It was fully expected that Khabib Nurmagomedov would face a formal complaint for inciting an all-out brawl after the main event of last weekend’s UFC 229. It was not expected that his opponent Conor McGregor would face a complaint for the UFC 229 brawl as well.

That’s just the case according to a report from ESPN tonight. Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) chairman Anthony Marnell revealed they would be filing complaints against both Khabib and McGregor. Temporary suspensions are also incoming.

The situation will be up for a hearing in November:

“We will be filing against Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov,” Marnell said. “Because we withheld one purse, we will have to move expeditiously to a complaint and hearing. “We have held 100 percent of one of the fighter’s money. Temporary suspensions will be out shortly, and we’re shooting for a final hearing date in November.”

Marnell said there were many dynamics in play here. He focused on Khabib’s teammate who jumped into the Octagon to strike McGregor three times:

“There are a lot of things here,” Marnell said. “There are a lot of charges that can be brought against a spectator who came over the barricade, through the commission section and into the Octagon to strike a fighter three times. For the record, I have a massive problem with that. That cannot happen.”

Charges Pending

Marnell claimed the NSAC knew who that man was. It may be the man who is boasting about slapping McGregor online. His next step was to speak with the attorney general to determine what charges could be brought against him:

“We’re taking a really hard look at that gentleman. We know exactly who he is and where he is. I have to let the attorney general determine — is that trespassing, disturbing the peace? That was a serious action and it deserves a serious consequence.”

Marnell then described Khabib’s potential punishment. He noted that the UFC champion would face both a fine and a suspension:

“Both. It’s always both. We could do one or the other, but at least in the chair’s mind, I think the commission will be entertaining a recommendation from the attorney general that will include both.”

Marnell closed by clarifying that the UFC 229 brawl was a very serious issue and putting it in perspective. This was not a brawl outside of the fight, but one at the actual fighting event. The melee is under the regulations of the commission as a result.

Marnell said the punishment has to fit the crime because of it:

“This is a serious issue, this is not a light issue,” Marnell said. “This isn’t, ‘We smacked each other in the face in a hotel lobby the week of a fight.’ This is the night of the event, and it needs to stay inside that field of combat. There are serious regulations and statutes about what took place, and the consequences have to match the actions.”

The scene following the Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor main event at last night’s (Sat., October 6, 2018) UFC 229 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, may legitimately be the most chaotic scene in UFC history. Now it’s unfortunately resulted in a UFC 229 fan brawl.

Lightweight champ Nurmagomedov won the fight, submitting McGregor with a neck crank in the fourth (watch video highlights). But it was Nurmagomedov’s decision to jump into the crowd and incite an all-out brawl that is getting the publicity. UFC President Dana White was quick to react with disgust.

He revealed Khabib’s teammates who had jumped into the cage and sucker punched McGregor had reportedly been arrested. That was soon clarified when White revealed McGregor had refused to press charges. Khabib’s future as champion was up in the air when White said his fate was in the NSAC’s hands. McGregor was unfazed by the attack and instead wanted a rematch with Nurmagomedov.

It was quite the scene to unpack. Not surprisingly, following a week of chaos from McGregor fans in Las Vegas, some more violence followed. A graphic brawl broke out between a McGregor fan and a Khabib fan that ended with several McGregor fans being knocked out as a result.

Be warned and watch the graphic brawl from MMA Fighting right here:

Breaking: Conor McGregor Refuses To Press Charges On Assaulters

The Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor main event at last night’s (Sat., October 6, 2018) UFC 229 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, was billed as the UFC’s biggest fight of all-time. The Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor main event at last night’s (Sat., October 6, 2018) UFC 229 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, was billed as the UFC’s biggest fight of all-time. And indeed it may have lived up to its historic billing.

The undefeated ‘Eagle’ put on a stellar performance, submitting McGregor in the fourth round. However, all was not right in MMA after Khabib jumped the Octagon and started an all-out brawl with McGregor’s teammate Dillon Danis. Topping it off, some of ‘The Eagle’s’ teammates jumped over the Octagon wall into the cage. There they sucker-punched McGregor when he was still dazed.

It was a shocking, disturbing scene that earned a stinging reaction from UFC President Dana White. White then revealed that Khabib’s teammates had been arrested for the brawl. The scene was unfolding rapidly, however, and the details were being sorted out. White clarified at the UFC 229 post-fight press conference that Nurmagomedov’s teammates were no longer in police custody because McGregor did not press charges:

“So the way that works is, Conor was one of the guys that was attacked, and things like that. Conor refused to press charges. So the guys that they did have, they’ve released. They were three guys from Khabib’s team – I think they were from Khabib’s team, I don’t know – that were arrested and they were released because Conor didn’t want to press charges.”

