DREAM lightweight champ Shinya Aoki open media workout for his upcoming DREAM/K-1 Special rules bout with Yuichiro “Jienotsu” Nagashima. Watch as Aoki slaps around some poor member of the media during his training. The interview is all in Japanese with no subtitles, sadly but the slapstick humor makes it worth watching.

Parts 2, 3 & 4 after the jump but the rest of the pre-show seems to change into some sort of daytime drama, mixed with shots of the events competitors. Part 1 is probably the only one worth watching, unless of course you like Japanese day-time soaps

Dynamite!! 2010 posterWith many internet lurkers waiting for the confirmation announcing a DREAM heavyweight matchup between Strikeforce champ Alistair Overeem (33-11) and former UFC fighter Todd Duffee (6-1) fans have been left waiting on news of the matchup.

Duffee’s manager, Monte Cox, has since confirmed the mathup for the December 31st bout set for the upcoming FieLDS Dynamite!! 2010 event in Japan.

Cox spoke to MMAFA.tv about the fight noting that Duffee isn’t 100% ready for the fight but his fighter felt he couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Duffee was preparing for an upcoming fight on Jan. 29 as part of a Titan Fighting Championships event, so he wasn’t entirely unprepared for a fight but has now apparently taken the fight with only a few weeks notice.

“This is one of those opportunities that come around once in a lifetime. Todd isn’t 100% and there isn’t enough time to get 100% ready, but he felt like it was a dream come true to fight against one of the best, if not the best, heavyweights in the world.

“I’ll be honest, I argued against taking the fight. I’d rather he have time to prepare and be at full strength… but he was adamant that this was a special opportunity and he wasn’t going to pass on it and regret it later on. He said ‘I’m a fighter… this is what I do.’ How am I supposed to argue with that logic?”

“This may be the greatest pose down in MMA history… these guys look like they walked into the ring after competing in a bodybuilding contest. The great thing is that both of them can fight and both have serious power. Nobody is expecting this thing to go all three rounds.”

If you’re wondering what’s up with Alistair Overeem, allow me to fill you in: He’s supposed to fight for Dream on New Year’s Eve, except for the pesky little problem that they can’t find an opponent for him (maybe it’ll be Todd Duffee), and then he’s supposed to fight for Strikeforce in the spring, except they’ve consistently been unable to find opponents for him (one title defense since he won their heavyweight belt more than three years ago).

In case you haven’t noticed, finding an opponent is kind of an important part of booking a fight. And the inability to consistently get fighters into the cage with the right opponents is the fundamental reason that Strikeforce, Dream and other MMA promotions consistently lag behind the UFC in generating fan interest and building momentum from one fight card to the next.

The UFC’s matchmakers, Joe Silva and (now that the WEC has been absorbed by the UFC) Sean Shelby, are like chess grand masters thinking several moves ahead. Other promotions are like a kid playing checkers, moving ahead one square at a time, without any long-term strategy.

Less than two weeks before FEG’s Dynamite!! 2010 show, Alistair Overeem finally knows who he will be facing on the card.

His opponent? Former UFC prospect Todd Duffee.

Duffee hinted at fighting Overeem on the Dec. 31 card late Tuesday evening on his Facebook, and since then MMA Fighting has confirmed with multiple sources close to the bout that both parties have officially agreed to the fight. Duffee deleted the status update shortly after posting the news on his Facebook page.

While Overeem, the Strikeforce heavyweight champion, was on hand for a pre-fight press conference in Japan on Wednesday, FEG is only expected to officially announce the fight sometime after Christmas.
