Dana White Jon Jones Tom Aspinall

Dana White isn’t interested in seeing Jon Jones face Alex Pereira and is all in favor of giving Tom Aspinall a chance to unify the UFC’s heavyweight titles.

This sentiment from the UFC president comes after witnessing Jones’s brutal work at UFC 309. Jones battered Stipe Miocic for three rounds before ending things with a perfectly placed spinning back-kick and ensuing punches.

Jones also showed no signs of ring rust despite the extended time off. He last saw action in 2023 at UFC 285, finishing Ciryl Gane via submission early into the first round to win the UFC heavyweight title. Now, after his latest victory this past Saturday night, he’s on top of the world and seems eager to return to the cage.

Jon Jones and Dana white speak on the Tom Aspinall fight

After the fights at UFC 309, Dana White had the chance to address the Jon Jones situation and speak about what Jones wanted in contrast to what White himself wanted to see happen.

See, Jon Jones prefers a mega-fight against Brazilian superstar Alex Pereira. However, Tom Aspinall currently holds the interim UFC heavyweight championship and has been actively defending it. If fights were awarded based on merit, it would be a no-brainer for Aspinall to face Jones next. Sadly, that’s not the world we live in, as Jones doesn’t want to fight Aspinall because he’s an “as*hole”.

“There’s a part of me that does [want to compete with him], but if I’m being completely honest, I feel like Tom’s been such an a**hole that I don’t want to do business with him,” Jon Jones said prior to his fight with Miocic (H/T Daily Mail UK). “His fans have been so annoying.”

“Obviously, you don’t get this far getting affected by fans and whatnot, but he’s just an a**hole. He’s 30, so he’s from this influencer generation where you hop online, t-shirt sales, and all that. I’m past that type of stuff. If you had a little bit more respect, maybe we could’ve worked something out.”

“This is a business, and fighting me gives him an opportunity to change his life forever. I don’t even want to give him the opportunity. He just played his cards wrong with me.”

“I’m three years away from being a 40-year-old, grown man. The press conference, going through the whole shebang with him, I’d just rather not do.”

Dana White chimes in and hypes up the Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall Fight

The UFC president, Dana White, is no longer interested in seeing an Alex Pereira vs. Jon Jones fight now, so ‘Bones’ might be all out of options if he wants to continue his UFC career. After the fights, White had this to say about the matchup:

“It will be [the biggest heavyweight fight of all time]. ”He [Jon Jones] will be [well compensated]. You know what tonight told me? There’s no f***ing way I’d make the [Alex] Pereira fight. Jon’s too big. Great wrestler.”

“I like Alex Pereira, I like him personally,” Dana White continued. “But it just doesn’t make sense to make that fight.”

Jon Jones, however, had more to say on the matter: “One of the really good things about negotiating is being willing to walk away from a deal, and that’s the deal that I want. If that’s not what the fans want, I guess I’ll say sayonara.”

“I’ve learned over the years not to really get into finances publicly.” Jones continued. “But I want to be compensated to the matter where if I won or lost then it really wouldn’t matter.”

Do you think Jon Jones will fight Tom Aspinall, or does Dana White and the UFC fail to get the deal done?

Alex Pereira vs. Magomed Ankalaev - Light Heavyweight Showdown Looms Ankalaev Claims Dana White Said

Alex Pereira’s next fight is all lined up, and no, it’s not against Jon Jones.

Poatan’ successfully defended his light heavyweight title three times in 2024, scoring a trio of highlight-reel knockouts against Jamahal Hill, Jiri Prochazka, and Khalil Rountree. Recent rumors suggested that the UFC was courting Pereira to save another event after its welterweight headliner at UFC 310 on December 7 fell through.

Alex Pereira

Unfortunately, it sounds like the ‘Brazilian Boogeyman’ won’t be closing out the promotion’s pay-per-view scheduled next month, but we do know who he’ll face when 2025 rolls around.

According to top-ranked contender Magomedov Ankalaev, UFC CEO Dana White has confirmed that he will be next in line for a shot at Pereira’s 205-pound title.

Alex Pereira

“@danawhite told my team I’m next for Alex,” Ankalaev wrote on X. “Thank you for clearing this today.”

Dana White shoots down jon jones’ demands for a fight with Alex pereira

Pereira vs. Ankalaev has been rumored for some time and, by all accounts, is the fight to make at the top of the light heavyweight division. Especially after Ankalaev’s 11th straight win against Aleksandar Raki? in Abu Dhabi. However, there was some doubt about their pairing, particularly after undisputed heavyweight king Jon ‘Bones’ Jones began lobbying hard for a BMF bout with Pereira.

Alex Pereira is the only fight, right now, that makes sense to my legacy,” Jones said during Wednesday’s UFC 309 media day. “At the end of the day, Pereira is worth risking it for me. He [Aspinall] just doesn’t have the titles. He can have the high finishing rate, but he doesn’t have titles. It only makes sense to fight someone on your level.”

Unfortunately for Jones, Dana White isn’t interested in making that fight happen. During an appearance on The Jim Rome Show, the UFC CEO shot down any possibility of a bout between ‘Bones’ and Pereira, adding that if Jones wants to fight beyond Saturday’s card in NYC, there’s only one open road to take.

“Jon will do what he does on Saturday,” White said. “If he wins, he’ll disappear for a while and the competitive spirit will start bubbling up again, and then money will talk. If he doesn’t decide to retire, he absolutely, positively fights Aspinall. He’s not fighting Pereira.

