UFC lightweight contender Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone was involved in a car wreck today, but wait until you hear what he was doing at the time….

Donald Cerrone, veteran of many mixed martial arts and Muay Thai wars, came up short in his most recent fight in the UFC octagon. Facing off against Rafael dos Anjos to round out 2015 in Orlando, ‘Cowboy’ got rocked early in the first round of their rematch. The Brazilian champion kept his belt with a first round TKO finish and it was back to the drawing board for Cerrone. It wasn’t long before the news of ‘Cowboy’s’ next fight was confirmed.

Returning at UFC Fight Night 83 this coming February 21, Cerrone will finally move up to welterweight. He’ll be taking on the dangerous ‘Dirty Bird’ Tim Means, in a fight that has $50K bonus written all over it. So business as usual for the scrappy contender, until today that is, and his latest Instagram post. Check it out:

don

Oh the irony! Filming for the popular TV show ‘Road to the Octagon’ and Cerrone manages to wreck his raptor 4 x 4 in the snowy Colorado conditions. With his rebound fight just around the corner, we’re assuming by the number of smiley faces on the post that ‘Cowboy’ has managed to escape unscathed, but no official news yet.

We’ve seen Cerrone raise the heart rate of UFC president Dana White by doing extreme sports the week of big fights, and it’s usually when the Embedded camera crew are in town to film him. Now the Road to the Octagon guys get the ‘Cowboy’ treatment up close.

Fingers crossed no one was seriously hurt in this extremely ironic car wreck, and the fight with Tim Means at UFC Fight Night 83 can hopefully go down without a hitch.

Stay tuned to LowKick MMA for updates.

Cerrone took a jab at the appeal company when he posted a photo of him and training partners wearing Nike gear, which is a rival of Reebok’s. Cerrone posted this on Twitter and Instagram:

Cerrone has not been afraid of voicing his opinion about Reebok as he recently told Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour that UFC officials told him that if he committed the same violation that he did at UFC on FOX 17, then they wouldn’t let him fight again.

“And then the part that really upset me is that they said if I do it again, I won’t be able to fight again,” he told Ariel Helwani. “So, that kind of buckled me.

“We’ll see. I mean, I plan on wearing it again. If they want to fine me, I’m going to wear it again. We’ll see.”

Cerrone is set to fight Tim Means in a welterweight main event at UFC Fight Night 82 on February 21st.

Lorenzo Fertitta On UFC Fighters Violating New Reebok Policy: “I Think It’s Not Fair”

lorenzo-fertitta

UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta recently spoke with The Boston Herald about his growing frustration with the “very, very small minority” of fighters who aren’t complying with the new UFC/Reebok uniform and sponsorship policy.

As reported last week, UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael dos Anjos, as well as Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Nate Diaz violated the policy. With these three being the aforementioned “very, very small minority,” Fertitta addressed the trio by offering the following analogy regarding kids who have to wear uniforms in school.

“I think it’s not fair for fighters not to comply with the outfitting policy,” Fertitta said to the Boston-based publication. “It’s a very, very small minority of athletes that haven’t complied so far. It’s like when you went to school, you know? Some people get detention for being out of uniform. It’s not that hard. Tuck your shirt in.”

Currently, UFC fighters are earning between $2,500 and $40,000 per fight off of the sponsorship money they receive from the Reebok deal, most of which is determined by the amount of fights you have had inside the UFC’s Octagon, or any other past company that Zuffa, the parent-company of UFC, now owns. Among them are the defunct WEC, Strikeforce and PRIDE promotions, just to name a few.

According to Fertitta, the UFC is paying out more than they are currently taking in from the Reebok outfitting deal.

“Heck yeah, man, when this thing grows and Reebok actually builds a sustainable business, fighters are going to get more money allocated to that,” said Fertitta.

“I think we’re going to look back in 10 years and look at some of these fights back from 2011, 2012, and go, ‘Wow, did the UFC really look like that?'”

Donald Cerrone Challenges Reebok: Donate “Ludicrous” Fine To Military Charity

donald cerrone ufc

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone was among the first fighters fined for violating the UFC & Reebok’s uniform policy for fighters. Cerrone says he was fined a “ludicrous” amount of money for sewing an American flag patch on to his shorts, which he does as a tribute to his late grandmother.

Here’s what Cerrone said on The MMA Hour this week about the situation:

“Absolutely I was fined for it, for wearing an old flag. Patriotically, that is not very cool, is it? Especially when they make a pair of green shorts for McGregor and I get fined for putting a small piece of an American flag on my shorts. It represents my grandma. That’s all besides the point. Just the fact that it was an American flag, just look at that fact. That alone is, you know, whether it’s superstitious or a gift from my grandma, it’s because I love the United States, it doesn’t matter. I understand the fine, sure, I’ll take a fine, but what they did to me was a lot more than a fine brother. I am not going to tell you the amount, because I don’t think that’s right. Let’s just say it was a lot, like a lot, a lot. I want to talk to Reebok and tell them that they can have the money, I am okay with that. But, let’s at least take that money and give it to a charity of your discretion. I don’t care who. Let’s make it a Wounded Warrior, or any military charity you want. Since it was a flag and I feel like it was patriotic, lets give it back to people that’s the reason I get to fight and walk around to be free every single day that they fight their lives for us. Let’s donate that to them, I’ll even double it. I’ll match the amount and give it. It’s not the fact that they took, it’s that it’s over the flag. The amount to me was crazy. A few grand? Sure, I would’ve taken that, but the amount they took was ludicrous, so. My thing to whoever took it, don’t give it back to me, let’s donate it to Wounded Warrior, or to a charity to women whose children were orphaned because their fathers were defending our country.”

As part of the UFC’s Reebok outfitting policy, fighters must only wear Reebok gear during the week of the fight. The deal between the UFC and Reebok has been heavily criticized for making it harder for fighters to earn income.

Nick Diaz was also fined for wearing jeans at the recent UFC on FOX weigh-ins.

And Now, In Actually “Earned” Title Shots: Donald Cerrone Faces Rafael Dos Anjos at UFC on FOX 17

The UFC has rematch fever, babayyy!! Thankfully, this one actually makes the smallest bit of sense.

Nearly three years after they first clashed horns at Fight Night 27, Donald Cerrone and Rafael Dos Anjos will do battle again, only this time, the lightweight title will be on the line. Fox Sports’ Damon Martin broke the news of the Dos Anjos-Cerrone rematch earlier today, which is scheduled to transpire at UFC on FOX 17 in the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida on December 19th.

It’s been a long road to the title for “Cowboy,” who has put together an unbelievable 8 consecutive wins since his previous fight with Dos Anjos. Among his list of victims: Edson Barboza, Eddie Alvarez, Ben Henderson, and most recently, John Makdessi. He also made headlines back in July when he threw a not-so-subtle jab at Dos Anjos for being a steroid user via the Twitters:

Dos Anjos was quick to respond, stating “Anthony and Diaz beat your ass did you see what I did to them i’ll make sure to give you the worst beating,” which fits the minimum criteria to throw a “GRUDGE MATCH” stamp on this fight.

Dos Anjos last fought at UFC 185, where he dethroned Anthony Pettis via a one-sided unanimous decision. Meanwhile, former #1 contender (and the last man to defeat Dos Anjos), Khabib Nurmagomedov, can only pick up the occasional fight at a WSOF event. Sad.

Will the Brazilian put another beating on Cerrone, or are we finally entering The Cowboy Era? Give us your predictions in the comments section (if it’s working), Nation.