Conor’s Call

An interesting turn in events to be sure. Perhaps McGregor doesn’t want to continue the legal proceedings that started earlier this spring. “The Notorious” threw a metal hand dolly through a bus containing ‘The Eagle.’ The attack got McGregor arrested and sparked their heated rivalry.

White told Megan Olivi on the FOX Sports 1 post-fight show that McGregor was feeling fine. He was more upset about the loss in the Octagon than the post-fight melee:

“I just met with him and he’s okay. You know, he’s upset about the fight , not about the fight after the fight, yeah.”

Khabib picked up by far his biggest win of all-time in UFC 229’s main event. Yet it was muddied by he and his team’s poor decision in the tense moment after.

That team has avoided severe ramification due to McGregor’s desire to not press charges. Will this rivalry continue in what is sure to be a record-setting rematch?

It featured a great main event, but tonight’s (Sat., October 6, 2018) Khabib vs. McGregor main event at UFC 229 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, was marred in controversy. Now it’s time Dana White responds.

Undefeated champion Khabib Nurmagomedov put on a wrestling clinic over the course of four rounds. He repeatedly ground McGregor and smothered him into the mat. In the end, he won with a brutalizing fourth-round submission. The scene that followed is what’s getting all the airtime, however. “The Eagle” scaled the cage and jumped into the crowd to fight McGregor’s teammate Dillon Danis.

It was a controversial, disgusting scene that marred an otherwise legendary victory for Khabib. Not surprisingly, White isn’t too happy about it. He responded to the all-out chaos in a post-fight interview on FOX Sports 1:

“A Lot of bad stuff. A lot of stuff that shouldn’t have happened. Um, you know, Khabib jumped over the cage and went after one of the Conor’s teammates who I guess was talking trash to him, and all hell broke loose.

“You know, this is uh, another, you know, obviously I don’t, I don’t even know what to say right now. I’m just disugsted and sick over it.”

Because of the brawl, White admitted the Khabib vs. McGregor rivalry was far from over. He expected as much based on the pre-fight banter.

What he didn’t see coming, however, was Khabib scaling the wall and starting the fight:

“No. they both made it very clear the rivalry would not be over after the fight. But I didn’t see Khabib jumping over the octagon. I didn’t see that coming. And we had so much security and metro here, and everything, so, that was interesting. I didn’t see that coming.”

No one did, Dana, no one did. Finally, White revealed that Nurmagomedov’s AKA teammates Daniel Cormier and Luke Rockhold calmed the chaotic scene:

“Yeah, Daniel Cormier and Luke were great in trying to diffuse the whole thing, so yeah.”

Tonight’s (Sat., October 6, 2018) UFC 229 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, has been built as the biggest event in UFC history. If that promises to be true, the UFC 229 prelims certainly got it off to a fitting start.

Welterweight Tony Martin met veteran Ryan LaFlare in the opening bout of the Fight Pass-aired UFC 229 preliminary card. Martin talked a decent amount of trash heading into the fight, and he backed it up. The bout was a back-and-forth one for much of the opening two rounds. LaFlare landed several solid body kicks while Martin scored with many right hands.

The third round was a different story altogether, however. Martin landed a devastating head kick that crumpled LaFlare. A few follow-up shots on the ground spelled an end to UFC 229’s opening preliminary bout. Watch the awesome stoppage victory here:

And here is a slow-motion shot of the kick landing flush:

Tonight’s (Sat., October 6, 2018) UFC 229 main event between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, is the biggest UFC fight ever. It’s understandable that it’s bringing the biggest and best from the sports and entertainment worlds. That was clear when superstar rapper Drake became involved.

Such was the case at last night’s UFC 229 ceremonial weigh-ins. Chaos erupted at the scene, with Conor McGregor throwing a kick at Khabib, a McGregor fan slapping a woman, and more McGregor fans just being all-out buffoons.

Drake caused a commotion of a calmer kind when he joined McGregor onstage. The rap game’s biggest star is clearly a part of Team McGregor. He even wore an Irish flag to show his loyalty:

Drake even took time to laugh it up with McGregor and his family backstage:

Hans Molenkamp posted an up-close video of Drake and McGregor at the weigh-in on Instagram:

And of course, the UFC didn’t waste the opportunity to promote the sports/music crossover:
