The former UFC heavyweight champion and current free agent Fabricio Werdum has revealed he is now eyeing a contract with PFL after talks to join the Bellator roster ended.

Werdum was last seen in action at UFC on ESPN 14 in July. The Brazilian legend picked up a quick submission win over Alexander Gustafsson who was making his heavyweight debut.

Post fight he opted against extending his contract with the UFC and began plotting a rematch with Fedor Emelianenko under the Bellator banner. The deal seemed to be close to done but unfortunately, it has now fallen apart.

“It didn’t happen that I closed with them because Bellator wanted to do the rematch with Fedor Emelianenko in my first fight with them,” Werdum told Brazilian outlet Combate. “I respect Fedor a lot, I can’t say that he didn’t want to fight, but there was no negotiation with Fedor, on his part he didn’t have to have this first fight. Bellator wanted this to be my first fight to have that impact already, and then close four or five more fights as a contract.”

Werdum went on to reveal his manager, Ali Abdelaziz is currently in talks with the Professional Fighter’s League with the view to partaking in one of their million dollar tournaments.

“I am also aware that (manager) Ali Abdelaziz is talking to the PFL, and it may be that I will enter this championship,” Werdum said. “I don’t know if it is very well known in Brazil, but it is like a championship, you enter and make four fights, you win these four fights you are the champion and you win the prize of one million dollars, plus your purse, so that interested me a lot.” (Transcribed by MMA Mania)

Conor McGregor & Fabricio Werdum Argue About Bellator Drug Testing

Former dual weight UFC champion Conor McGregor has had a heated online argument with heavyweight legend Fabricio Werdum about Bellator’s lack of drug testing.

McGregor posted out yesterday urging the promotion to adopt proper drug testing procedures like the UFC. The Irishman who is often divisive seemed to be making a pretty fair point that the vast majority of people could get behind.

However, he found an unlikely foe in Werdum who seemed to think ‘Notorious’ was taking shots at Bellator featherweight champion ‘Cyborg’.

“Losers always will try to find excuses,” Werdum wrote on social media. “Champions work very hard and don’t distracted by ants. @CyborgsGloves Is a living legend McGregor is filha-da-puta HEY”

McGregor responded but seem perplexed by Werdum who brought up the WMMA great out of nowhere – he tried to get back to the point at hand.

“Huh? I did not mention Cris whatsoever. Nothing to do with Cris at all. It is a request to the promotion, as a top tier one, to up its PED testing program. As currently there is zero in place. This is a dangerous business and to take a lax stance here, at this level, is wrong.”

The 32-year-old then seemed to click as to why the Werdum had such strong feelings about Bellator’s inept drug testing procedures.

“Actually wait! Aren’t you currently banned for steroids right now? And got your sentenced reduced for ratting other people? And also just recently signed to this promotion I speak of? Woah. Man, fuck you. My lord, what a business this is,” McGregor wrote on social media.

Werdum continued under the impression that McGregor was tweeting in defence of Sinead Kavanagh who was “beat up” by ‘Cyborg’, despite the fact the two female fighters have never squared off inside the cage.

“The funny thing is it was cause a girl 145 that trains at your gym Sinaed Kavanagh posted a tweet about testing following Cyborg Beating her up Why are you backtrack now,” Werdum replied.

McGregor was perplexed by Werdum’s continued suggestion that Kavanagh and ‘Cyborg’ had fought and tried to get back to the point at hand once again, he wrote.

“They never fought, McGregor said. “I train Sinead. I manage Cris. Both tremendously gifted warriors. This is not about either! Or any of the roster for that matter. It is about the promotion itself stepping up to the plate, as one of the top tier organisations in MMA, and upping its testing.”

Werdum ended the conversation by saying someone with McGregor’s track record should not concern himself with Bellator drug testing, he wrote.

“An alcoholic and a Coke head should not worry about testing anything @ScottCoker always do a good job”

The Brazilian submission specialist continued to tweet at McGregor without response throughout the night. Head over to his Twitter page to see what else Werdum had to say about ‘Mystic Mac’.

Do you agree with Conor McGregor? Should Bellator begin drug testing their fighters?

