It’s been 10 months since the late-great Kimbo Slice took his last walk to the cage to participate in mixed martial arts (MMA) competition, and the bout took the co-main event slot of Bellator 149 from Houston, Texas in February where Slice threw down with Dhafir “Dada 5000” Harris.

Slice would take home the TKO win in the third round of the contest, and Dada would be escorted out of the arena on a stretcher to a local hospital where he was in critical condition for an extended period of time. The result of the bout was later overturned to a No Contest, however, as Slice would later test positive for a banned substance.

Harris recently joined the Go 4 It Show with Paul Gant (courtesy of MMA Mania) to discuss the bout, where he claimed that he may have been poisoned before the fight because he felt something was ‘definitely not clean’ in the water that night:

“Man listen I’m not insinuating. Something in the water was definitely not clean. I came there to compete. Kimbo’s been there before. This is my first time being on the level of that magnitude, right? But I had been on various other levels. I already was prominent,

“I already was a figure, already was known to millions of individuals worldwide prior to me coming to Bellator right? I took on certain things and they seen that there was no fear inside me, and all I’m saying is what happened to me. Who did it? That remains to be seen.”

Dada would then go on to state that he believes Bellator knew that Slice was on banned substances before their bout, but allowed him to compete given the magnitude of the event:

“For me to pass a drug test, they took urine and so forth from me 30 minutes before I went out in the fight. They came back and said it was good. They also did the same thing to Kimbo Slice. So at the end of the day if they came back and told me I was good, I’m pretty sure they told him something else. But that remains to be something that production has to deal with because I do understand that the fight was that big.”

kimbo-slice-4[1]Harris believes the entire situation was designed to allow Slice to compete with an upper hand to ‘destroy’ him in attempt to make the ‘backyard movement’ look like fools:

“You know I really feel like it was designed for Kimbo Slice to come out on steroids and just destroy me in front of the world, and make me and the backyard movement look like a laughing joke. It didn’t look like that. I still lasted to the third round.”

Throughout the bout’s progression Harris feels as though Slice may have been intimidated by his stand-up game, and that is why he decided to take the bout to the ground:

“You’ve got the skills, you had the technique, you had the experience. Your hands were supposed to be legitimately better than mine. I was willing to come out and duke it out with that dude. I didn’t take him to the ground. When we went to the ground he took ME to the ground, but he’s the boxing beast. I was willing to get out there and trade hands with you, but when I rushed him back to the cage, survival mode kicked in.”

The fight was certainly one of the most bizarre (to say the least) things we’ve seen inside of an MMA cage, but do you truly believe Dada could have been poisoned?

Dada 5000 Tells Full, Crazy Story Regarding His Health Issues After Kimbo Fight

dada-5000-2

After breaking his silence on social media recently, Dhafir Harris, better known as Dada 5000, spoke in-depth about his recent Bellator MMA fight against Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson during his appearance on “The Dan LeBatard Show.”

Dada 5000 lost via third round TKO to Kimbo Slice back in February inside the Bellator MMA cage, an infamous fight that saw Dada 5000 officially pronounced dead afterwards.

“When I actually fell inside that ring, Kimbo Slice never touched me,” said Dada 5000 during his appearance on the show. “I had a heart attack. So, when I slammed against the cage and I went down, that was just the beginning.”

Dada 5000 continued, “The heart is a muscle, so when the kidneys shut down and I’m still pushing, the next thing to go was the heart. So when my heart stopped, it’s like, I was out of it. I didn’t remember nothing. When they brought me back, I was inside the hospital and they said that I had two heart attacks — and this is on paper we can provide to you guys. I had two heart attacks and I [flat-lined] twice. And for me, I was just thanking God, like, I’m here for a real reason. Because there’s individuals out there who didn’t go through a fraction of what I went through and they’re no longer breathing.”

Harris would go on to elaborate, continuing his amazing story by walking fans through everything he remembers from fight night on.

“I remember bits and pieces of the second round,” Harris said. “Where I hit Kimbo and he just dropped his hands. And I’m looking at a home-run at that point, but my body was so done, I couldn’t even follow up. Even when he was on all fours, and I was tapping him, I’m thinking, ‘yo, if I would’ve had a little more power, that would’ve been over at that point.’ So I was feeling like I was anxious.

“I was thinking to myself, ‘what is actually going on with me?’ I didn’t know at that time, medically, that my kidneys had locked up on me and that I was having a heart attack. And the last thing that I remember is that I was leaning on him, and he shifted away from me. He swung, but he missed, and I stumbled and I went down. The next thing, I woke up hours later and I was inside the hospital.

“I was dead,” Harris added. “When you talk about your spirit leaving your body, looking at the light, but it’s not your time to go, and you actually get brought back, that was my situation. Because I was pronounced dead, and they kept working, kept working, kept working. And I died minutes apart.”

He acknowledged the fact that his drastic weight cut, which saw him lose nearly 40 pounds in a short period of time, played a big factor in his heath issues after the fight.

“I probably pushed myself,” Harris said. “Instead of taking a couple months, I probably double-timed it. So I wouldn’t say (I cut weight) poorly. I think that my body was not used to that, because I’m not a full-time fighter. So I don’t fight regularly. I’m a promoter, I’m a matchmaker, I do a lot of things inside my organization with BYB and inside the backyard. I’m a part-time dude, so I fight like every couple years. So at the end of the day, I think that my body having so much time being off, and to push it from zero to 60, that could be something to focus on.”

