The combat sports world was underwhelmed by this weekend’s (Sat., March 31, 2018) heavyweight title fight between Anthony Joshua and David Parker.

For the first time in Joshua’s professional boxing career, he failed to put his opponent away, and some sketchy refereeing led to a fairly dismal main event.

However, there was much more action on the undercard, with Alexander Povetkin scoring a vicious fifth-round knockout against David Price.

Check out the finest performance of the night as the boxing world continues to criticize Joshua’s lackluster effort:

And in slow motion:

Povetkin’s stunning KO kept his WBA Inter-Continental and WBO International heavyweight titles on his waist, and could potentially set up a fight with Joshua should the heavyweight champion opt out of a fight with American heavyweight champ Deontay Wilder.

Price was laid out for quite some time and required an oxygen mask following the brutal knockout loss.

What’s next for Joshua and Povektin? Will the two face off next, or will the boxing world finally see Joshua vs. Wilder?

Heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua cemented his star status after knocking out Wladimir Klitschko last year, and now he’s become a hot commodity on the combat sports circuit in a more all-encompassing sense.

So much so that the UFC has reportedly offered Joshua $500 million contract to sign with ZUFFA Boxing, a subsidiary that was created amidst Mayweather vs. McGregor over the summer.

Joshua responded to the offer during a conference call with the press yesterday and said he was “all ears” in considering the UFC’s contract:

“If it’s good business, it makes sense. I’m not in the business and I’m sure Eddie (Hearn) isn’t in it to say, ‘Oh, Dana White, we’re not interested in working with you,’ when we don’t know what’s on the table. We’ll listen and a hundred percent, if it makes sense, we’re all ears, man. So I’m happy that Dana’s coming into the game. Hopefully, he can add some excitement, and we can progress forward and make some good money and make some good fights.”

Joshua is widely considered the best heavyweight in the world right now, and a high-profile super fight against WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder hangs in the balance should Joshua get through Joseph Parker on March 31.

UFC President Dana White actually began his career managing boxers and even sponsored Floyd Mayweather before buying the UFC with childhood pals the Fertitta brothers.

White’s love of boxing reared its head once again when he agreed to let his lightweight champion take on Mayweather in a boxing match that has apparently stoked the flames for White’s passion for boxing.

UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic has expressed his desire to fight Joshua in some way or another, and a deal between the UFC and the boxing champ could bring that idea closer to reality.

Do you see Joshua signing with the UFC? Is this attempt indicative of the UFC’s desire to expand into boxing?

The fight world was in for a treat this past weekend as it had two big sporting events, which were UFC 222 and the boxing showdown that aired on Showtime.

That fight, of course, is the huge boxing bout between the challenger, Luis Ortiz, and WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.

This big boxing bout went down on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. UFC 222 went down on the same night but at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The finish of this boxing bout saw both fighters rock each other in the tenth round and Wilder tossed him aside. Wilder rained down strikes that knocked Ortiz down then followed up with some more strikes to finish the fight.

On the flip side, the main event of UFC 222 saw Cris Cyborg successfully retain her title against newcomer Yana Kunitskaya by picking up a TKO win in the first round.

Now that the weekend is over, it’s time to look at the ratings. The prelims for UFC 222 pulled in 905,000 viewers on FOX Sports 1, which is up from the 697,000 average that UFC 221 did and exactly the same as UFC 2220 did in January.

Regarding Ortiz-Wilder, that show averaged 730,000 viewers and peaked in the main event with 1.2 million with the average of 1,055,000 viewers.

It should be noted that FOX Sports 1 is in more homes than Showtime, which has a smaller subscription base than HBO

Here are the average viewership numbers for UFC PPV preliminary cards over the last year:

UFC 208 – 874,000

UFC 209 – 1,033,000

UFC 210 – 723,000

UFC 211 – 1,148,000

UFC 212 – 732,000

UFC 213 – 657,000

UFC 214 – 886,000

UFC 215 – 418,000

UFC 216 – 653,000

UFC 217 – 1,276,000

UFC 218 – 694,000

UFC 219 – 914,000

UFC 220 – 905,000

UFC 221 – 697,000

Meanwhile, In Boxing: Internet Troll Gets Flattened By Heavyweight Champ, Learns Nothing [VIDEO]

If you’ve been visiting CagePotato for over a week, chances are that you’ve been subject to a fair share of trolling, whether in the comments sections of our articles or the articles themselves. Hopefully, you’ve been able to laugh it off for the most part, or at the very least, release your pent-up rage via a cathartic rant before the comments sections closed due to our ongoing technical issues.

But our differences aside, I think we can all agree that internet trolls are just the *worst* kinds of people (next to reality show stars, douche-bros, and members of the paparazzi, of course). So let’s all watch this video of internet troll and hilariously overconfident fighter Charlie Zelenoff getting his ass kicked by WBC Continental Americas Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder and do our best Nelson impressions, shall we?

You see, Zelenoff has allegedly been trolling Wilder with racist remarks and text messages for close to three years now, but it wasn’t until he threatened to murder Wilder and “tape [his] daughter’s mouth” that the champ decided to take action. And by “take action,” we mean slap Zelenoff around like a child while reminding him of every nasty thing he ever said over the years.

I know what you’re thinking, “After getting absolutely clowned like the bitch that he is, Zelenoff probably apologized to Wilder and hugged it out, right?” HAHAHAHA, this is 2014, you idiot. Even in defeat, Zelenoff continued to hype himself as “the best” while claiming that Wilder “got lucky” and would surely lose their rematch before running out the door with his tail between his legs. U-S-A! U-S-A!!

Today’s lesson: The only thing more powerful than revenge is denial. Amen.
