Emil Meek’s Octagon debut was a memorable one Saturday night at UFC 206, as he spoiled the return of Jordan Mein.

Meek earned his shot in the UFC after a win over Rousimar Palhares in a regional promotion, but he had to wait to fight due to issues with his test results.

Mein came out of retirement for the fight in Toronto.

After being effectively banned from two major MMA organizations in the United States, disgraced former World Series of Fighting (WSOF) welterweight champion Rousimar Palhares looked to continue making money outside of the country when he met Michal Materla at today’s KSW 36 from CRS Hall in Zielona Gora, Lubusz, Poland.

However, it didn’t turn out so well for the opponent-endangering grappling whiz, who was banned from the UFC after cranking a heel hook against Mike Pierce before being suspended and stripped of the belt by WSOF after he gouged Jake Shields’ eyes and held on to a fight-ending kimura for too long at WSOF 22.

Palhares took on Materla just over four months after losing by brutal first round knockout to Emil Weber Meek, and it looks like he could have used some more time off. Materla floored him with a massive uppercut 1:27 into the second round.

Emil Meek, UFC Issue Statements Regarding Meek’s Octagon Debut Being Delayed

In addition to UFC’s official statement on the matter, Emil Meek himself released a detailed statement explaining why his Octagon debut was delayed over medication issues.

For those who missed it, you can read UFC’s official statement on the subject by clicking here.

Courtesy of his official Facebook page, below is Meek’s statement on the matter.

Dear Valhalla Army….

It is with an heavy heart and axe I write this.
Due to medical reasons as stated in the UFC press release below, my entrance to the UFC cage is postponed for later this year.

For all my friends and supporters in the ‪#‎ValhallaArmy‬ who has bought tickets to the fight in Hamburg – I’m truly sorry. I am devastated, but be sure… I am coming to Hamburg to watch the tournament with you, and we are gonna make it an epic night, not soon forgotten.

I got signed up for the debut fight before my enrollment in the UFC was complete.
Going from Venator to UFC involves a way stricter regiment as to what kind of medication I’m allowed to use.
We have decided it was not worth the risk. The result was pulling out of my upcoming fight in Hamburg. It changes nothing when it comes to my relationship with UFC, other than that my debut in the Octagon will be pushed to around December.

Let me stress that I have not failed any drug test whatsoever! This is merely a preliminary precaution.
I’ve been enrolled with USADA’s registered testing pool to prepare since for my bout since June. As a fighter I’m happy and personally, I feel safer to compete under the USADA’s anti-doping policy.

I feel sorry for Jessin Ayari, I hope we can fight another day!

UFC Removes Emil Meek From Fight Night 93 Card

Emil Weber Meek

The UFC has removed Emil Meek from UFC Fight Night 93 after the fighter admitted to a medical treatment that could keep him out of compliance with the USADA.

Meek, who finished Rousimar Palhares for Venator in Italy recently, was set to make his Octagon debut on the UFC Fight Pass card. The promotion plans to give him time to get enrolled in the USADA “registered testing pool” before putting him on a future card.

Below is the complete press release:

“As part of the athlete onboarding process, Emil Meek voluntarily disclosed medical treatment he received prior to signing with UFC that is potentially out of compliance with UFC’s Anti-Doping Policy. As a result, Meek will not compete in his previously scheduled bout on September 3, 2016 in Hamburg, Germany in order to allow him time to consult with his physician and evaluate his medical treatment.

“Given Meek’s medical treatment occurred before his signing with UFC, he is not subject to any potential anti-doping violations under the policy relating to that treatment. However, UFC is requiring Meek to be enrolled in USADA’s registered testing pool for a period of four months before he is placed on a fight card in the future.”

UFC Congratulates Emil Meek For Destroying Rousimar Palhares

An unlikely hero arose from the aftermath of Venator FC 3 last weekend (May 21, 2016) in the form of Nordic warrior Emil Weber Meek. Facing notorious scumbag Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ace Rousimar Palhares in the main event of the Italian MMA card, Meek came in facing stacked odds and also the danger of losing a limb. Known for his string of offences in mixed martial arts, including holding submission too long and attempting to remove Jake Shields’ eyes, Palhares is a daunting task to say the least, but Meek actually called Venator officials and asked for the fight.

MMA: UFC Fight Night-Palhares vs Pierce

The promotion was apparently having trouble signing anyone to fight the notorious BJJ submission artist, but when it came to fight night, ‘Valhalla’ had no problems dispatching the UFC veteran and former World Series of Fighting welterweight champion. MMAFighting.com had the interview with Meek after his awesome win:

“Yeah, that’s right. I heard from my friend Jack Hermansson that they were having trouble finding an opponent for him, and everybody is turning it down, and they try to buy opponents for him and everything. And I’m just like, ‘okay, this is a great opportunity, and I need to get on that right away.’

“So, I just jumped on it. I called Frank, the president, and asked, like, I really want to fight, and if they would let me, because he is a lot more experienced and has competed on a higher level. So, I wasn’t sure if he would take the fight or not. But, they asked Palhares’ camp, and they said yes. So, the fight was on all of a sudden.”

“You know, the fun thing about fighting Palhares is that everybody wanted me to win,” said Meek. “I don’t think that everybody thought I would win… The thing [is] that everybody was rooting for me, and I really appreciate that… So, yeah, I really wanted to beat him, and I believe in my heart that I could do it. I would never ask for a fight if I wouldn’t believe that I would actually have a chance to win.

“And yeah, you know, I didn’t want to hurt him for all the fighters that he’s hurt. It’s not like that. But if he would have hurt me, I would have a different opinion about that, but I stopped the fight when the fight was over. I wasn’t like, ‘Okay, he’s going to get three extra punches because he hurt somebody else,’ but I guess that would be fair though.”

So Meek had his way with ‘Toquinho’ with relative ease, and he’s caught the attention of all the major players. The 8-2 Norwegian says Joe Silva of the UFC emailed him and congratulated him on the win over ‘Paul Harris.’
