Tyson Fury Dillian Whyte

WBC heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury will make his next title defense against Dillian Whyte, and negotiations for the bout are underway.

This after the WBC officially ordered Fury to get back in the ring to defend his title against Whyte next. The two sides are in a mandatory 30-day negotiation period to agree to a bout, or purse bids will be called.

Fury was originally expected to face Oleksandar Usyk next, but Anthony Joshua put his rematch clause into action, and Usyk vs. Joshua 2 is in negotiations.

Whyte earned the interim heavyweight title over Alexander Povetkin earlier this year after Fury began negotiations for his trilogy with Wilder. The win over Povetkin was a rematch after Whyte fell to him by TKO last August.

Tyson Fury Is Coming Off His Deontay Wilder Trilogy Win

Fury went on to defeat Wilder in the trilogy on Oct. 9, dominating the fight and eventually earning a late KO finish. This was after months of fight cancelations and postponements due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Tyson had recently been busy helping to train his younger brother, Tommy get ready for a fight with Jake Paul, but Tommy pulled out of the fight due to injury. Paul will now face Tyron Woodley on Dec. 18 in a rematch.

For now, it appears that fan-favorite matchups with Usyk and Joshua are now on the back burner for Fury. It’s unclear when the Whyte fight will take place, but it’s expected to happen in the first quarter of 2022.

Francis Ngannou

UFC heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou went ‘berserk’ at British boxer Dillian Whyte in a virtual press conference that is yet to air according to promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing. The footage was filmed last week and due to for release on Saturday evening, however, Matchroom was forced to pull the footage from their schedule after a request from Team Ngannou and his team to do so.

“Unfortunately our planned Rivals episode with @DillianWhyte and Francis Ngannou will no longer be released as planned on Saturday due to a request from Team Ngannou. Stay tuned for more info and content!”

A few days later and Hearn has revealed the footage went unaired after it was discovered Team Ngannou hadn’t informed the UFC about the what they was doing.

“We did it and then the press release follows, ‘Eddie Hearn to stage press conference with Whyte and UFC star Ngannou,” Hearn said to IFL TV. “All of a sudden we got a phone call from Team Ngannou, ‘Oh, you can’t put it out, we didn’t tell the UFC about it. I said, ‘How can you not tell the UFC about it? Anyway we were due to [release] it the next day, and Dana messaged me with a screenshot of the press release and he said, ‘What’s this?’

“I said, ‘No, no, all it is is an interview.’ He said, ‘Our team didn’t know anything about that. I said, ‘I’m really sorry, I expected him to tell you, do you want me to pull it down?’

“He just said, ‘I’d rather do something all together.

“I didn’t wanna fall out with him and I don’t think their promotional team were overly pleased that they didn’t know anything about it. In hindsight, we probably should’ve told them about it, but I just expected Ngannou to do that.” (Transcribed by The Mac Life)

Hearn went on to say he still hopes to release the footage they shot as it shows Ngannou going ‘beserk’ after Whyte claimed he had been dropped while sparring with Olympic silver medallist Joe Joyce.

“I’ve still got the footage, we may even put it out with the UFC. It’s quite good, there’s one bit in there. Dillian Whyte was on a bit of a wind-up and told Ngannou that Joe Joyce dropped him in sparring, and that Sam Jones [Joyce’s manager] told him. And Ngannou went absolutely berserk, berserk. Said he’s going to phone Sam Jones now.”

Dillian Whyte Knows He Can Knock Out Any Top UFC Heavyweight, Criticizes Ngannou

Dillian Whyte has a long-term goal in mind — being the heavyweight champion in boxing and the UFC at the same time.

Whyte is currently the WBC interim heavyweight champion and was set to face Alexander Povetkin in May where a win could have earned him a shot at Tyson Fury’s WBC title next. However, that fight is currently postponed until July amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

But that’s not the only gold Whyte is targeting.

“The Body Snatcher” is also notably a former K1 champion and won his sole MMA bout in just 12 seconds back in 2008. And he has no problem entering the Octagon as he feels he would be able to knock out every top UFC heavyweight if the fights were on the feet.

