It seems we never really got the best Robert Whittaker in recent years.

Whittaker last competed at UFC 243 in October when he suffered a second-round knockout defeat to Israel Adesanya to lose his middleweight title. Many observers pointed to how Whittaker had an uncharacteristic performance at the time.

“The Reaper” was set to return in March this year against Jared Cannonier but pulled out as he later cited how he felt burned out and needed a mental break.

His 2017 and 2018 wars with Yoel Romero may have played a role as well. In fact, Whittaker claims he hasn’t even fought like himself since his first meeting with the Cuban when they clashed for the interim middleweight title.

“Like, probably Romero one,” Whittaker told Submission Radio when asked when he last fought like himself. “Romero two a little bit, but I was kind of getting a little bit stiff and pent up. And certainly not in the last fight. It is what it is.”

Whittaker Looking To Have Fun Against Till

The break seems to have done Whittaker well as he is happy and confident going into his July 25 headliner with Darren Till on Fight Island.

It’s even more so the case without the pressure of fighting for the title in front of an expectant home crowd this time.

“I’m just going to go in there to have fun with it, to be honest,” he said. “It’s one of those things where the pressure has been on so heavily and everything’s just been ramping up and ramping up and ramping up, I just want to take a step back, take all the skillsets I’ve been working on, and go in there and just be relaxed and let them out. I want to go out there and just have fun with it. I want to be creative with it, I just want to fight like me. I just want to enjoy the ride. I want to enjoy the experience.

“I’m looking forward for a change. To fight in a different country, no crowd, just a ranking fight. It’s going to be fresh. I feel the theme for this fight is fresh.”

How do you think Whittaker vs. Till will go?

Former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker says he is not friends with his July 25 opponent, Darren Till, or anyone else in the division. Whittaker is focused on “crushing” the Englishman on ‘Fight Island’ to re-establish himself as a serious player in the 185lb weight class.

Ahead of the fight, Whittaker spoke to Submission Radio about his jovial relationship with Till which has seen the pair having fun and exchanging jokes on social media, he said.

“Honestly it’s the same as it always will be. It’s cool how it’s a different approach but I’m not really thinking about whether Darren (Till) is a cool guy or not. Before the fight was lined up it was cool to just josh back and forth and then have a bit of a laugh at it, try make some interest for the fight. Once we knew we were fighting I don’t really care what type of person he is. It’s one of them things where all I’m focusing on now is just focusing on crushing him.”

As fight night creeps closer Whittaker wanted to be clear he is not friends with Till or anyone else at middleweight, he said.

“For one, let me just say. I have no friends in the middleweight division. I can’t be friends with anyone I could be fighting so lets just clear that one up. And two, mate, we’re in the fight game. It’s cool to be lined up with a guy who isn’t acting like a drunk. But, at the end of the day, he’s coming to take what’s mine and I’m coming to take what’s his and that’s the game we are in.”

“The thing is we are just cool. He’s doing his thing. I’m doing mine. You know we have a bit of fun but we are both respectful. Don’t get us wrong the weeks are getting closer and our sights are set on each other’s faces you know it’s wartime. I’m ready for the fight of my life and I’m going to bring the fight of his life.”

Will Robert Whittaker “crush” Darren Till on July 25?

‘Platinum’ Mike Perry says he is hoping to train with middleweight contender Yoel Romero ahead of a fight against “despicable” Darren Till who he refused to name. Till has been mocking Perry online for a while now and the welterweight is ready to move up in order to chase a fight with his rival.

Perry got back to winning ways in the UFC on ESPN 12 co-main event. The 28-year-old battered Mickey Gall for three rounds to claim a unanimous decision win. Post-fight he spoke to Brett Okamoto of ESPN. During the interview Perry revealed he is likely relocating to Miami in order to train with Romero ahead of his move to 185lbs to face Till, he said.

