Dustin Poirier has taken to social media and seemingly confirmed that he has signed to fight Charles Oliveira for the lightweight title at UFC 269 on December 11.

“Signed, Sealed, Delivered,” Poirier wrote on Twitter on Sunday evening.

ESPN reporter Brett Okamoto later confirmed that the tweet was in reference to ‘The Diamond’ reaching the agreement with the UFC for a fight with ‘Do Bronx’ later this year.

“Dustin Poirier has agreed to challenge Charles Oliveira for the UFC lightweight title at UFC 269 on Dec. 11. Representatives for Poirier confirmed the agreement to @bokamotoESPN following Poirier tweeting, “Signed, Sealed, Delivered.”

Poirier appeared to have cemented himself as Oliveira’s first title defence when he picked up a second successive win over Conor McGregor at UFC 264 in July. However, since then the Lafayette, Louisiana native has been angling for a money fight with Nate Diaz. It now appears that he will get his second shot at the true lightweight title when he takes on Oliveira on December 11.

The Brazilian submission specialist won eight straight fights to earn a shot at the title recently vacated by the now-retired former champion, Khabib Nuramgomedov. Oliveira sensationally made it nine in a row when he faced off against Michael Chandler at UFC 262. ‘Do Bronx’ survived a very tough first frame before blitzing the former Bellator champion early in round two with a flurry of pinpoint strikes.

Do you think Dustin Poirier will finally become champion at UFC 269?

After Justin Gaethje placed doubts on the heart of Charles Oliveira, the #1-ranked UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier has defended the champion’s resolve.

“The Diamond” last competed in the Octagon against Conor McGregor. Their trilogy bout ended with “The Notorious” injuring his leg. Ever since that TKO, many assumed the only option to face the newly minted champion would be Dustin Poirier. After Oliveira secured gold in May, Gaethje was critical of the showing against Michael Chandler and labeled him a ‘quitter’. Following Gaethje’s statement, Poirier responded with disagreement.

The Louisiana native spoke in an interview with MMA Fighting and believes if there was still quit in the Brazilian that we all would have witnessed it in his title fight against Chandler at UFC 262.

“I’ve seen Charles in a lot of fights. He’s been in a lot of fights at a high level. So, I’ve seen him kind of fold in fights before. But I’ve also seen him rise to the occasion and show up in adversity. If he was a quitter, he had a chance to quit when Chandler hurt him. But he came back and put him away… The guy showed championship mentality. Got hurt, pulled it together, finish the guy, I mean, there was no quit that night.” Poirier said.

Poirier admits that the 155-pound titleholder has been shown to fold under pressure at times. Although the 32-year-old maintains that the shortcoming is a thing of the past for “Do Bronx.” All signs point to a collision course between Oliveira and Poirier. According to one of our reports, the match-up is being targeted for December 11 at UFC 269, and both athletes have verbal agreements in place.

Negotiations are underway for one of the biggest fights of the year. While the lightweight title bout has not been made official, MMA News will keep you updated before the ink dries on either contract.

Who do you believe will take home the lightweight crown when Oliveira meets Poirier in the Octagon?

Dustin Poirier is going to bat for champion Charles Oliveira.

Dustin Poirier is living up to his “nice guy” persona. Although he has a date with champion Charles Oliveira, there appears to be no need for trash talking. Poirier was the first to come to Oliveira’s defense and give him the props he deserves. Poirier spoke to MMAFighting.com about his future opponent.

“Charles Oliveira had a tough road like me,” Poirier said. He’s put in his work. He’s cut his teeth. He’s bled and clawed his way to being a world champion, and he is the undisputed world champion, no doubt about it. I see a lot of hate and a lot of shade being thrown online. That’s not gonna stop for anybody. But the guy’s earned it. And it’s inspiring to see guys like that, even like a guy like Bisping, Charles Oliveira, if I can do it, I put myself in the same category. Guys who get knocked down and climb back up, never say die. Respect.”

Poirier has had a great deal of success in his career so far. Most recently his wins over Conor McGregor have made him a household name and have gotten him in a place where he is going for the title. Despite being respectful to Oliveira, Poirier knows he is bound to be a champion. He has posted on his Twitter that he is the “Undisputed World Champion,” and others may believe that as well. Being called the unofficial champion is cool to Poirier but he is not ready to accept the title without the fight.

“I’m not. I mean, it’s cool. It’s fun,” Poirier said. “But I’m not. Charles is the world champion. I’m trying to do that. I have an opportunity. I have 25 minutes to make that happen, so it’s up to me.”

Oliveira and Poirier are set to meet up at UFC 269 on December 11.

Do you think Poirier has what it takes to beat Oliveira and finally be crowned the undisputed champion?
