fact she’d fallen with such a thump, although as previously discussed it probably had a lot to do with the UFC’s ‘in your face/down your throat’ style of promotion. For all her hard work and crazy finishes inside the octagon, it seems as though Rousey had made very few friends, and a whole line of enemies.

One such enemy includes ferocious Invicta champion Cris Cyborg Justino.

The hard hitting former Strikeforce champion finally signed with the UFC this ear, but sadly a little too late to capitalize on her stewing beef with Ronda Rousey. During the former champions tenure she blasted Cyborg Justino as a ‘steroid junkie,’ and UFC president Dana White even joined in, poking fun at Justino as ‘Wanderlei Silva in a dress.’ How the tables have turned, as Rousey ate her words in front of millions, and now it’s her Brazilian foe who’s taking every opportunity to lambaste ‘Rowdy.’

Don’t think that because Rousey is on a break from fighting, Cyborg isn’t going to takes shots at her. This recent intervew shows the Brazilian brawler is not pulling her punches, and you’ll want to check this out…

Superfight Alert: Cris Cyborg Planning to Drop to 135 Pounds, Wants to “Retire” Rousey

(via AXS TV Fights)

After ages of posturing and Tito Ortiz-inspired idiocy, Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino has finally decided to drop to 135 pounds, with the goal of retiring UFC women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey like she did to Strikeforce star Gina Carano in 2009.

Justino made the announcement on Inside MMA this past Friday. Here is her statement in full:

After ages of posturing and Tito Ortiz-inspired idiocy, Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino has finally decided to drop to 135 pounds, with the goal of retiring UFC women’s bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey like she did to Strikeforce star Gina Carano in 2009.

Justino made the announcement on Inside MMA this past Friday. Here is her statement in full:

“In reference to Ronda’s statement that I am looking for a payday so that I can retire, you’re right, I am looking for a payday to retire you like I did Gina Carano. But to show it’s not only about money, I challenge you to a fight – winner takes all. Or better yet let’s fight for FREE. ANYTIME! ANYWHERE! Ask your daddy Dana to make it happen.

My English is not that great, so sorry if I was misunderstood. I didn’t literally mean I would die if I made 135. What I meant was that my doctor recommended that I did not fight the rest of my career at 135, which is what the UFC wanted.

You have fought 154 in the Olympics and 145 in MMA. You can meet me at 140 easier than for me to go down to 135. The only reason you want the fight at 135 is because you feel that is your only chance because you hope the weight cut will affect me. You guys say I’m irrelevant, yet watch my highlights. The true MMA fans not only know me, but know I’m the best. Sad that you give the true MMA fans no recognition by saying that they don’t matter.

I’m currently training to fight at 145 on March 28 and in early May. My team has hired a medical doctor to help me make 135. I plan to challenge and win the Invicta 135 Championship in the summer and challenge you, champion to champion, for your 135 belt in December.

Now I know critics will say “I thought you said you would die if you made 135.” All I’m promising is that I will give 100 percent to try to get to 135 to make this plan happen. If I do, I will still listen to my doctor’s advice and fight no more than three times at 135: first to win the Invicta belt, the second time to kick your ass and the third time to kick your ass again so that the world can see it wasn’t luck. You can even have me tested every week up to the fight. That way you will not have an excuse after I kick your ass.”

Hard words from a hard woman. One would imagine that Justino’s drop to 135 would inevitably result in the oft-speculated about match with Ronda Rousey. Justino herself certainly seems to think so. And even though she’s still under contract with Invicta FC, her manager doesn’t think that’ll be an issue if the UFC wants to put the biggest women’s fight of all time together.

So, Potato Nation, if Cyborg and Rousey do lock horns, who wins?
