Apparently whoever runs the UFC Twitter account didn’t get the memo about Jon Jones’ DUI and 2015 hit-and-run controversy…
UFC light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will return to action this coming April 23, and it will be against his old and most bitter rival. The man that many regard as the greatest 205-poud fighter of all time, Jon Jones will make his long awaited comeback, in a rematch of the last time ‘Bones’ entered the octagon. That was January of 2015 at UFC 182, when Jones stifled ‘DC’ over five rounds to successfully defend his long-held championship. Since that time, it’s been a wild ride for the Jackson’s MMA product.
An April hit-and-run controversy in New Mexico could’ve signalled the end of Jones’ career as a fighter, and it certainly meant he was stripped of his belt and faced potential jail time for his crimes. The stories of Jones fleeing the scene and the marijuana paraphernalia found by police in his rental car made the situation only more damaging. Fortunately for ‘Bones’ and his fans, the ex-champion never served prison time, received a fine and community service and was eventually reinstated by the promotion.
Just days after the announcement of Jones’ return, the UFC Tweeted this hilariously awkward message about drunk driving. The irony was not lost on us:
Along with his failed drug test for cocaine, his admitted addiction to Marijuana, past DUI troubles and PR stunts like a mini-stay in rehab, Jones’ reputation was pretty much shattered by year’s end 2015. Now on the comeback trail and looking bigger than ever, the world waits with high anticipation for his UFC 197 rematch with Cormier. The AKA stand out and former Olympic team member ‘DC’ took Jones’ place at UFC 187, submitting Daniel Cormier and then defending his title against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 192.
We look forward to the huge second fight between Jones and Cormier, and any other social media derps from the promotion in the meantime.
Yesterday, however, it was reported by TMZ Sports that Diaz’s lawyer had cut a deal sweeter than the Purple Urkel-Trainwreck hybrid strain that Nick was vaping at his hearing:
Diaz was facing real jail time if convicted in both cases — but struck a sweet plea deal with prosecutors in which he pled no contest to DUI with .08 or higher, and in exchange 3 charges were thrown out … including the second DUI. He was sentenced to 2 days in jail — and gets credit for 1 day served … so he’ll be a free man in no time.
In addition to the jail time, Diaz also got 3 years of informal probation and must complete a DUI educational course.
Diaz is expected to serve out his sentence later this month after his follow-up court hearing. With any luck, we’ll be seeing him back in the cage by 2016, where he will fight Brock Lesnar in a PPV-shattering superfight, lose by unanimous decision, and then get popped for marijuana metabolites. Because Nick Diaz is like the crazy ex that the UFC just can’t help booty calling at 2 a.m. after a string of alcohol-induced bad decisions. No matter how many times he gives them VD, or steals their car, or refuses to cuddle after, they just can’t keep their hands off the goods. You know what I’m talking about…

UFC Hall of Famer Stephan Bonnar hasn’t made it easy for himself departing the largest MMA organization in the world. Apart from drug test woes and being involved in one of the most masochistic segments we’ve ever had to witness on broadcast television before his Bellator 131 snorefest of the year battle against Tito Ortiz (which he lost by split decision), “The American Psycho” surprised and saddened many followers over the weekend into thinking he was live-tweeting an arrest for DUI.
Below are some of the UFC legend’s fighter’s tweets, mentioning he was pulled over and broke his nine-month reign of sobriety (the tweets have been deleted, so props to MMA Junkie for the transcriptions):
9 months sober ..till tonight. Sorry God

Bonnar later admitted during Sunday afternoon that this was an “April Fool’s Joke,” and that his run-in with the police was in fact a true story from college.
I’m not sure what’s worse: giving us a rundown of how you beat the cops during your wasted youth at Purdue University in 1998, or joking about a pretty serious matter that takes the lives of innocent people every day.
At this point in his career, it’s not exactly the time to make funnies coming off a loss to the most injury-prone fighter in the universe, more or less wasting a golden opportunity to stay relevant. Did someone tell Bonnar that we drank a boatload of alcohol while watching his main event fight this past November, and that sometimes, substances don’t solve all your problems?

According to an ESPN report, UFC welterweight Nick Diaz pleaded not guilty yesterday to eight DUI-related charges stemming from incidents in November 2013 and earlier this month. Diaz’s plea was entered in San Joaquin County Court in California, through his attorney Mandeep Singh Sidhu.* His next court appearance is slated for November 6th, less than three months before he’s scheduled to face Anderson Silva at UFC 183.
Diaz’s charges include DUI, DUI with an alcohol or drug level above .08, unsafe speed for prevailing conditions, failure to appear after written promise**, driving with a suspended license, and a resisting arrest charge that Diaz picked up while trying to vomit up his alcohol at the Lodi Police Department.

Because the Man is always trying to keep a good homey down, UFC welterweight star Nick Diaz was arrested in Lodi early last Saturday morning, September 6th, on suspicion of DUI, obstructing a police officer, destruction of evidence* and driving with a suspended license.
According to Sgt. Mike Kermgard of the Lodi Police Department, Diaz was arrested by Cpl. Eric Bradley at 2:20 a.m. after being stopped while driving down the 600 block of East Pine Street, wherever that is. Diaz is expected to be arraigned later this month.
The older brother of UFC lightweight Nate Diaz and estranged son of the Unabomber, Nick Diaz is scheduled to meet former middleweight champion Anderson Silva in a superfight at UFC 183 on January 31st. This incident will not interfere with that fight happening, trust me. We’ll pass along more details when we have them.
* I’m gonna take a wild guess and say, “he threw his weed out the window.”

(“Police at the scene became suspicious of a possible DUI when the driver exited his car and asked quote ‘What seems to be the officer, problem?’ Back to you in the studio, Jim.”)
I should start by confessing that the above photo is not the result of Tito Ortiz’s latest vehicular mishap, but rather, one of the top Google search results for “hilarious car wrecks.” But the mere fact that I have to clear this up should tell you a lot about Ortiz’s chances of making the leap from fighter to chauffeur now that his MMA career is pretty much over.
In any case, it appears that Ortiz has allegedly been charged with two counts of DUI stemming from his early morning arrest a couple weeks ago. I say “allegedly” because the source reporting on the former LHW champion’s arrest is TMZ:
Former MMA champ Tito Ortiz has been charged with two counts of DUI … after crashing his Porsche into a concrete median back in January, TMZ Sports has learned.
The 38-year-old fighter was arrested on January 6th … when cops say he blew a .12 on the breathalyzer, following the 4am crash on an L.A. freeway.
If convicted, Ortiz faces up to 6 months in jail and a $1,000 fine — but since it’s his first offense, he probably won’t do any time. Instead, he’ll likely only be sentenced to probation and will be required to complete an alcohol education course.

What a man who does this and this to cars while sober can possibly learn from an alcohol education course is beyond me, but so goes the American justice system. Then again, considering Ortiz was headed home from a party at the Playboy Mansion on the morning in question, it’s safe to assume that alcohol was probably the least distracting factor he was dealing with.
