The biggest star in MMA history will make his return to the UFC octagon this evening. Conor McGregor has not fought since losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 back in October 2018. Tonight, he’ll square off against fight veteran Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC 246. The event will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It will air on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+/UFC Fight Pass. If like many, you’ll be having a bet on tonights fight be sure to check out our MMA betting guide.

The 31-year-old Irishman heads into this matchup somewhat rusty to say the least. Not only has he been out of the cage for over a year, before that he last competed in MMA in 2016. So, on the day of the fight it quite surprising to see him a heavy favourite. ‘Notorious’ is currently -300 to win in the UFC 246 main event. The bookmakers have been reducing his odds throughout fight week. Clearly lots of people took up their previous odds of -200 on the Dublin native. Unless your betting big, simply picking McGregor to win won’t be enough to earn you proper money. You’re going to have to pick the method of victory. Luckily the sports betting sites have plenty of prop bets for us to choose from. McGregor is known for the power he possesses and the ability to knock people out. Common sense says if he’s going to win that’s how he’ll do it.  Unfortunately, those odds aren’t much better at -200 for the favourite to get the KO/TKO finish. But if you pick the specific round, you can get yourself some better odds. ‘Notorious’ is known for his fast starts, he may well get this fight done early. In round one he’s +175 to get the finish and +325 to get the stoppage in the second. As the fight goes on his odds only increase, due to his documented cardio issues. Perhaps you think we’ll see McGregor do something unexpected tonight. In that case you can get him at +1500 to win by submission or +650 to get the victory on the judge’s scorecards.

During his opponents time out of the cage ‘Cowboy’ has fought five times for the UFC. The American fan favourite has picked up three impressive wins during those fights. Unfortunately, right now he’s on a two-fight losing streak. However lucky for anyone placing a bet on him, the bookmakers have seriously underestimated his abilities in this fight. For Cerrone to earn a victory by any method he is at odds of +260 and they haven’t really changed throughout fight week. A truly versatile fighter ‘Cowboy’ has many routes to victory, giving us lots of options to consider. The 36-year-old is -660 to become the first man to knockout McGregor. One weakness of the Irish fighter is his ability on the ground. Each of his four losses have come by submission. Cerrone has 17 career wins by this method and his odds of +600 to get the tap in this fight may be the most appealing of the lot. Former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor was involved in an uncharacteristically friendly press conference last night. In the build up to UFC 246, the Irishman and Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone, spent much of their time trading compliments. This was a first in the UFC career of ‘Notorious’ who had earned his nickname through his previous fight week actions. Speaking to media including Andrew Whitelaw after the press conference was done, he reflected.

“It was a good experience. It was a good atmosphere, it was good getting face-to-face with Donald. Good times. It’s going to be a good contest.”

This is all a far cry from what MMA fans and media are used too. Last time out along with McGregor went all out for Khabib Nurmagomedov. It become one of the biggest and nastiest rivalries in MMA history. Although heightened, that is vintage McGregor. Throughout his career, he has relied on mental warfare to get inside his opponents heads. From stealing Jose Aldo’s belt to launching cans of drink at the Diaz brothers. His fight buildups have always been wild, fun and unpredictable. Perhaps he’s turned a new leaf? Or maybe Cerrone is just such a nice guy he doesn’t have anything negative to say? Either way blood will be spilled on Saturday night, although it won’t be bad blood as McGregor pointed out on several occasions.

What do you make of Conor McGregors new fight week approach?

Chuck Liddell questions why the UFC would attempt to make the big fight between Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone a co-headliner.

Cerrone confirmed the problem comes down to the position of the card for this fight as the UFC wanted to place them in the co-main event. This is a bout that has been speculated to take place on July 6th as part of International Fight week in Las Vegas, Nevada at the T-Mobile Arena.

Liddell was recently interviewed by TMZ Sports where he sounded off on this fight and desire to see it.

”It’s a main event fight for sure, no matter what,” Liddell told TMZ Sports. “Come on, Conor McGregor and Cowboy? F**k. Those are two of my favorite fighters. I love watching those guys fight. Whether you like those guys are not, personality wise, those guys are studs. They fight, they fight tough, they fight brave.”

