UFC CEO Dana White has never shied away from talking about fighter pay.

One of the biggest criticisms around boxing and MMA is that fighters are not being paid a lot of money. However, White has defended what the UFC has paid fighters and has had support from fighters as well.

Although boxers can make upwards of $50 million a fight, some lower-end boxers don’t get paid much. But, speaking on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, White compared boxing to UFC pay and pointed to boxing being on life support.

“Boxing got so f*****up that nobody could make a living out of it, that Saudi Arabia had to take it over. A group of people that have so much money, they don’t care whether they make or lose money,” White said (via GiveMeSport).

White then claimed all UFC fighters are taken care of from top-to-bottom. White then said whoever doesn’t like what fighters get paid can start their own MMA promotion.

“If you don’t like the way that it’s run here, there’s no barrier to entry, set up your own MMA business, and you pay the guys whatever you think you want to,” White said.

Dana White has criticized boxing’s pay model in the past

This isn’t the first time that Dana White has taken shots at the pay model in boxing.

Back in 2022, White said fighters always want to make more money, so he isn’t concerned about the criticism over fighter pay. He also blasted boxing and said the sport got ruined by how much money the fighters were making.

“Fighters always want to make more money,” White said to GQ (via BleacherReport). “Boxing has absolutely been destroyed because of money and all the things that go on. It’s never gonna happen while I’m here. Believe me, these guys get paid what they’re supposed to get paid. They eat what they kill. They get a percentage of the pay-per-view buys and the money is spread out amongst all the fighters.

“If you don’t like it, there’s a simple solution to this problem: Go start your own MMA organization. No barrier to entry. Knock yourself out. Pay ’em whatever you want to pay ’em. It’s been done before. How’s it worked out for other guys? Not well. Mind your business,” White added.

As long as White remains in charge of UFC, it seems unlikely that fighter pay will increase all that much.

Dana White believes Tom Aspinall should be next for Jon Jones after Miocic: 'That fight just has to happen'

Dana White believes Tom Aspinall should be next for Jon Jones after the Stipe Miocic fight.

If you ask a majority of UFC fights, few of them are likely to show interest in the impending clash between Jones and Miocic. Many of them would much rather see Jones, the undisputed heavyweight world champion, unify his title with Aspinall’s interim belt. Unfortunately, that’s just not the world we live in.

After lobbying hard for a fight with Jones, Aspinall has seemingly moved on, opting to become the first fighter to defend an interim belt in more than a decade when he steps inside the Octagon with Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 in Manchester.

Meanwhile, Jones has still not locked down a rescheduled date for his clash with the two-time titleholder, but all signs seemingly point toward a November setting at Madison Square Garden.

Should ‘Bones’ bag a win over the consensus heavyweight GOAT, one would assume a title unification contest would be a top priority, but that doesn’t appear to interest Jones at all. Instead, the former light heavyweight champ has been gauging interest in a superfight with Alex Pereira on social media, continuing to outright disrespect Aspinall’s status.

During a recent appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast with Shannon Sharpe, UFC CEO Dana White was asked about a potential showdown between Jones and Pereira. White made it clear that the Miocic fight “has to happen” first, but he believes Aspinall should be next on Jones’ itinerary, not ‘Poatan.’

“First of all, he has to fight Stipe,” White said. “That fight just has to happen. The next fight should be Aspinall. If Jon Jones beats Stipe, then Aspinall… He’s gonna come out and fight Stipe and the fact that he could fight Aspinall, it’s unbelievable. He will truly not be appreciated until he’s gone.”

Dana White predicts Jon jones vs. Alex Pereira

White did however offer a bit of a prediction should ‘Bones’ ever find himself standing across from Pereira inside the Octagon.

“Pereira is amazing, but I think Jon Jones walks through everybody,” White added.

While Jon Jones continues to heal up from a pectoral tear he suffered in October, Aspinall and Pereira both prepare to put their titles on the line. Stepping in on just 16 days’ notice, ‘Poatan’ will put his light heavyweight title on the line in a championship rematch against Jiri Prochazka at UFC 303 on June 29.

A month later, Aspinall will look to avenge his lone loss inside the Octagon with he squares off with ‘Razor’ in his home country.