“I mean, she likes California but we like Florida too. South Florida has got a lot of good guys and I kinda want to work with Yoel Romero. I want to get some beef inside of myself to feel that 185lb weight class. I wanna learn how to fight one of the best guys there so I can fight a middleweight Englishman (Darren Till). You know who I’m talking about. I want to fight that guy. He doesn’t deserve to have his name come out of my mouth. He’s a despicable person. I can’t lie, I’m not that big – I need to feel that. I do want to train with Yoel Romero, he knows I want to come out there. We have the same management team him and Jorge Masvidal.

“I just want to get better so I can build for us and Platinum Martial Arts. I know I gotta look and out and find some more experience and it’s time for that now. We want to do that, we are probably coming to Miami bro to be honest with you. So, I look forward to training with Yoel.”

Do you think Mike Perry could beat Darren Till at middleweight?

Perry Till

Mike Perry and Darren Till’s beef is only intensifying.

The pair have been going back-and-forth in recent weeks with Till even going as far as making a MikePerryIsABum.com website.

That didn’t go down well with “Platinum” who predicts he would beat Till even with a size disadvantage if he moved up to middleweight to face the Liverpool native.

“He wants me to go up. He thinks if I go up to 185, he’ll have an easy day, but I’ll be too fast for his fat ass,” Perry told UFC veteran Mike Swick in a recent interview (via Bloody Elbow). “I’ll piece his ass up just like I did when we sparred. I hit him with six, seven, eight, punch combinations once I got inside of that reach.”

Perry: Till Wouldn’t Say Things To My Face

Perry, meanwhile, has blocked Till on social media and doesn’t care to give him too much attention until they can actually fight.

In fact, the reason he did it was in Till’s best interests as he started to raise his voice more and deliver a classic rant.

“I don’t even want to give that dude the time of day until we can make it happen. Everybody is like ‘oh why did you block him?’ or I’m ‘scared’ of him. No, the thing is, I’m scared of myself!” Perry said. “You want to play with me over the internet because you would never say these things to my face! Nobody would! Nobody could! Because I would f—king do something about it. I don’t care who you are! I don’t give a f—k! Nobody gonna play with me in my life like that.

“Social media is not real time! You want to f—king play, and I’m not going to forget about it. If I could see this motherf—ker in the street, I would do it for free! If we are ever in the same place, at the same time, I will go to f—king jail for beating the brakes off of him, if he wants to be a little p-ssy boy and press charges on me.”

Hopefully, we do get to see a Till vs. Perry fight inside the Octagon at some point in the future.

Darren Till Explains Why He Created A Mike Perry Website

Darren Till

Top Middleweight contender and Liverpool native Darren Till has been having lots of fun with welterweight Mike Perry, recently elaborating on his Mike Perry website that Till created.

Till spoke with Michael Bisping on his “Believe You Me” podcast saying, “This is fighting mate, and I don’t think there is a line,” Till explained “I think kids, yeah, that’s a line you don’t cross. OK. I think I’ve seen one fighter cross that line – I think it was Colby [Covington], I think he crossed the line – but same again, for me, it doesn’t cross the line for me.”

Its not the first time a fighter has said Covington has crossed trash talk line in the past. Till continued to poke fun at Perry, creating a website making fun of the welterweight. He recently had trashed Perry and his Girlfriend a few weeks ago. He went on to explain the idea of the website was to create a little beef to keep fans interested during the lockdowns for the Pandemic.

“We were chatting, me and Mike, and I don’t know if he’s being serious,” Till said. “We were chatting in the DMs and it was good fun, let’s have a bit of beef. I don’t if I took it too far, because I said I was going to ‘raw dog’ his girl, but he took it serious, and he blocked me. I was like, ‘What the f*ck?’ He blocked me on Facebook. Mike really blocked me. So I made another account.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Since this, many close to Till have told him to stop slandering Perry due to the risk of a fight breaking out next time they cross paths. “A lot of people said, ‘Knock it in the head, Darren. He’s unstable.’ So I did, but then I created this website, and it’s f*cking hilarious. … If he sees me, he might want to have a fight. You know where I come from. You know I’m about that life.”

Is Darren Till crossing the line with Mike Perry? Will these two ever square off in the Octagon?
