Henry Cejudo is not interested in fighting Joseph Benavidez and defending the flyweight title next. Instead, he wants to fight either Frankie Edgar or Dominick Cruz.

Why he wants to fight at bantamweight is simple. Making 125-pounds is hard for him and he prefers to fight at 135-pounds.

“Dana can say what he wants, and he’s the president and what not, but when you own two weight classes, when you have some kingdoms, I think I have the leverage,” Cejudo said on Brendan Schaub on the “Food Truck Diaries,” (via MMA Junkie). “No one’s going to force me to fight someone that I don’t want.

“Cutting weight is hard for me, man. Making ’25 is hard. My debut in the UFC, I didn’t make weight. I didn’t make weight a few times in my fighting career trying to make ’25.”

If he does stay at bantamweight, he has two fighters in mind, and they are, Frankie Edgar and Dominick Cruz. Even though Benavidez has a win over him, Cejudo says the weight cut is not worth it for him, so he believes his career will end at bantamweight.

“I like Frankie Edgar. I like the Dominick Cruz right now,” Cejudo said. “That’s what’s jumping at me. As much as Joe does have a victory over me … but at the end of the day, it’s cutting the weight, man – especially being up at ’35 and then feeling good, and having a good camp, and just being more happy. Be more happy, literally – like, I cut 25 pounds to get down to ’25.

“I’m going to end up finishing my career at bantamweight, 100 percent.”

If he does not defend the flyweight belt, there is a very good chance he would be forced to vacate the title. Then, Benavidez would fight someone for the vacant title.

Cory Sandhagen has his eyes set on two former UFC champions.

The surging contender at bantamweight would like to welcome Frankie Edgar to the bantamweight division or take on the longtime champ, Dominick Cruz.

“I would love to fight either Frankie or Cruz,” Sandhagen told MMA Junkie. “UFC wants me to fight this year again and me and my coaches decided that I need to not be in camp so that I can add in more tools and continue getting better without having a fight coming up.”

Sandhagen makes it clear he just wants big names or high-ranked opponents. He is coming off of a decision win over Raphael Assuncao which made him a top contender. Yet, he says he would have liked to fight any of the four 135-pounders fighting at UFC 245.

“The bantamweight fights booked for December were all matches I would have liked too,” Sandhagen said. “I knew all those guys were going to want to fight this year because they haven’t fought in a while so I was going to see how things played out, and I think they did a good job. Stylistically those are all interesting match ups.”

Currently, Cory Sandhagen believes the division is matched up so he doesn’t know when he will fight again. He expects it to be in 2020, and when he does, he believed Edgar and Cruz are the only options for him.

“So that leaves me with two options, either Frankie or Cruz,” Sandhagen said. “They have nobody else to fight that’s going to do anything for them as far as getting closer to a title. I’d love to fight either one of them early next year, but I’m spending the rest of my year working on new techniques and getting better. I have the long term in mind, so it’s on them if they want to wait. I’m doing what’s going to make me the best when I start to really peak in this sport.”

Dominick Cruz and Henry Cejudo have been going at each other for a while now.

Cejudo notably called him out late last month labeling the former bantamweight champion as a “tune up fight” while also taking a shot at his dog.

Cruz would fire back soon after and appearing on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Tuesday, touched on Cejudo’s credentials:

“He’s acting like he’s beat a bunch of people that haven’t been beat before,” Cruz said (via MMA Mania). “So that’s what I didn’t really understand. However, the shirt he’s wearing in the video has my name on it, so that’s cool.

A tune up fight? Yeah, I am going to tune him up, so he got that right. He knows I’m going to tune him up, it’s that simple.”

Cruz hasn’t fought since losing his bantamweight title to Cody Garbrandt at UFC 207 back in December 2016. He was scheduled to return twice only for injuries to come in the way.

Still, “The Dominator” believes a fight with Cejudo is something the UFC is interested in even despite his layoff:

“I think UFC is pretty interested in booking us,” he added. “You have to look at what’s been done. I set the most records in this division, first-ever to hold the title here.

I had it for the longest time of anybody in the division and the people that I beat to get to the title, I didn’t have an easy road. And not to mention my own setbacks that I’ve had on top of that.”

On top of everything, despite his accomplishments, Cruz still believes Cejudo is very green in the sport of mixed martial arts:

“The things that he has done in the sport, you have to tip your cap to him in the sport of wrestling,” Cruz explained. “But in the sport of fighting, he is still very green, very new and extremely soft. This man has been catered to his entire life because coaches his whole life have seen him as a super athlete.

So they always pull him out of the masses and take care of him, coddle him, baby him. He came straight out of high school to the Olympic training center to compete in wrestling.”