”I think he’ll fight him, he’s a fighter, they should fight,” Liddell said. “It’s a great fight, they’re both good strikers, it’s gonna be a lot of fun. I’m excited for that fight, I hope it happens. I think McGregor’s pulling back to make sure he gets paid right. I think he’s playing it soft cuz he’s ‘I’m not backsliding on this fight, you gonna pay me enough to do this.’ I hope they pay him well for that fight. They should.”

Liddell lost in late November to former fellow UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz by first-round knockout. In the fight, Ortiz evaded almost every attack with ease before he stopped Liddell with a violent right hand.

The UFC 239 pay-per-view event takes place on July 6th as part of International Fight Week. As of this writing, there’s no date or location for this show but it’s likely to take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

McGregor is slated to be cleared to fight again in early April after his Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) suspension for his involvement in the UFC 229 brawl is up.

“The Notorious” suffered his second-ever loss under the UFC banner this past October. Khabib Nurmagomedov submitted him at UFC 229, which marked his first official title defense as UFC lightweight champion.

Dana White open to this potential fight between Donald Cerrone and former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

A fight versus McGregor had been rumored to take place once Cerrone started dropping hints at it. Obviously that didn’t happen as the former UFC champion is temporarily suspended due to his actions in the UFC 229 brawl. He’ll having a hearing later this month to determine his fate. Thus, in the meantime, Cerrone took his latest fight.

Cerrone finished Alexander Hernandez in a lightweight bout in the second round by TKO at the UFC on ESPN+ 1 event. This show went down down on Saturday night (January 19, 2019) at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Following the fight, Cerrone called him out and McGregor responded by stating that he would be willing to book the fight.

This led to the UFC President talking about the potential showdown at the post-fight press conference with the media. Obviously, with the two stars having such big names, it would do great business.

White was quoted by stating “That’d be cool,” when asked by media reporters about the potential fight.

“If those guys want that (fight) and fans want to see it, that’s what I do. We’ll see what happens,” White said (H/T to MMAWeekly).

“Don’t run out there and say that’s the fight I’m making. I don’t know what I’m gonna do. But I like the fact that two of these guys that are complete dogs and fight anybody – are willing to fight anybody – want to fight each other; that’s fun.”

Donald Cerrone vs. Conor McGregor Makes Sense According To Chael Sonnen

Chael Sonnen thinks there is one thing that makes sense with Donald Cerrone vs. Conor McGregor.

The post Donald Cerrone vs. Conor McGregor Makes Sense According To Chael Sonnen appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Donald Cerrone vs. Conor McGregor is a fight that has a real possibility of happening and it makes sense according to Chael Sonnen. The former title contender in both the UFC and Bellator MMA recently gave his take on this potential fight. This bout is something that appears to be gaining more and more traction.

Obviously, the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion is the biggest name in the sport of MMA right now. On the flip side, Cerrone is still a big named fighter in the UFC who should get a marquee name to face next. Thus, him fighting McGregor makes a lot of sense.

“There is something to a Donald Cerrone-Conor McGregor fight that makes a lot more sense than maybe a lot of people put together,” Sonnen said.

Donald Cerrone vs. Conor McGregor History

Sonnen continued by bringing up that there is some history between Cerrone and McGregor, which will help create an angle in order to sell the fight. Cerrone is fresh off a big win in front of his hometown crowd in Denver against Mike Perry this past weekend.

“There is a back-and-forth between Donald Cerrone and Conor McGregor that’s on video,” Sonnen pointed out (H/T to Bloody Elbow). “That’s very relevant for promotion. Donald Cerrone vs. McGregor does work. That fight sells. That fight works. That’s the kind of fight I think stylistically that Conor’s gonna look at. Go ‘Yeah, I would take that.’ For sure, Cowboy’s gonna look at that and take that.”

McGregor, on the other hand, is coming off a submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at the UFC 229. He is still under an indefinite suspension for the post-fight brawl. Now, the former UFC champ will have to get an answer from the NSAC on December regarding his future.

“I think if you’re looking at the Conor McGregor sweepstakes that is constantly going on. Yeah, he’s suspended right now and he’s got to get through Nevada,” Sonnen said.

With all that said, this is a fight to be made according to Sonnen. He also thinks that in the meantime, Khabib should fight Tony Ferguson next as well.

“But I do not believe that there is an immediate path to Conor McGregor and Khabib (rematch). I really think it’s gonna go Khabib-Tony.”
