Dominick Cruz explains how he’s taken inspiration from the late and great Muhammad Ali. Cruz is set to challenge Henry Cejudo for the UFC bantamweight championship on Saturday (May 9). While coming back from a long layoff isn’t new to Cruz, this time he’s coming off just his second pro MMA loss. “The Dominator” has […]

Former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw has labelled Dominick Curz a “one-trick pony” ahead of his UFC 249 title fight against Henry Cejudo.
The co-main event this weekend will feature two men who hold wins over Dillashaw. Cruz edged Dillashaw to reclaim the 135lb belt in January 2016. Cejudo stopped the TUF veteran in just 32 seconds at UFC Brooklyn in January 2019. Dillashaw has since been banned from the sport for doping and won’t be able to fight again until early next year.
Speaking to Sirius XM ahead of the UFC 249 clash between two former opponents Dillashaw had some pretty harsh words for ‘The Dominator’, he said.
“Cruz doesn’t really switch up his gameplan though, he’s kind of a one-trick pony. Even though he’s got all this crazy movement, these angles and stuff, he still is a one-trick pony. He can’t really change up, he can’t be like ‘I’m getting beat up on my feet, I better take this guy down and use jiu-jitsu.’ He doesn’t have that. Cody Garbrandt, he needed to knock him out, there was no way he was going to beat him, but he can’t do that. He doesn’t have knockout power. It’s not like Cruz can really change it, it’s more of a fact of it’s just hard to figure out.”
“He doesn’t fight like anybody else. You can’t bring someone in and be like hey will you fight me like Dominick Cruz? He’s got a good gameplan from the beginning and he sticks to it and he gets you to play his game, he gets you to chase him, and he takes advantage of it. I think the biggest X-factor is the distance and his control of it.”
Dillashaw admitted he was excited to watch the bantamweight title fight tomorrow night but stopped short of offering any type of prediction.
“We’ll see, man,” he said. “It’s definitely an interesting fight, I’m intrigued by it.” (Transcribed by BJPenn.com)
Do you agree with TJ Dillashaw? Is Dominick Cruz a one-trick pony?

Henry Cejudo puts his bantamweight title on the line against former champion Dominick Cruz in the UFC 249 co-main event tomorrow night.
Cejudo captured the belt last time out stopping Brazilian knockout artist Marlon Moraes insides three rounds to do so. Ever since he has been searching for big fights and he’s got one at UFC 249 against one of the best 135lb fighters in history.
Cruz hasn’t fought since losing his bantamweight title to Cody Garbrandt almost four years ago. A plethora of injuries have hampered his career but he oozes confidence heading into this UFC championship fight.
Check out our staff predictions for Henry Cejudo vs. Dominick Cruz.
Jordan Ellis: Dana White says this would be one of the biggest upsets in MMA history if Dominick Cruz becomes bantamweight champion at UFC 249 and I totally agree with him. Henry Cejudo is in his fighting prime and I expect him to make quick work of Dominick Cruz. ‘The Dominator’ can’t be anywhere near his best at right now and for that reason I doubt he’ll make it out of the early rounds
Prediction: Henry Cejudo
Abhinav Kini: This all depends on what Dominick Cruz shows up. But unless Cruz has massively declined in the last few years, I really don’t see how Henry Cejudo gets the victory. The size difference is already huge, Cruz is adept at wrestling and I don’t see him being held down either, he won’t gas out and his movement and striking will be too much for Cejudo. I have Cruz winning the decision and becoming a champion once again.
Prediction: Dominick Cruz
Ryan Galloway: In the Co-main event of the evening I think Dominick Cruz will be crowned the Bantamweight champion once again by defeating Henry Cejudo with a Decision. I see the fight being close however I think his elusiveness and reach advantage will be the determining factors in Cruz’s victory. I think Henry has a good chance to catch Dom early and maybe we won’t see the Cruz of old and that could favor Cejudo however, if the best Dominick Cruz shows up it’s going to be an extremely difficult night out for Cejudo.
Prediction: Dominick Cruz
Ryan Maccarthy: There are some major historical implications on this fight, whoever pulls it out will be making some crazy history. In terms of the fight itself, I have a hard time picking against one of the most decorated combat sports athletes ever against someone that hasn’t stepped inside in the octagon in 3.5 years. If anyone can pull that off though, its Dominik Cruz, a legend in his own right. Cruz’ length, unorthodox style, cardio, fight IQ, etc. are all cause for concern for Cejudo. But like I said, I have a hard time picking against him. I think its super close, Cejudo retains via Split Decision.
Prediction: Henry Cejudo

UFC president Dana White says Dominick Cruz beating Henry Cejudo would be the biggest upset of all time
Cejudo puts his bantamweight belt on the line against former champion Cruz at UFC 249 this weekend.
‘The Dominator’ hasn’t fought since losing his 135lb title to Cody Gardbrandt almost four years ago. A plethora of injuries has hindered the career of Cruz who has similarly long layoffs but always managed to return to the top of the sport.
Speaking to BT Sport White appeared doubtful Cruz would be able to do it again. The UFC boss would consider Cruz beating Cejudo this Saturday night the biggest upset of all time, he said.
“100 percent. I think it’s the biggest upset ever (if it happens). Say what you want about Henry Cejudo, (if) you don’t like his personality, the guy is unbelievable and he’s looked incredible in his last several outings. He is the man right now (in) two different weight classes,” White said.
“Dominick Cruz is the unluckiest fighter of all time. I mean the injuries that this guy’s had. If he can pull this off, it’s one of the biggest upsets. I’d put it right up there with Matt Serra vs. Georges St-Pierre.”
Cejudo has been super active in recent years and has established himself as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet. The Olympic gold medallist holds high profiles wins over Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson, TJ Dillashaw and Marlon Moraes. He appears to be hitting his athletic peak and would be a stiff test for Cruz even on his best day. It’ll be interesting to see how the UFC 249 co-main event plays out this weekend.
Do you agree with Dana White? If Dominick Cruz beats Henry Cejudo at UFC 249 will you consider it the biggest upset of all time?