“I have not trained in kickboxing or MMA for a while but, for me, it is like riding a bike,” Whyte wrote in a recent column. “Once I knock off some of the rust, my instincts come rushing back and I am ready to dominate again. The heavyweight guys over there, champion Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou, are elite and I would have to work on my grappling and wrestling.

“But I know, standing up and boxing in 4oz gloves, I could knock ANY of their top-ten heavyweights out. I would need time to get my MMA conditioning back because it is totally different to boxing where, if you are clever, you can take time in the three minute rounds. In these cages it is five-minute rounds of non-stop moving, kicking, punching, wrestling — it is no joke.

“But I have better hand skills than any of them and because they try to cover a lot of aspects, that leaves a lot of holes in their game. The guys at the top, like Miocic and Ngannou, come from boxing but weren’t good enough to make it as pro boxers — as they could have made more money — they would usually want to stand up. But as soon as they got in with me, they would want to take me down to wrestle.”

Speaking of Ngannou, Whyte had some harsh words for him. Having previously called “The Predator” a coward, the Briton explained why he felt that way.

“I have called Ngannou a coward because, for a guy who is 6ft 4in tall and 18st, he has not shown enough heart in his two defeats,” Whyte added. “He was on a ten-fight win streak, mostly first-round wins against journeymen, and as soon as he stepped up he lost twice, when people did not just stand there and let him hit them.

“You get these guys in boxing as well as MMA, when they are on top in a fight they are a problem, full of confidence and trying to bully you. But as soon as you stand up to them and hit them back, they shrink. Ngannou quit in his two most recent defeats because he did not like the way the fights were going. How can you only land 11 punches in 15 minutes as he did when losing to Derrick Lewis?

“Ngannou said he would fancy a boxing match but I notice he didn’t mention my name even after I publicly called him a coward. Says it all really. However, I like the sound of stepping over to the UFC, seeing what sort of deal could be done. Becoming heavyweight champion in both is something no one has ever come close to doing before.”

Dillian Whyte, Alexander Povetkin, Oleksandr Usyk, Dereck Chisora

Matchroom Boxing has announced they will be postponing all of their shows scheduled for May including two pay-per-view events.

The sports promotion run by Eddie Hearn broke the news today which will see Dillian Whyte vs Alexander Povetkin, Oleksandr Usyk vs. Dereck Chisora and Lee Selby vs. George Kambosos Jr all temporarily shelved.

See the full statement below.

“In line with the BBBofC (British Boxing Board of
Control) and Government guidelines relating to COVID-19, Matchroom Boxing have
postponed all events scheduled to be taking place in May, including Dillian
Whyte vs. Alexander Povetkin at the Manchester Arena on May 2, Lee Selby vs.
George Kambosos Jr at the Motorpoint Arena Cardiff on May 9 and Oleksandr Usyk
vs. Dereck Chisora at The O2 in London on May 23.

Subject to the developing situation, Whyte’s Interim WBC Heavyweight World Title clash with Povetkin has been rescheduled to Saturday July 4th, while Selby’s IBF Lightweight World Title Final Eliminator against Kambosos Jr has been rescheduled to Saturday July 11th. Tickets will be valid for these rescheduled dates or refunds will be available from your point of purchase.

A new date for Usyk’s blockbuster Heavyweight
showdown with Chisora is also being worked on, with tickets remaining valid for
the rescheduled date once announced and refunds available from you point of
purchase.”

It remains to be seen if the new dates will even be viable and these events could well be pushed back again. As of right now, Anthony Joshua’s mandatory title defence against Kubrat Pulev set to take place on June 20 at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is still going ahead as planned. However, you can only imagine a similar announcement will be made delaying that fight in the coming days or weeks.

Are you disappointed to see Dillian Whyte vs
Alexander Povetkin and Oleksandr Usyk vs Dereck Chisora postponed?

Dillian Whyte

British heavyweight boxer Dillian Whyte has called out UFC fighters Stipe
Miocic and Francis Ngannou.

