The ageless wonder that is Jim Miller earned his 27th win inside the Octagon at UFC 309, where he submitted Damon Jackson on the preliminary card.

The record holder for the most fights and victories in UFC history extended both stats after he caught his opponent in a vintage Miller guillotine choke for the first-round finish.

The 21st submission win of his career saw him bounce back from a one-sided loss to Bobby Green at UFC 300 this past April, and it doesn’t look like he is going anywhere just yet. He told Joe Rogan in his post-fight interview that at 41 years old, he’s still got a few more left in him while also pointing out his incredible record for finishing fights at the highest level.

Jon Anik did bring attention on the broadcast to Jackson laying his gloves down inside the Octagon in retirement but declining a post-fight interview. He moved up to lightweight for this fight after a decision loss to Chepe Mariscal last time out, seemingly ending his UFC career with a record of 6-6, in addition to one no contest and one draw.

MMA fans reacted to Miller’s slick submission win at the world’s most famous arena via social media. Miller even got a tip of the hat from a man that will always show respect for any fighter that jumps for the guillotine choke, Dustin Poirier.

‘Nobody Likes Tom’ - UFC Fighter Tells Aspinall to ‘Stop Whining’ About Jon Jones

Damon Jackson is tired of hearing Tom Aspinall whine about Jon Jones supposedly ducking him.

On Saturday night, Jones will return to the Octagon for the first time since his quickfire submission victory over Ciryl Gane to claim the undisputed heavyweight title. To the delight of some and the chagrin of many, ‘Bones’ will finally face two-time titleholder Stipe Miocic at UFC 309.

Meanwhile, interim champion Tom Aspinall will continue to sit on the sidelines and wait to see if his next fight will be against Jones, Miocic, or possibly neither.

Aspinall has been quite vocal about his displeasure with the situation at heavyweight. Specifically, Jones avoiding a title unification clash with him in order to pursue a legacy fight against Miocic that amounts to very little in the grand scheme of things.

Damon Jackson insists aspinall’s constant complains make him look ‘petty’

And while a majority of fighters and fans have seemingly sided with Aspinall, Damon Jackson is definitely not one of them.

“Nobody likes Tom, I hate to say it,” Jackson told Parry Punch. “I think he’s a great fighter, for sure. He’s annoying as f*ck. He gets so whiny about the whole Jon Jones thing. You’re not going to say anything that’s going to draw him out to fight you at all. If he wants to fight you, he’ll fight. If he doesn’t, then just shut up about it because it’s not going to happen … and he just looks petty. I get what he’s saying, for sure — he should be called the champion.

“But, the fact that he’s whining and complaining about Jon fighting Stipe — that fight was already booked before he was even interim champion. And the reason it didn’t happen was because Jon got hurt. It happens all the time. It’s not like he’s inactive. Everyone gets pissed when Dana calls him the greatest of all time. Like, he is” (h/t MMA Mania).

Jackson will be back in action this weekend and in desperate need of a big win after coming up short in three of his last four outings. The Leech’ will face Octagon icon Jim Miller during the UFC 309 prelims as the promotion makes its annual pit stop inside the legendary Madison Square Garden in NYC.

Miller will be making his 45th walk to the Octagon and — like Jackson — is looking to climb back into the win column after suffering a unanimous decision loss against ‘King’ Bobby Green at UFC 300.

Damon Jackson is set for the biggest test of his career when he faces Dan Ige in a co-main bout this Saturday at UFC Vegas 67.

Jackson is coming off of the best performance of his life that saw his knockout of Pat Sabatini in just 69 seconds, setting him up for a ranked opponent. Dan Ige is a difficult opponent for Damon Jackson as his volume striking and wrestling defense make him a force to be reckoned with. However, Jackson feels he is up to the challenge and re-iterated that sentiment in a recent exclusive interview with LowKickMMA. 

“He’s just another dude in my way and I’ve got to get past him to get to where I want to be. It’s a tough fight, but I like the fight a lot. Ige is very well-rounded so I’ve got my work cut out for me. My wrestling has got to be on point, my jiu-jitsu has got to be on point, and then obviously his striking is through the roof. I’ve been doing a lot of defensive work and I think if everything goes as planned, I should take care of business. It’s definitely going to be a tough fight though.” 

Damon Jackson has also worked with James Krause, the UFC coach, who is currently in the middle of a gambling investigation. Jackson was scheduled to fight Darrick Minner, the fighter involved in the controversy last year, although the fight never came to fruition after Minner suffered an injury. Despite training at Fortis MMA in Texas, Jackson feels for Krause, as this situation develops. 

“I feel bad because I know James [Krause] and I know Darrick [Minner] and they both have families and kids. It sucks that they did something stupid and I hate to see them get in so much trouble because no matter what happens, they are going to lose time with their family. It’s frustrating for sure because you don’t want to see that in our sport.“

“James Krause was the guy that I started training with when I first began training in MMA. I had my first few amateur first under Krause and I have learned a lot from him so it sucks to see what happened to him. I know he feels bad and he has kids, but it was just a bad choice on his part.” 

Damon Jackson is 5-1 since returning to the UFC in late 2020 with his loss at the hands of Ilia Topuria. Jackson is looking to solidify himself as a contender in 2023 and that all starts when he takes on Dan Ige this Saturday. Check out the full interview right here:
