The Conor McGregor show is officially up and running again. News broke late Monday night that McGregor would indeed be fighting at UFC 205, but not as a featherweight. Eddie Alvarez will make his first lightweight title defense against ‘The Notorious’ on November 12, as the UFC debuts in New York City. The Masdison Square Garden is set to play host to a thus far spectacular pay-per-view card. Also confirmed yesterday were Chris Weidman vs. Yoel Romero, and Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Michael Johnson.

Following this string of wild announcements came some news of a very different kind. Former undisputed champion and current interim featherweight boss Jose Aldo asked for his release by from the UFC. Clearly frustrated that McGregor would be fighting for a third time outside his weight division, thus leaving the division cold again, ‘Scarface’ said he was done with the ‘circus.’ Another fighter who appears to be getting fed up with the UFC’s alleged special treatment of McGregor is Nate Diaz.

Nate Diaz

Diaz Blasts Everyone

After submitting Conor McGregor in a wild brawl at UFC 196, Nate Diaz agreed to an immediate rematch. Just weeks after the event the two bitter rivals were set to do it all again. This time around, at UFC 202, the Irishman claimed a close decision win over Diaz. Unfortunately for Nate, his request for a do-over was shut down by the UFC. McGregor was matched with Alvarez, and so we find ourselves in the midst of a super fight in the Big Apple.

Although it’s undeniably great for the promotion’s first show in New York, what about the bigger picture? Are the UFC alienating their entire roster, or will the rest of the fighters turn full heel to bring in the eyeballs? Diaz is not impressed. Speaking with MMAFighting.com, the Cesar Gracie black belt put McGregor and UFC president Dana White on blast:

Diaz 202

“Fuck them both (McGregor and Alvarez). You know both those little bitches are afraid to fight me. That’s why they are fighting each other.

“And tell Dana I said get off Conor’s nuts,” Diaz added. “I left my room to that fight at 176 (pounds), so when I fought I was probably 173. Quit telling people I was a monster to make him look good. I’ve been a lightweight my whole career.”

“Eddie said I was next after Gilbert, then I called him a bitch in the lobby and he turned the fight down repeatedly until I beat Conor,” Diaz said. “Then he called every day asking for the fight. Bitch. What kinda fighters are these guys?”

UFC 202 proved to be one of the greatest cards ever, let alone in 2016. The enjoyment levels of the Las Vegas card got off to a great start with some thoroughly exciting prelims, before the main card delivered in spades. Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz faced off for the second time in the main event, and were nicely backed up by straight finishes on the undercard. Perhaps most notable before the main event was Anthony Johnson’s tooth-removing 13-second KO of Glover Teixeira.

The main attraction rolled in to town, and it was a thriller of epic proportions. We knew the bitter rivals at the top of the card would throw down hard, but most predicted the fight would end in the early or middle rounds. The Irishman and the Stockton bad boy had other ideas, making good use of the championship rounds. By the time the full allotted 25 minutes was up, both men wore the fight.

Respect Between Warriors

After the fight was done we saw a beautiful show of respect between McGregor and Diaz. The fight was indeed close, but in the end it was the Irish star who got his vengeance on Diaz. The judges handed down a majority decision for the featherweight champion. After their narrow war, Diaz didn’t waste time in making his opinion on the outcome known.

The post-fight media scrums were highlighted by Diaz vaping some CBD oil and also claiming he won. The Stockton native says he scored the fight four rounds to one in his own favor. Now three days removed from the event, Diaz is still taking shots at McGregor’s decision win. Check out the social media shot fired from Nate Diaz’s official Twitter account:

Shots Fired!

UFC president Dana White sensationally shot down Diaz’s request for a trilogy fight. In doing so he also revealed that McGregor could fight Eddie Alvarez without having to vacate the 145-pound belt. The decision caused outrage among certain sects of fans, and most likely Diaz too. The lightweight champion Alvarez had already called out for the winner of McGregor vs. Diaz 2 some weeks ago.

It looks as though Jose Aldo might be the junior champ for a little longer than expected.

We’ve waited a long time for it, but now UFC 202 is just one day away. The main event rematch between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor has all the hype you’d expect and more, but don’t sleep on the rest of the card. Outside of the welterweight main attraction is a co-main event tilt between light-heavyweight title hopefuls Anthony Johnson and Glover Teixeira.

Both men will look to make a stamp in the second fiddle position and likely take a swipe and Daniel Cormier with a victory. In perhaps his last welterweight performance, Donald Cerrone will take on heavy-handed wrestler Rick Story. Korean ‘Ace’ Hyun Gyu Lim will battle Mike Perry also at 170, and a welterweight scrap between Tim Means and Sabah Homasi opens the main card.

There’s a lot on the line at UFC 202 on August 20. The rich back story behind the main event attraction has fans salivating with 11 days left to wait. Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor are currently dominating the headlines in the lead up to their second fight, as the Irishman sets out to avenge his first UFC loss. Diaz set the MMA world ablaze when he submitted McGregor at UFC 196, and will look to prove it was no fluke at UFC 202. As well as pride, there’s a lot of money in the balance for these two titans of modern mixed martial arts.

Super stardom is something ‘The Notorious’ has grown used to, but for the Stockton brawler Diaz it’s all quite new. There’s no doubt he’s been one of the most exciting and skilled lightweights on the UFC roster or a while, but he never really had the backing of the promotion until now.

Conor vs. Diaz

Now that he is in the limelight, Diaz has been making the most of it. One huge question that’s been raised over the recent weeks is regarding a potential third fight. Both Diaz and McGregor agreed that they would fight again should the Irishman get revenge at UFC 202. These comments probably won’t sit right with the interim featherweight champion Jose Aldo, but we all know the reasons why that fight would indeed happen.

Money talks, and in the UFC today it seems to be the only language in circulation. Speaking during the Jon Anik and Kenny Florian podcast, former lightweight and featherweight contender ‘Ken-Flo’ says there’s going to be much more money for Nate Diaz if he loses at UFC 202.

Kenny Florian

“Heading in to (UFC 202), I feel like Nate (Diaz) has nothing to lose. Because if he loses, can you imagine having a trilogy here? There’s more money in it for him if he loses.”

Ray Longo

“Here’s the problem man, if you’re telling me that there’s no money involved and they are just fighting, Nate Diaz wins. But there’s an obscene amount of money, and that part of it scares me a little bit.”

These guys are potentially scratching the surface of a very controversial subject here. Let’s be frank here, if anyone is going to do the exact opposite of what Florian and Longo are dancing around, it’s Nate Diaz. The anti-BS crusader of the UFC, in my personal opinion, would rather beat Conor McGregor 10 times for free than take a loss for any amount of money.

Thoughts?

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is deep in to his training camp for the big rematch with Nate Diaz at UFC 202. After suffering a second round submission loss to Diaz at UFC 196, a lot is on the line for ‘The Notorious.’ Although the fight took place at 170 pounds, meaning McGregor’s belt stayed intact, both pride and legitimacy hang in the balance. Two straight losses heading in to his first title defense would not be a good look.

While the Irish star stays at welterweight, the 145-pound division is kept warm by Jose Aldo. The former undisputed champ topped Frankie Edgar at UFC 200 for the interim strap. On August 20 we’ll not only see if McGregor can take back the somewhat humiliating March 5 loss to Diaz, but we could well see a further delay in featherweight proceedings. Used to breaking records on a regular basis during his three-year UFC stint, ‘The Notorious’ is also topping the table for random drug tests.

Conor McGregor..

Ever since USADA (United States Anti Doping Agency) joined forces with the UFC in mid-2015, we’ve seen mixed martial arts from a whole new perspective. We all knew the stricter drug testing program would usher in massive change, but few expected the frequency and high calibre of the scalps claimed thus far. We recently reported that Holly Holm topped the USADA list as most tested athlete in the past year, as the former champion hit 14 in total. Never one to be outdone, McGregor joins ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ in the top spot. Random testers caught up to the featherweight boss before his morning training session this week.

McGregor avidly supports USADA in his latest social media posts, thanking the agency for helping bring about a cleaner sport. On the subject of USADA, here’s the top ranked fighters in terms of drug tests administered over the past year.

Conor McGregor/Holly Holm tested 14 times.

Rafael dos Anjos tested 13 times.

Vitor Belfort/Jose Aldo/Anderson Silva tested 12 times.

Daniel Cormier/Luke Rockhold/Robbie Lawler/Yoel Romero/Ronda Rousey/Junior dos Santos/Miesha Tate/Thiago Alves tested 10 times.

Eddie Alvarez Calls For Winner Of Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor

UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez rose to the top of the pack with a stunning knockout against Rafael dos Anjos. UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez rose to the top of the pack with a stunning knockout against Rafael dos Anjos. The Brazilian grappler was beginning to build a powerful streak at 155 pounds, but ‘The Silent Assassin’ took care of business when they met at UFC Fight Night 90 and now he’s taken his second major title. After spending the best part of two years on the shelf during contractual disputes with Bellator where he was also the lightweight boss, Alvarez has come of age in the UFC.

But what’s next for the heavy hitting Philadelphia native? The mess at the top of the lightweight division provides no clear answers. Number one contender Khabib Nurmagomedov continues to cause a queue with his absence, Tony Ferguson found himself facing an unranked opponent last time out, and the rest of the division is either tied up or coming off losses. For Alvarez, it’s all about the big money fights now.

Eddie Alvarez

During an interview with Sirius XM Radio, as quoted by MMAFighting.com, Eddie Alvarez says he wants the winner of the Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor rematch at UFC 202, rankings be damned.

“Initially I want the winner of Conor-Nate. I would like a big pay-per-view, big money fight. I’m willing to wait for one of them guys. I almost got in a fight with Nate in Mexico City so maybe we can settle our differences, and if Conor happens to win I welcome that fight as well.

“The number one contender in my weight class has fought once in about the last three years or something. So I’m a little nervous about fighting a guy like that who barely shows up to fight. So Conor and Nate, they’re the guys on my radar, one of them I’d really like to get my hands on.”

Conor vs. Diaz

It certainly will be interesting to see what’s next for McGregor or Diaz. If ‘The Notorious’ wins will there be a trilogy match, or if Diaz wins does McGregor finally fight in the rematch with Jose Aldo? In terms of the lightweight rankings, Alvarez says they mean little to him in the search for his next fight:

“Rankings are subjective anyway. For someone to say, ‘This guy’s number one,’ who claims him to be number one and why is he number one? That’s a question we’ve got to ask ourselves. It’s subjective. So to say, ‘The guy is number one, he should get the title shot,’ it’s not necessarily so.

“Look at the case between Tony Ferguson and Khabib. Tony Ferguson is 8-0, he’s been active for the last God-knows-how-what, he’s been finishing opponents, been on a tear; Khabib’s fought once in three years and he’s number one and he decides he wants a title shot? The last guy he beat was virtually un-ranked – maybe top 100 in the world – and he’s the number one guy in the world. So who says that? Who makes that up? Who appoints him number one? That being said, make the fights that make sense. Make the fights the fans want to see. Who gives a shit about the rankings?”