The 31-year-old from London holds the WBC interim heavyweight title and has been the organisation’s number one contender for more than three years. He has been unable to secure his mandatory shot at former champion Deontay Wilder and will have to wait a little longer before getting a shot at new titleholder Tyson Fury.

‘Bodysnatcher’ holds high profile wins over the likes of Dereck Chisora, Oscar Rivas and, Joseph Parker. However, he is most known for fighting bitter rival Anthony Joshua in 2015. Despite losing the fight Whyte came out with credit due to the fact he wobbled the future world champion in the second round before ultimately being stopped himself five rounds later.

Whyte is currently scheduled to face Russian heavyweight Alexander Povetkin on May 2 in Manchester, England. Although the fight is yet to be officially postponed, it seems unlikely to go ahead due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

This is clearly something the Brit is aware of and he appears to have begun his search for some new opponents. In a video interview posted on his YouTube channel, Whyte – who has a kickboxing background – called out UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, he said.

“I’ll fight Stipe Miocic. I’ll kick him in the face. I’ll give Stipe one of these [elbows]. All I’ve gotta do with Stipe is just keep him moving. He’ll just try take me down, he might go to sleep before I go down though.”

“Yeah, I’ll
fight UFC. I’ll do one boxing fight, one UFC. One boxing fight, one MMA fight,
tell Dana White to hit me up.

Whyte then
proceeded to call out scary power puncher Ngannou, who he called a coward with
no chin, he said.

“I’ll fight
Francis Ngannou. I would lick him down. He ain’t go not chin, he’s a coward
bro. I would knock out Francis Ngannou, trust me. All he can do is try and take
me down, that’s it.

One boxing fight, one MMA fight. If you want MMA first, let’s go. Boxing first, let’s go. Even Muay Thai, fight me in kickboxing – three-fight deal, tell Dana White.” (Transcribed by TalkSport)

Dillian Whyte revealed former unified heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko knocked Deontay Wilder out cold during sparring back in the day.

Whyte was among many heavyweights who had traveled to Klitschko’s remote training base at the Stanglwirt resort in Austria. But what he witnessed was a grueling camp that saw Klitschko punish a number of contenders in preparation for his title defenses, including Sam Sexton.

“I was just trying to learn, and then I saw him knocking people out,” Whyte told Sky Sports. “I was thinking ‘you ain’t f**king knocking me out.’ I went in there and I went after him. … He broke Sexton’s nose. I said ‘nah. Woah, you’re not knocking me out. I’m coming.’

“I went in there and started roughing him up and having a proper fight with him. I got sent home for that.”

Wilder Knocked Out Cold

Whyte would eventually return while new faces joined such as current WBC heavyweight champion Wilder. “The Bronze Bomber” has established himself as the most devastating knockout artist in the sport today.

However, he was on the receiving end of a knockout while training with Klitschko. That is why he never had any plans on facing the Ukrainian when the latter was still active according to Whyte:

“I’ve seen him getting knocked out,” Whyte said of Wilder. “Wladimir knocked him out. He knew what happened. He had his hands up. He was roughing Wlad up, bringing the smoke, and he was going wild.

“Wlad backs up, changes his footwork, feinting, feinting, jabs to the body, throws that feint jab, left hook. Wilder had his hands up, he was gone. It wasn’t no knockdown, he was knocked cold. Properly twitching as well. That’s why they probably didn’t want him to fight Wlad, because Wlad was going to fight him as a pro and Wilder never fancied it the whole time.”

Fast forward to present day and Wilder is still WBC heavyweight champion. Anthony Joshua, meanwhile, holds the other heavyweight titles. Having suffered his only defeat to Joshua in 2015, Whyte still plans on becoming heavyweight champion in the future.

“You know what. I’m going to become a world champion, regardless anyway, whatever Klitschko thinks or believes it, I don’t care,” Whyte added.

“I have the mindset, I have the hunger, and I’m good enough. I still haven’t peaked yet, I’m still getting better.”
