Newly reinstated UFC fighter Jon Jones is considering ‘big fights’ inside the boxing ring.

Who really thought Conor McGregor was going to box Floyd Mayweather last year? No one thought the Irishman had a chance in hell at luring Floyd out of retirement. And not many gave McGregor a chance at beating him.

Grant it, Conor didn’t shock the world on that night, but he did do something previously thought off limits. He successfully co-promoted a fight between MMA’s biggest star (himself) and the best boxer in the modern era (Mayweather).

So when “Bones” Jones says he wants to fight the best the Sweet Science has to offer, its really not that far fetched.

“Right now my mindset is more about making money, even those big fights,” Jones told RT Sports. “You know, I watched Conor McGregor fight Floyd Mayweather, and it was high risk, high reward. There’s a saying, ‘scared money don’t make money’. I gotta be brave when I get back in the game and start challenging guys that I could possibly lose to because that’s what people want to see.”

Whatever combat sport Jones decides to pursue it would seem he has his heart set on fighting at heavyweight. Both Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder are big men. Jones has also been rumored in a potential Brock Lesnar superfight.

“They want to see Jones versus Velasquez, they want to see Jones versus Ngannou, that’s what people want to see, and that’s where my mindset is,” Jones said. “Jones versus Anthony Joshua, or Deontay Wilder, you know, that’s what people want to see.”

While the boxing experiment worked out well for McGregor, its unlikely Jones will follow suit. With a number of intriguing heavyweight match-ups for “Bones” in the UFC, there’s just not a need for Jones to take up an entirely new sport at 31 years old.

Zuffa Boxing is always a possibility.

If Jones can pass his drug tests.

Anthony Joshua is still the undisputed heavyweight king of the boxing world.

The Englishman was able to retain his WBA (Super), IBF, WBO (Super), and IBO heavyweight titles against Alexander Povetkin. Joshua knocked out Povetkin in the 7th round of their bout from the Wembley Stadium in London, England.

The victory marked the 22nd consecutive win of Joshua’s career. He has won all but one of those fights via knockout. Check out Joshua’s finish of Povetkin here:

Joshua is the “money fight” in the heavyweight division of boxing. Fellow top-ranked heavyweight stars such as Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury have been trying to land a fight with the Englishman for quite some time. Unfortunately, a deal has never been able to come to fruition.

Wilder and Fury will instead fight one another in December. The winner is expected to be Joshua’s next opponent, likely in April from Wembley Stadium. There’s an April 13th date available from the venue that Joshua would like to make his return at for a big fight.

Whether it’s against Wilder or Fury, Joshua and Wembley Stadium will certainly do big business with each other when the time comes.

Boxing reportedly has its heavyweight super fight:

One of boxing’s biggest possible fights is apparently close to happening.

According to a report that arose from ESPN Senior Writer Dan Rafael today (Mon., June 11, 2018), WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has agreed to terms offered to him by IBF, WBA, WBO, and IBO champion Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn:

“Deontay Wilder has accepted the terms offered to him by Anthony Joshua promoter Eddie Hearn for them to meet in the United Kingdom for the undisputed heavyweight championship this fall, Shelly Finkel, Wilder’s co-manager, told ESPN on Monday night.

“We have agreed to the terms that Eddie has put out to us for a fight in the U.K.. Deontay has accepted his terms to fight in the U.K. Deontay sent an email to Joshua (Sunday) night and I sent one today to Barry Hearn and Eddie telling them that we officially accept the offer to fight under the terms they gave us and to send us the contract,” Finkel said. Finkel said that the offer is a two-fight deal with terms also agreed to for a rematch that would take place in the United States.”

Wilder has won an incredible 39 fights on his unblemished 40- record by knockout an has defended the WBC title seven times in a row since winning it three years ago.

Joshua has won all but one of his fights by knockout as well, bringing a 21-0 record into the awaited megafight after first gaining widespread notoriety in his classic match with Vladimir Klitschko where he added the WBA and IBO belts to his impressive list of accolades.

Wilder’s manager Finkel recently said to World Boxing News that a supposed $50 million offer to fight in the United States was turned down by Joshua, and even though the offer was on the table, Wilder would now go to Britain and face their hometown champion:

“If for any reason Anthony changes his mind and wants to fight in the U.S, the $50m offer we have made to him is still there. It’s now in Joshua’s court.”

“They gave us an offer, we were hoping they’d accept the U.S offer instead because there’s so much money but instead since they haven’t we’ve decided that if you don’t want $50m then we’re willing to come the UK and take your offer.”

Both fighters fought in March, with Wilder defeating Luis Ortiz in a thrilling, come-from-behind fight where he was nearly finished, while Joshua scored a lackluster win on the scorecards over Joseph Parker.

So the heavyweight division appears to be getting its biggest fight. Who are you picking to win if it does happen?

The combat sports world was underwhelmed by this weekend’s (Sat., March 31, 2018) heavyweight title fight between Anthony Joshua and David Parker.

For the first time in Joshua’s professional boxing career, he failed to put his opponent away, and some sketchy refereeing led to a fairly dismal main event.

However, there was much more action on the undercard, with Alexander Povetkin scoring a vicious fifth-round knockout against David Price.

Check out the finest performance of the night as the boxing world continues to criticize Joshua’s lackluster effort:

And in slow motion:

Povetkin’s stunning KO kept his WBA Inter-Continental and WBO International heavyweight titles on his waist, and could potentially set up a fight with Joshua should the heavyweight champion opt out of a fight with American heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder.

Price was laid out for quite some time and required an oxygen mask following the brutal knockout loss.

What’s next for Joshua and Povektin? Will the two face off next, or will the boxing world finally see Joshua vs. Wilder?
