Light-heavyweight contenders Dominick Reyes and Jiri Prochazka will no longer throw down at UFC Vegas 20 on February 27.
Reyes was hoping to propel himself back into the 205lb title mix after falling short in consecutive title fights.
UFC newcomer Prochazka made a big splash in his promotional debut by knocking out former title challenger Volkan Oezdemir.
“The fight has been postponed from February 27th but I’m looking forward to fighting Reyes in the near future, and wish him a quick recovery,” Prochazka wrote on Twitter.
Before this announcement fight fans already knew something was up, as heavyweight contender Jairzinho Rozenstruik revealed his upcoming fight with Ciryl Gane will now take place over five rounds on February 27.
“Ladies and gentlemen, my fight against Ciryl Gane got rescheduled for February 27! 5×5 minutes main card,” Rozenstruik wrote. “Spread the word!”
The heavyweight pair were originally scheduled to fight at the UFC Fight Night card on March 13. Rozenstruik and Gane had been set to scrap for three rounds on the undercard of Leon Edwards vs. Khamzat Chimaev but will now square off two weeks earlier in the main event slot.
Gane stretched his perfect record to 7-0 last time out. The Frenchman picked up the biggest win of his career when he stopped former heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos at UFC 256.
Rozenstruik also beat Dos Santos last time out. ‘Big Boi’ stopped the Brazillian in round two of their fight at UFC 252. Prior to that he was vicously knocked out by Francis Ngannou. Rozenstruik also holds a high-profile knockout win over Alistair Overeem.

Recent vacant UFC light heavyweight championship challenger, Dominick ‘The Devastator’ Reyes looks to rebuild ahead of steam toward his thrid promotional title shot, with a high-stakes matchup opposite finishing ace, Jiri Prochazka currently in the works for a UFC Fight Night main event on February 27. As of writing, a location or venue for the event has yet to be confirmed by the organization.
Challenging current champion, Jan Blachowicz for the vacant crown in September at UFC 253 on ‘Fight Island’ – Reyes dropped his second consecutive and professional defeat in a big second-round knockout loss to the Pole.
A dangerous striker, the Hesperia native has scored notable Octagon wins over former 185-pound kingpin, Chris Weidman, the above-mentioned, Oezdemir, veteran contender, Ovince Saint Preux, as well as a first-round knockout win over middleweight contender, Jared Cannonier in May of 2018.
A former RIZIN FF light heavyweight titleholder, Prochazka has won his last elven professional walks straight – picking up victories over UFC alumnus, Fabio Maldonado, and C.B. Dollaway, as well as current Bellator heavyweight best, Vadim Nemkov, and former Bellator middleweight champion, Brandon Halsey, to go with a rematch knockout win over one-time Strikeforce best, ‘King Mo’ Mohammed Lawal. From twenty-seven professional wins, Prochazka has scored a staggering twenty-four knockout triumphs.
Former dual-weight UFC champion Daniel Cormier believes Jon Jones relinquished his light-heavyweight title out of fear. ‘DC’ think Jones wanted to avoid a Dominick Reyes fight at all costs but will now return to 205lbs after Jan Blachowicz became the new light-heavyweight king by knocking out Reyes at UFC 253.
Speaking with Ariel Helwani on ESPN Cormier discussed Blachowicz’s title win and Jones tweeting in the aftermath about potentially fighting the Poland native instead of competing at heavyweight as planned.
“That’s so whack,” Cormier said. “Have you ever met a guy that’s so out of touch? He’s so out of touch. It’s like, OK, Jon, then why not just go, ‘I was afraid of Dominick Reyes. Now I want to go back to 205 and fight Jan Blachowicz because he beat Dom’? That’s crazy. I mean, who does that? Who does that?
“He could have fought Reyes. This could have been him and Reyes (Saturday). This was supposed to be him and Reyes. Instead, he gave up the belt. He gave up the belt and said, ‘I want to fight at heavyweight.’ Now, ‘Maybe, I’ll go back?’ How could you be so out of touch? I don’t get it.”
Although Cormier thinks Jones moving back down to challenge Blachowicz is “whack” he also believes ‘Bones’ would be smart to take on the new champion due to the fact he believes it is a very winnable fight for his long-time rival.
“(Blachowicz) is too slow to beat (Jones),” Cormier said. “The thing about Jones is people don’t realize he’s got a good chin. You can hit him. I hit him. A lot of us hit him. He can take punches. If Jan Blachowicz is out there and he’s too slow, Jones will pick him apart. God, I can’t believe it. Look, if I was still fighting at 205 or if I was still fighting today and you said, ‘D.C., you can fight Jan Blachowicz,’ I’d probably fight Jan Blachowicz. No disrespect, just because I think… it’s surprising, right?
“When you have footage of people getting old victories over him, you think you can do it, too. Any fighter does. If you’re a guy like myself or Jones, then, of course, you think you can beat him. That’s why Jones will go fight him.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)
Do you agree with Daniel Cormier? Did Jon Jones relinquish his light-heavyweight title out of fear?