Fabricio Werdum has revealed he is edging closer to a rematch with MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko.

The former UFC heavyweight champion, Werdum snapped a two-fight losing skid by submitting Alexander Gustafsson at UFC Fight Island 3 earlier this year before deciding to leave the promotion to explore free agency.

Immediately after his release from the UFC Werdum spoke with excitement about rematching the Russian under the Bellator banner. The Brazilian submission specialist previously submitted Emelianenko in 69 seconds at a Strikeforce show back in 2010.

In an interview with Canal Encarada, Werdum revealed a fight with Emelianenko is creeping closer although nothing is official yet, he said.

“(The talks) really are advanced. Ali went there last week, had the talk, and now it’s a matter of Fedor accepting. And he said the other day in an interview that he wanted to do this rematch as well. Since I have a huge respect for Fedor, I’d definitely give him a rematch — not only for that, but also the financial side, the promotion, the whole history we had.”

Werdum has great respect for his heavyweight rival but believes a rematch between the pair will go pretty much the same way the original match-up did 10 years ago.

“In my opinion, I still think Fedor is the greatest of all time, you have to respect the man,” Werdum said. “He’s done a lot of things for 10 years, he beat the best, so I think it would be a fight that everybody would like to see in Bellator, a superfight, a main event. I think it would sell a lot.

“If Fedor accepts, if he really wants to fight me one more time for this rematch… And, with all due respect, I firmly believe I will submit him again. I have no doubt. It’s not me being cocky, it’s the reality. That’s what I imagine. It will be a tough, of course. People think the other fight was easy, but how about the one before? Fighting Fedor, the expectation, nobody believing in me, everybody against me and chanting ‘The Emperor’ in the arena. It was tough, of course, because of everything that surrounded it.”

“And who knows, I don’t know if it could be the last one,” Werdum said. “When Fedor retires, I retire, we have a tequila together and it’s over, you know? [Laughs] I don’t know if it could happen.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Currently testing free-agency, former UFC heavyweight titleholder, Fabrício ‘Vai Cavalo’ Werdum has expressed his interest in a potential divisional ‘superfight’ with former two-time 205-pound best, Jon ‘Bones’ Jones.

The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu player announced his intentions to test free agency following his return to the win-column opposite multiple-time title challenger, Alexander ‘The Mauler’ Gustafsson at a UFC Fight Night event on ‘Fight Island’ in July. Werdum had made his first Octagon outing since UFC Fight Night Jacksonville in May – in a split judging loss to Aleksei Oleinik. The May return followed a ten-month USADA suspension.

Recently floating the idea of rematches with both Fedor Emelianenko under the Bellator banner, and former opponent, Brandon Vera which would see him link up with ONE Championship in  Singapore – the Porto Alegre native has now predicted he’d stop Jones, in an interview with MMA Junkie reporter, John Morgan – if the two ever clashed at heavyweight.

You know, he’s a big guy – and Jon Jones should have zero problems to go to the heavyweight division,” Werdum explained. “For sure, it’s not happening now, but maybe, I love the idea, one day against Jon Jones. And, it’s not like I prep for him, I’m just confident. One-hundred per cent I finish Jon Jones. I finish Jon Jones too. One-hundred per cent. I’m confident, that’s it. I’m training – good training, my mind’s okay. I finish him and anyone. One-hundred per cent I believe that.” (H/T BJPENN.com)

Jackson-Wink MMA mainstay, Jones recently announced his intentions to test heavyweight waters – vacating his 205-pound championship to boot. That now vacant crown, is set to be decided at UFC 253 on September 26th. – with recent challenger, Dominick Reyes meeting with former KSW gold holder, Jan B?achowicz

2nd. degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and Kings MMA staple, Werdum has notched high-profile career victories over the aforenoted, Fedor Emelianenko, and his younger brother, Alexander, as well as compatriot, Gabriel Gonzaga, decorated Dutch kickboxer, Alistair Overeem, ‘Bigfoot’ Silva, Mark Hunt, and in a title unification clash, stopped Cain Velasquez via third-round guillotine at UFC 188.

How do you think a heavyweight ‘superfight’ between Werdum and Jones would go down?
