Fans got a bit of bad news about a highly-anticipated middleweight bout between Jack Hermansson and Edmen Shahbazyan scheduled for UFC 262 this Saturday.

The fight has been pushed back one week for an undisclosed reason after Shahbazyan alluded to the news on his Twitter page on Monday.

“I guess we wait another week… May 22 here we come! Back to Vegas!” Shahbazyan tweeted.

The bout will be reportedly moved to UFC Vegas 27 on May 22nd, which includes the bantamweight main event between Cody Garbrandt and Rob Font. It’s unclear just yet where exactly the new middleweight bout addition will be slated on the card, but it’s sure to boost the interest of fans for yet another stacked UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas.

Both Hermansson and Shahbazyan come into the fight with plenty to prove. Hermansson is coming off a tough short-notice loss to Marvin Vettori at UFC Vegas 16, while Shahbazyan hasn’t competed since falling to Derek Brunson in the main event at UFC Vegas 5.

In a recent interview with LowKickMMA, Hermansson spoke about the matchup with Shahbazyan and how excited he was to prove a point in the UFC’s stacked middleweight division.

“He’s a good opponent and a great standup fighter,” Hermansson said. “He’s a good challenge, but on the other hand I believe my style is a good matchup against him. I feel ready to fight.”

For the 23-year-old Shahbazyan, he’ll enter the delayed fight as one of the long-regarded top middleweight prospects in the UFC. He had been on a four-fight winning streak to start his UFC career before the loss to Brunson.

While the news is surely upsetting for both sides of the bout, the anticipation for a very important middleweight fight between Hermansson and Shahbazyan will go unchanged.

How do you feel about Jack Hermansson vs. Edmen Shahbazyan getting pushed back a week after UFC 262? What are your predictions for the fight?

Jack Hermansson believes he remains the biggest threat to the middleweight champion.

Hermansson is coming off a tough decision loss to short notice replacement Marvin Vettori. It was the second loss in the past three fight for the Swedish middleweight contender. He hopes to get things back on track when he faces Edman Shahbazyan at UFC 262 on May 15.

Despite his recent stretch, Hermansson still believes he matches up well against middleweight king Israel Adesanya. Speaking to Curtis Calhoun for LowKick MMA, Hermansson spoke about the potential matchup and the holes he says have been exposed in Adesanya’s game.

“I think that I’m probably the hardest matchup for him out there,” Hermansson said of the titleholder. “I believe that me and probably Chris Weidman… he’s a similar style as myself. I think I have a little bit more of a devastating ground and pound, he probably has a little bit of better wrestling, but I think myself and Chris are the hardest matchups for Adesanya in this division.”

“I think Blachowicz showed us a little bit of that,” Hermansson continued. “That Adesanya’s bottom game maybe isn’t the best. If I end up on top of him, I think he’s in big trouble. I see myself as the hardest matchup for him in this division.”

Hermansson’s ground game has undoubtedly caused problems for his opposition in the past. Three of his past four wins have come by submission, with two of them coming by his patented guillotine. On paper, in certainly appears as though Hermansson does have to tools to cause the middleweight king trouble.

However, before any talk of a potential showdown against Adesanya can truly gain any traction, Hermansson first has to get by Shahbazyan. The Ronda Rousey/Edmond Tarverdyan protégé is coming off the first loss of his career, but had previously run up a perfect 11-0 start to his career with 10 first-round finishes. The winner of the fight will immediately be thrown back into title contention, while the loser will find themselves quickly losing their footing in a suddenly crowded middleweight division.

UFC Middleweight contender Kelvin Gastelum is itching to get back to the octagon to get his first win in the octagon since 2018 and cut his 3 fight losing streak. The 29-year-old took to Twitter to call out fellow Middleweight contender Edmen Shahbazyan.

Gastelum tweeted “Hope all is well during this pandemic @edmenshahbazyan . I’ve been waiting to sign a contract, and all we need is your signature. Thank you ? @AliAbdelaziz00 @Mickmaynard2 @danawhite @ufc”

It doesn’t seem that there is any bad blood between the two fighters, however both of them are coming off stoppage losses and are eager to get back into the win column. If this fight is made for later this year it would be Gastelum’s second fight of 2020 after he competed on UFC Fight Island 2 against fellow Middleweight contender Jack Hermansson, the fight ended disappointingly for Gastelum as he got caught in a heel hook in the very first round.

Shahbazyan on the other hand, got his first main event opportunity against Middleweight vet Derek Brunson in a three round fight at UFC Vegas 5. The 22 year old was handed his first loss in that fight where he got TKO’d in the third round and handed his first professional loss. Prior to that fight, Shahbazyan was undefeated in the UFC going 4-0 with 3 first round finishes.

Who do you think would win in this potential matchup between Kelvin Gastelum & Edmen Shahbazyan?
