Despite recent claims, there is no official date for the highly-anticipated Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury boxing heavyweight title rematch as of yet.
Over the weekend, Fury revealed in a Q&A that his rematch with “The Bronze Bomber” was “confirmed and signed” for February 22, 2020. However, according to Top Rank Boxing promoter Bob Arum, that date is only one of many that is currently being considered. Of course, the fight could still happen on February 22, but nothing is confirmed right now contrary to Fury’s claims.
Regardless of the date, both fighters need to win their next fight if they plan on having a lucrative rematch. Fury most recently outclassed Tom Schwarz in two rounds last month and is set for another bout scheduled to take place in September or October.
Wilder, meanwhile, knocked out Dominic Breazeale in May, and is set to defend his WBC heavyweight title in a rematch against Luis Ortiz at around the same time.
Both fighters initially met each other in December at the Staples Center in one of the most entertaining fights of the year. While Fury outclassed Wilder for majority of the 12 rounds, the American was able to land two knockdowns. In the end, the contest was controversially deemed a split decision draw, as many felt the Briton was robbed.

The rematch is on. We now have official confirmation from both WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder and lineal champion Tyson Fury that they will rematch each other in early 2020.
Fury announced the news during a recent Q&A session, where he revealed that his rematch against “The Bronze Bomber” has been “confirmed and signed” for February 22, 2020. “The Gypsy King” also promised a more conclusive result the second time around. Check out the announcement here:
Fury and Wilder first met back in December with Wilder’s WBC heavyweight title on the line. Both men fought all 12 rounds, in which most boxing fans believe Fury out-classed the American. However, Wilder landed the only two knockdowns of the night. The latter being in round 12, and the argument could be made that the fight should’ve been stopped.
However, Fury got back to his feet and was able to finish the fight. When it was all said and done, the judges’ scorecards turned in a Majority Draw decision. Fans clamored for an immediate rematch, but unfortunately that was not to be the case. Since, both men have picked up respective knockout victories in the lead-up to their eventual rematch.
Wilder is expected to fight Luis Ortiz later this year before rematching Fury in 2020. Fury is also expected to face one more opponent before the highly-anticipated showdown, which Bob Arum believes could do numbers similar to Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos plans on calling out boxing WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder if he gets past Francis Ngannou this weekend.
Ngannou is a man who believes he himself could have a career in the boxing ring. “The Predator” possesses some of the most fierce punching power in combat sports today. “Cigano” has a tall order against the Frenchman this weekend in the main event of UFC Minneapolis Saturday night (June 29, 2019) from the Target Center.
Speaking to MMA Fighting, however, dos Santos claims that if he bests Ngannou this weekend, he wants to call out Wilder:
“Back when I was the champion in 2012, I challenged Wladimir Klitschko, he was the champion at that time, and I said I would beat Wladimir Klitschko in a boxing match but of course I’m not a good promoter like Conor McGregor and he got the fight against [Floyd] Mayweather,” dos Santos said.
“Klitschko actually replied to me, he said anytime, anywhere, something like that. But then I lost my belt, I lost the fight to Velasquez and I lost the belt so it didn’t make much sense anymore to promote that fight.
“Now my biggest goal is to go back, fight for the title in the UFC, take the belt back and then start promoting a fight against one of the boxing champions.”
Wilder is currently awaiting an official date and venue for his planned fight with Luis Ortiz. If he can maintain his undefeated record and get past the heavy-hitting Cuban, he’ll meet Tyson Fury in early 2020.
It’s hard to believe Wilder would put those plans on ice to meet dos Santos in the ring. However, dos Santos is confident the fight can happen given Wilder is reluctant to turn down any challenger:
“I think and I already have this idea in my mind who it could be. It could be Deontay Wilder because everything I see about Deontay, he’s a great champion, he knocks everybody out and he doesn’t run away from a good match,” dos Santos said. “He accepts all the matches. Some of the guys pick fights but this guy is not picking fights.
“He’s fighting everybody. So I think if we have a good match and we are able to make people want to see that fight and there’s a chance it could happen. I’ve been watching him for a long time. I actually admire him. His boxing skills are different but I think that’s the perfect match for me.
“I can see many, many holes in his game. Can you imagine I’m not worrying about no takedowns, no kicks, no jiu-jitsu, only boxing. That would be paradise for me.”

Boxing fans might not have to wait too long to see Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder rematch after all.
Wilder recently claimed that the pair had agreed to terms on an early 2020 rematch. However, speaking to NBC Sports recently, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum noted that Tyson Fury might go ahead and face “The Bronze Bomber” next. Initially, the plan was for Fury to have at least one or two more fights in October or September before fighting Wilder in early 2020 (via Daily Mail UK):
“I think we really have to look at the situation. It will be up to ESPN and FOX. Maybe we go right to the fight now,” Arum said. “I felt I needed two fights with Tyson Fury in order to really have the public take a look at him and realize what a phenomenal athlete and entertainer he is.
“But because ESPN did such a magnificent job in helping us promote this last fight with Schwarz, maybe we can go right now into a Wilder fight but that would depend again on how the other side feels about it.
“Maybe I think we should we be talking about it, stop fooling around with interim fights. We saw with the Joshua vs Ruiz fight that anything can happen.”
Fury comes off a big TKO victory over the now formerly-undefeated German prospect Tom Schwarz. “The Gypsy King” put the German away in the second round with a nasty barrage of shots. Now, he’s ready to reclaim heavyweight gold, and has Wilder’s WBC title in his sights first.
However, Wilder must first get through Luis Ortiz, a former foe who came the closest to becoming the first man to ever finish the American knockout artist inside the ring. Wilder will defend his title against Ortiz in a bout that has yet to receive a date or location.
