Next up on the UFC Stockholm main card is a lightweight bout between Damir Hadzovic and Christos Giagos.

Round 1:

Giagos lands a hard body kick to get things started. Hadzovic stuffs a nice takedown attempt. A nice leg kick lands for Giagos, and he follows up with a bod kick, right into a huge takedown into side control. Hadzovic scrambles to his feet nicely, only to get taken down by Giagos again. Hadzovic and hits Giagos with some hard shots to end the round.

Round 2:

Both men come out hard in the second round, Hadzovic looking a bit rocked after a lead uppercut but maintains his composure. Some nice combinations being put together by Giagos now, who senses that Hadzovic is less than 100 percent.

Giagos with a nice takedown into half guard. Back to the feet for Hadzovic, but Giagos again with the takedown, going to try to take the back of Hadzovic against the cage. Hadzovic is again able to get back to his feet.

Body kick from Giagos who follows up with a failed takedown attempt. Both men are very tired at this point. Hadzovic puts Giagos on his back with a perfectly timed takedown to end the round.

Round 3:

A nice takedown from Giagos early on to start the round. Hadzovic gets to his feet after Giagos stood up to adjust position. Hadzovic catches Giagos with a left hook as he circles away, but Giagos makes him pay with a quick takedown, which Hadzovic gets back to his feet after pretty quickly.

Hadzovic lands a nice shot, and Giagos is put on his back after failing to takedown Hadzovic. Giagos throws up a triangle attempt for a split second while on the ground. Nothing of significance lands for Hadzovic as he is on top, and Giagos gets to his feet to end the round, and the fight.

Official Result: Christos Giagos def. Damir Hadzovic via unanimous decision (29-27, 29-27, 29-28)

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Sunday, July 22, 2018) will come from in the form of UFC Hamburg. Headlining the card are Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Anthony Smith, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.

Nick Hein vs. Damir Hadzovic in a featherweight bout closes the preliminary card on FOX Sports 1 in what should be an interesting fight.

Emil Weber Meek vs. Bartosz Fabinski is next in a welterweight bout.

Khalid Taha vs. Nad Narimani is next in a featherweight bout.

Justin Ledet vs. Aleksandar Rakic in a light heavyweight bout opens the FOX Sports 1 preliminary bouts.

Davey Grant vs. Manny Bermudez in a bantamweight bout finishes off the UFC Fight Pass preliminary card.

Darko Stosic vs. Jeremy Kimball is next in a light heavyweight bout.

Opening the UFC Fight Pass prelims is Damian Stasiak vs.Liu Pingyuan in a bantamweight bout.

UFC Fight Night 109 went down today (Sunday, May 28, 2017) from the Ericcson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden. The headliner saw top light heavyweights Alexander Gustafsson and Glover Teixeira lock horns in a homecoming bout for the Swedish “Mauler”. They would each go home $50,000 richer for their Fight of the Night.

Both men were bloodied inside the first two rounds. Teixeira had superior one-punch power that had Gustafsson on his heels, often forcing him to turn his back and run to get back to open space. But the Swede’s superior hand speed and boxing skill gradually took over. His right uppercut was devastating in particular. Gustafsson closed the show in the fifth and final round with three of them in quick succession. A final cross sent a dazed Teixeira crashing to the canvas.

Two surprising preliminary knockouts earned Performance of the Night. After getting controlled on the mat for the first two rounds by Bellator vet and grappling specialist Marcin Held, Damir Hadzovic brought the fight to an abrupt end with a kill-shot knee in round three. Held appeared to be executing an ill-advised Imanari roll that “The Bosnian Bomber” met with a perfect knee strike. Follow-up blows came but were ultimately unnecessary. Hadzovic pocketed an extra $50,000 for his come-from-behind win.

Later on, Bojan Velickovic battled Nico Musoke in a close back-and-forth fight before ending it suddenly at the very end of round three. Musoke pressed aggressively forward, trying to put a final stamp on the fight to seal up a decision he seemed likely to earn. A counter right hook from a retreating Velickovic took away Musoke’s equilibrium and put him on roller skates. Unable to regain solid footing, Musoke fell to his back where Velickovic met him with coffin-nail standing-to-ground punches that sealed. Possibly fighting for his UFC roster spot, Velickovic emerged $50,000 richer with his Performance of the Night.
