Bellator president Scott Coker believes Lorenz Larkin is next in line for Douglas Lima.

Larkin made it four wins in a row following his unanimous decision win over Keita Nakamura at Bellator Japan on Saturday. Michael Page, meanwhile, also competed on the card as he made it three wins in a row following his knockout of Shinsho Anzai.

Both fighters have campaigned to get the next welterweight title shot at Lima but it’s Larkin who will probably win the race according to Coker:

“To me, I think the fight that we would like to see is Lorenz fight Lima, because he hasn’t fought him before,” Coker said (via MMA Junkie). “But I’d also like to see Lorenz fight ‘MVP,’ too. So, we’ll see. We’re going to mix it up and have some fun with that weight class.”

Lima notably handed Page his first-ever career loss when he knocked him out en route to regaining the Bellator welterweight title. The Brazilian also believes “MVP” needs a step up in competition before thinking of a rematch.

As for Larkin, he is yet to face Lima and although he notably missed weight against Nakamura, Coker is willing to give him a pass:

“We can look past that,” Coker added. “He came a long way and it’s not an easy task. I think that the flight, the trip, it’s just a different environment. I think in the timeframe that was different, that had a lot to do with it.

“The guy has fought – I don’t know his record offhand – but I think in 24 fights he has never missed weight. So we’ve got to give him a pass for that one.”

Do you think Larkin deserves the next shot?

Douglas Lima doesn’t seem too impressed with Michael Page’s resume. However, Page thinks, if he continues his winning ways, the welterweight champ won’t be able to deny him another shot at beating him.

Page, who faces UFC veteran Shinsho Anzai this Saturday in Japan at Bellator 237, spoke to MMA Junkie on the matter recently. “Venom” plans to continue racking up victories until Lima can no longer deny him.

“Douglas Lima was speaking about me and said he’s never fought anybody as fast as me before and is excited and is looking forward to having that rematch,” Page said. “The second I won, he’s like, ‘Nah, you have to fight some more people.’

“He was like, ‘Nah, I’m not even letting you come back that quick,’ so, it’s going to happen either way. There’s going to be a point where he’s not going to be able to stop it, and like I said, if I keep doing what I’m doing now, stay active, stay busy, keep beating people, then 100 percent he can’t stop it.”

Lima and Page met in the semifinals of the Bellator Welterweight Grand Prix Tournament earlier this year. During the fight, Page was knocked out in the second round, suffering the only loss of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career. Now, after back-to-back wins since the loss, both coming by way of a knockout, Page has his eyes set on a rematch with Lima.

Of course, he’ll likely need to get through a few more fights before earning such an opportunity.

What do you think about Page claiming Lima can’t deny him a rematch if he keeps winning?

Douglas Lima has proven himself as one of the best welterweights in mixed martial arts (MMA) today.

He is now a three-time Bellator 170-pound champion coming off his Welterweight Grand Prix Tournament Finals win over Rory MacDonald, capturing the title in the process. With the accolade, Lima appears to be searching for some new challenges. Speaking to MMA Junkie, Lima said he’s interested in moving up to middleweight and chasing gold at 185 pounds.

“I’m sure there will be a couple of rematches unless they sign some big names at welterweight,” Lima said. “But I really want to move up to 185 to fight for that belt. That’s an option I’m thinking about and waiting to hear back if we can do that for the next fight or the one after next. I already gave them a date I want to fight.

“I want to fight in March or April. They’re working now as we speak, so we’ll see what they come up with but I’m opening to middleweight title or defending my belt. It’s whatever Bellator decides.”

Lima has shared the Octagon with some of the best mixed martial artists the sport has ever seen. Moving up in weight and facing competition bigger than him doesn’t seem to be too much of a concern.

“I think size-wise it wouldn’t be so bad at middleweight,” Lima said. “I’ve been saying for a long time that I want to move up and never did. I just think the timing, it makes sense for me right now to move up and do it. I just got through this tournament, got the welterweight belt for the third time and I think this is going to be very good for my career right now if I move up and take that title. I’m not here calling out names and all that, but for my career, that would be amazing.”

“I don’t think I’ll be a small middleweight. I won’t be a huge middleweight, but I don’t think the weight is going to be a problem. The moment now seems right. The top five, top seven in Bellator, I’ve beaten all of them. So I think it really makes sense if I get that shot at middleweight right now.”

Bellator welterweight champion Douglas Lima believes Michael Page needs a legitimate win before he can think of challenging him for the title.

Page suffered his first career loss after he was knocked out by Lima earlier this year. Lima was undoubtedly Page’s biggest and toughest opponent yet. But despite the setback, “MVP” returned to facing lower-level fighters which he has regularly been criticized for.

As a result, he is on a two-fight winning streak following wins over Richard Kiely and Giovanni Melillo. Page is now set to take on Shinsho Anzai at Bellator 237 this weekend.

But if he really wants a rematch with Lima — who is now the Bellator 170-pound king again — he needs better wins according to the champion:

“‘MVP,’ he’s definitely got to get a better win against ranked opponents,” Lima told MMA Junkie. “The fans have been saying that. It’s like (laughs), come on. The guy is a killer, he’s really good, but that’s not what it’s about when it comes to titles.

“I had to go through a whole tournament against the top guys in my division to get my belt back. So, that’s got to happen for him. But whenever he’s ready and does his work, I’ll be waiting.”

Lima certainly has a point.

But it’s also clear that the promotion values Page as a huge star. That is why “The Phenom” wouldn’t be surprised if the Briton ended up getting a title shot. However, he reiterates that the time needs to be right.

“It is what it is,” Lima added. “He’s tough, he’s doing his thing and when the time is right we’ll do it for sure.”

Do you agree with Lima?