“[Pereira] was a middleweight who moved up to light heavyweight. He’s also a kickboxer who has done very, very well in MMA. His wrestling isn’t even near the level of Jon Jones, and Jon Jones is way bigger than him. If Jon Jones wants to fight again after Saturday night, he will fight Tom Aspinall.”

Daniel Cormier Reveals Dana White Sent $1 Million Bonus After First Loss to Jon Jones

After only making $80,000 for his first fight with Jon Jones, UFC CEO Dana White sent Daniel Cormier a $1 million bonus check.

Jones vs. Cormier is undoubtedly one of the fiercest rivalries in MMA history. Squaring off against one another on two separate occasions, the animosity between the consensus GOAT and the former two-division titleholder remains as strong as ever.

Daniel Cormier

Looking back on their first-ever meeting at UFC 182 in January 2015, ‘DC’ revealed that he’d only made a paltry $80,000 to show. That matched with sponsorship money earned him roughly 150k for one of the biggest events of the year. According to Tapology, Jones vs. Cormier brought in 800,000 buys at $59.99. That translates to roughly $48 million even before you factor the gate and what the promotion took in via sponsorship deals of their own.

Understandably, Cormier was frustrated with the payday after all the work he’d put in and the amount of money the UFC raked it. Luckily, White was quick to make it right with ‘DC’ and sent the Hall of Famer a million dollar check the very next day.

“Back in 2015, I fought Jon Jones for the first time,” Cormier said on The Pivot. “I was making $80,000 to show up and $80,000 to win. I lost. All that, and I made $80,000. And I made like $80,000 on sponsorships on that night. I was like, ‘Man, for all that, I’m gonna make $150,000, it’s crazy.’

“Dana White calls me two days later, ‘Y’all killed it. The numbers were out of this world; we’re going to send you $1 million. Dude sent me a check for $1 million the next day” (h/t Bloody Elbow).

Daniel Cormier insists fighters are often taken care of behind the scenes

UFC fighter pay has been under scrutiny for years as the organization typically shares 15-20% of its total revenue with fighters — an especially low amount when compared to other professional sports organizations like the NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL who regularly hover around a 50% revenue share.

However, Cormier stressed that fighters often receive bonuses behind the scenes that are not disclosed to the public.

“And then, it was Lorenzo Fertitta at the time; he was the owner. Lorenzo liked his champions making $1 million. So, even if your fight purse was $350,000, and you sold another $300,000 in pay-per-views, he’d send you another $400,000 to make sure you made $1 million every time you got in there.”

“So, they try to protect the athlete a little bit by not showing exactly what you make. A lot of it is hidden. And you also make money on the pay-per-view side. So, if you become a guy like Conor McGregor, like Jones, like Israel Adesanya — you start selling pay-per-views, man, you get $2 a buy, $3 a buy, $4 a buy. Then that money really starts to go.”

Dana White’s Boxing Dream Faces Financial Hurdles, Says Endeavor’s Mark Shapiro

Dana White may be ready to finally jump headfirst into the world of professional boxing, but his business daddy feels it necessary to pump the brakes until the right opportunity comes along.

After years of teasing his entry into yet another combat sport, White announced that he was finally ready to pull the trigger during a Q&A session before Callum Walsh’s boxing match against Przemyslaw Runowski in Dulin.

Dana White

“If you know anything about me and you go back and look at anything that I’ve ever said, I never say anything that I don’t do — ever,” White said. “I’ve never said (something I don’t do), and we’ve been kicking the whole boxing thing around for a long time. You’ve never heard me commit and say, ‘I’m in.’ I’m in.”

White’s comments earned widespread praise from people within the industry, including legendary pugilist ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson and Matchroom Sports promoter Eddie Hearn.

Dana White

However, White’s boxing dreams may not come true for quite some time according to Mark Shapiro — the President of Endeavor and Chief Operating Officer of the UFC’s parent company, TKO Group Holdings.

“First of all, some off the cuff comments from Dana White do not translate into a strategy that we’re communicating to the street,” Shapiro said during a quarterly earnings call on Wednesday. “Dana says a lot of things and has a lot of passions and that’s why we love him. He’s also the best promoter the sport of MMA and frankly if it was boxing has or will ever see.

“What I can tell you is boxing at its best is confused and fragmented. At its worst, it’s broken. We think the sport presents an interesting growth opportunity for us. Dana White, and I should mention [WWE president] Nick Khan, have deep expertise and longstanding relationships in what they call the sweet science, otherwise known as boxing. If we were to get involved in boxing, we would expect to do so in an organic way, not [mergers and acquisitions] way. So i.e. we’re not writing a check. If we launched the vertical at any time, we kind of see it as doing it with a partner that would fund it and pay us to operate” (h/t MMA Fighting).

TKO Group in no rush to leap into the boxing ring with Dana White

Perhaps their stance will change in the future, but for now, it sounds like TKO Group is willing to play the wait-and-see game with boxing. Until then, the company will continue to focus on its MMA and sports entertainment endeavors with the UFC and World Wrestling Entertainment.

“Nothing to announce today but this is one area we’re going to continue to explore,” Shapiro said. “We’ve talked about a dearth of leagues that are out there. Obviously, we’re acquiring [Professional Bull Riders], there’s not much else. We don’t necessarily need to add anything to our model but boxing is ripe for a fix.

“We’re blessed to have two experts in the field and if an opportunity presents itself or we can chase one down that does not put much risk or any risk for that matter on us financially, then we’re going to pursue it. In terms of models and leagues and how we’d structure it, etc, etc, that’s way down the road. Once we have something — if we have something — you’ll be the first to know.”