Dada 5000 wrapped up the remarkable story by pointing out the fact that even two months after the fact, he is still on dialysis as a result of the renal failure. Harris also spoke about his family and his faith being major contributing factors to his successful turnaround.

“I come from a spiritual background,” Harris said. “I’m laying on the gurney, the bed. Now, they say when a person is inside of a coma, be careful of what you say because they can hear you but they cannot respond to you. The last thing that goes is your hearing. So I’m listening to the doctors say, ‘well, listen, we have to drill a hole inside of his head. We have to release the pressure on his brain. We have to put this chip or something inside so we can get the response from him that we want.’ And my brothers and them were like, ‘no, you’re not doing that.’ So they were telling me, ‘Dada, if you hear what they’re trying to do to you, move your hand. Move your right hand.’ And I couldn’t. I was stuck.

“I was screaming to the top of my lungs, no, do not let them do that to me. And I’m going to tell you something, my will to live superseded anything else. I really just focused on my hands, and I moved my hands, and they were like, ‘doc, look, he’s moving his hands! Move your other hand.’ And I moved my other hand.

“The doctors were like, ‘wow, it’s a miracle. Like, no, it’s God. You haven’t seen anything yet. And later that day, I’m laying back and my eyes just opened up a little bit, and then I actually opened them up. They had tubes and everything running down my throat. They had originally written me off.”

Dada 5000 was stretchered out of the arena and taken to a hospital following his fight with Kimbo Slice at Bellator 149. It was revealed that Dada 5000, whose real name is Dhafir Harris, had two heart attacks as a result of the fight.

Dada 5000 recently spoke out on the situation during a recent appearance on The Dan LeBatard Show.

“When I actually fell inside that ring, Kimbo Slice never touched me,” Harris said. “I had a heart attack. So, when I slammed against the cage, and I went down, that was just the beginning.”

“I remember bits and pieces of the second round,” Harris said. “Where I hit Kimbo, and he just dropped his hands. The next thing, I woke up hours later, and I was inside the hospital.”

Dada 5000 claims that he died as a result of the fight. Doctors kept working on him to try to bring him back to life, which is exactly what happened.

“I was dead,” Harris added. “When you talk about your spirit leaving your body, looking at the light, but it’s not your time to go, and you actually get brought back, that was my situation. Because I was pronounced dead, and they kept working, kept working, kept working. And I died minutes apart.”

“I come from a spiritual background,” Harris said. “I’m laying on the gurney, the bed. Move your right hand.’ And I couldn’t. I was stuck.”

Dada 5000 explained that he was trying to talk but just couldn’t but was able to use his hands as a sign of life, which alerted the doctors that he was alive.

“I was screaming to the top of my lungs, no, do not let them do that to me. And I’m going to tell you something, my will to live superseded anything else. I really just focused on my hands, and I moved my hands, and they were like, ‘doc, look, he’s moving his hands! Move your other hand.’ And I moved my other hand.”

And later that day, I’m laying back, and my eyes just opened up a little bit, and then I actually opened them up. They had tubes and everything running down my throat. They had originally written me off.”

Following this situation, it’s highly unlikely that Bellator MMA will book him to fight again.

Dear God, No: Is Dada 5000 Actually Considering Another MMA Fight?

(Unless he plans on actually using that sledgehammer, this is going to end poorly.)

Vince Lombardi was once famously quoted as saying that “It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up” that is the true measure of a man. Then again, he also died of stupid butthole cancer because he was too proud to get a proctoscopic exam, so what the f*ck does he know?

What we’re getting at is, there comes a time in everyone’s life where throwing in the towel doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re refusing (or unable) to get up. In the combat sports world especially, we’ve seen countless fighters place ego above all else and continue fighting well beyond the point that their bodies have told them to stop, and to what end? (More often than not,  few wholly unnecessary concussions.

So if you were, say, a 38-year-old guy who nearly died from kidney failure while competing in your first MMA fight in 5 years, you’d probably hang up the 4 oz. gloves for good and thank your God for bringing you out of that coma you were in, right? Well, not if you’re Dada 5000 you wouldn’t!

Despite spending two weeks in a hospital following his near-fatal loss to Kimbo Slice at Bellator 149, it looks like Dada 5000 aka Dhafir Harris might actually be considering another fight. In a statement posted to his instagram this morning, Dada cleared up what went down on the night of Bellator 149 — which was somehow much, much worse than you think — and kinda sorta hinted that he would be returning to the cage to give this silly little sport another try.

The post has since been taken down, but BloodyElbow was able to grab a screenshot:

Wait, so Dada not only suffered kidney failure, but two heart attacks during the fight *and* coded? And he still wants to fight?!!

You know what, f*ck it. You’ve earned this, Mr. 5000. (*salutes*)

Probably the saddest thing about this whole idea is the fact that Bellator will DEFINITELY book him another fight. Hell, they’ve probably already started hyping up Dada vs. Kimbo II.

“One has heart-stopping power, the other can literally come back from the dead! Tune in this summer to see the sequel to the ultimate street brawl at Bellator 188: Coronary!!”

I know Bellator doesn’t typically name their events, but you get the picture.
