Bethe Correia and Evan Dunham are the latest names to be released by the UFC.

The news was confirmed by MMA Fighting on Wednesday as they cited UFC officials.

Correia, Dunham Released Following Losing Runs

Correia joined the UFC in 2013 as an undefeated women’s bantamweight and enjoyed three wins in a row over the likes of Julia Kedzie, Jessamyn Duke and Shayna Bazler.

That winning run earned her a shot at Ronda Rousey’s 135-pound title only to result in her suffering her first professional loss following a first-round knockout.

The Brazilian would go on to win just twice in her next seven outings with her most recent performance being a unanimous decision defeat to Sweden’s Pannie Kianzad last month. She has also lost three of her last four outings.

Dunham, meanwhile, last competed at UFC 250 in June where he suffered a first-round submission defeat to Herbert Burns. That setback put him on a three-fight losing streak with his last win coming in September 2016 when he outpointed Rick Glenn.

The 38-year-old had been competing for the Las Vegas-based promotion since 2009 and would compile an overall record of 11-9 with one no contest in the UFC.

It was a card full of retiring veterans at this evening’s (Sat., September 22, 2018) UFC Fight Night 137 at Ginásio do Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil.

After Brazilian middleweight Thales Leites retired after defeating Hector Lombard earlier at the event, lightweight Evan Dunham met Francisco Trinaldo on the FOX Sports 2-aired prelims. Things didn’t go quite as well for Dunham, however.

The fight was an entertaining one. Both fighters had their moments, with Dunham mixing more footwork while Trinaldo looked to counter with heavy shots. “Massaranduba” appeared to be headhunting with several huge kick attempts as well. Dunham was resilient and was landing more shots overall.

The longtime Brazilian veteran had a noted advantage in power, on the other hand. He used it to land a perfect knee to Dunham’s liver. The strike forced referee Marc Goddard to call it immediately. Watch the impressive knockout right here:

Dunham retired after the fight, stepping down with the pure grace and class he’s exhibited throughout his entire UFC career. He received a ton of respect on social media because of just that. Watch him thank the crowd one last time as he gave a heartfelt farewell to the Brazilian fans:

Dunham steps down with an 11-8-1 record in the Octagon, therefore crediting Joe Lauzon, Gleison Tibau, Ross Pearson, Tyson Griffin, and Nik Lentz among his biggest wins. He fought top lightweights Rafael dos Anjos, Donald Cerrone, and Edson Barboza.

He was a veteran of an amazing 20 fights in the notoriously tough UFC lightweight division. We wish Dunham all the best in his post-fighting endeavors.

Evan Dunham Calls Out UFC For Not Paying His Ambulance Bill

Dunham is clearly frustrated over it and decided to lash out.

Evan Dunham calls out UFC officials following them failing to pay his ambulance bill that happened over two fights ago. Obviously, Dunham is on the last leg of his successful pro-MMA career and considered one of the more respectable fighters in the history of the UFC as he’s an iron man.

Fight fans would have to go all the way back to UFC 95 to see that he made his promotional debut with the Las Vegas-based company as he scored a KO win over Per Eklund. Since then, he has competed in 19 fights under the UFC banner against some of the best competition over the last decade.

Thus, when he lashed out against the promotion due to a financial issue, it made some fight fans a bit curious. His last fight didn’t go his way as he suffered his TKO loss to Olivier Aubin-Mercier at UFC 223. He recently took to his official Twitter to claim that the UFC failed to process his ambulance bill. It should be noted that he since deleted the tweet. He wrote the following:

“Dealing with collections right now ufc never paid my ambulance bill from two fights ago. Even though I sent the bill in multiple times to whoever is suppose to be handling it. #ufc”

Dunham is slated to take on Francisco Trinaldo at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 137 (also known as UFC Sao Paulo) event, which is set to take place on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Ginásio do Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil. This will mark his retirement fight.

The main card will air on FOX Sports 1 while the preliminary card will be split broadcasted on FOX Sports 1 and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.