Dana White again claims Francis Ngannou rejected fight with Jon Jones we did everything in our power

UFC CEO, Dana White has again echoed prior claims that former undisputed heavyweight champion and promotional alum, Francis Ngannou turned down the chance to fight current divison titleholder, Jon Jones during their time with the organization – despite their apparent best efforts.

Ngannou, a former undisputed heavyweight gold holder, made his second outing in professional boxing earlier this year in Saudi Arabia – suffering a stunning second round KO loss to former two-time world champion, Anthony Joshua.

Making a professional boxing debut last year in Riyadh, former UFC star, Ngannou forced former WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury the distance in his boxing debut, dropping a controversial split decision loss.

Departing the White-led organization in January of last year amid a contract dispute, Batié native, Ngannou has since signed to fight with the PFL (Professional Fighters League) – and has been tipped to make his debut in a clash against Brazilian contender, Renan Ferreira.

Dana White talks failed Francis Ngannou – Jon Jones fight

Sharing his latest thoughts on Ngannou’s failed fight with Rochester native, Jones – amid continued links to an eventual showdown, UFC boss, White claimed the Cameroon knockout star simply had no interest in fighting the former pound-for-pound number one.

“We [the UFC] did everything we in our power to try and make that Jon Jones fight [with Francis Ngannou],” Dana White said during an interview with Shannon Sharpe. “And it is what it is.”

“Not only is Jon Jones not afraid of Francis, Jon Jones is the baddest fighter to ever live, in any combat sport,” White continued. “If you look at – Jon Jones is undefeated in the UFC – he’s got one loss on his record. He lost to Steve Mazzagatti. Do you know who that is? He’s the worst referee to ever f*cking ref any fight. [Jones] never lost, and he went through murderer’s row.”

Do you think Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones would ever fight in the future?

UFC commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan compared former UFC fighter Igor Severino to an animal.

Severino has one fight in the UFC and in the second round, he got disqualified for biting Andre Lima. It was something that was very rare to see. After the fight, Lima got a tattoo of the bite mark and Dana White gave him a $50k bonus for being bit.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience with Action Bronson, Rogan explained the incident and compared Severino to an animal.

“A dude recently bit a dude in the UFC and so the dude got a tattoo of the guy’s bit on his arm, which is hilarious,” Rogan said (via BloodyElbow). “Well, they disqualified the guy he was fighting, and he got the win bonus. I think the dude was trying to take him down, and he couldn’t take him down, and he bit his arm from behind, which is like f***ing so animal! That’s so crazy that people get to that state where they’re aaah f***ing just f***ing like [immitates biting].”

Action Bronson, meanwhile, was concerned about the bite and how deep it was after seeing the photo. But, luckily, Lima was alright.

Dana White Released Igor Severino From UFC

Following the event, and Igor Severino biting Andre Lima in his UFC debut, Dana White immediately released him from the promotion.

“Those were two up-and-coming undefeated fighters,” White said to KevinIole.com. “If you get frustrated and want out of the fight, there are plenty of ways to do it, but the worst thing you can do is bite your opponent. Now, you get cut and lose the biggest opportunity of your life. Not to mention, he’s going to have real problems with the NSAC.”

Severino has had his entire purse taken from the NSAC and will likely be suspended.

The Brazilian is 8-1 as a pro and has not fought since he was DQ’d for biting Andre Lima back in March.

And the Oscar goes to… The Rock?!

Dana White, the CEO of Ultimate Fighting Championship, believes we could all hear that phrase once fans and critics get a glimpse of The Smashing Machine, a film based on the like of MMA legend Mark Kerr.

Dwayne Johnson, best known by the WWE Universe as The Rock, will portray Kerr in the biopic appropriately named after the two-time UFC heavyweight tournament winner’s moniker. Though the film is not scheduled for release until sometime in 2025, the hype train is already full steam ahead courtesy of a few promotional pics showing Johnson’s incredible transformation into the embattled MMA icon.

The Rock

“I don’t know if you saw it, but he was showing on his Instagram the other day that he messed up his elbow,” White told Collider. “The Rock will kill this. He will nail this role. I know how serious he’s taking this, I know who’s working with him, and I know how hard he’s working on this film. I think that this could be the opportunity for The Rock to actually be nominated for an Oscar.”
