When it comes agreeing on money, Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather are far apart. Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White recently offered both men $25 million to compete in a boxing match. Mayweather laughed off the idea.
White responded to Mayweather’s brushoff (via TMZ Sports):
“We all know $25 million isn’t peanuts and so does he. He’s hanging his watch out the window, his watch is the problem. When you’re wearing a watch that’s $250,000, you’re gonna need 25 million real quick pal. And hey Floyd, taxes are coming up too buddy.”
Another issue White has with Mayweather is his self-perception. He doesn’t believe that Mayweather is valued more than “Notorious.”
“First of all, Floyd thinks he’s so much bigger than Conor, he’s wrong. Listen, Floyd’s gone undefeated for 20 years, I give him all the credit in the world for doing that, but Conor’s been around for three or four years. For him to think that he’s a much bigger star than Conor isn’t true. I’m not gonna pay him way more money than I’m gonna pay my guy.”
Mayweather claimed that he offered McGregor $15 million plus pay-per-view points to meet him in a boxing ring. White denies that claim and says there was only one legitimate offer.
“Floyd said that he made an offer … he never made an offer. It’s not true. I made an offer, okay. So if you’re serious, there’s a real offer. Where do we go from here Floyd?”
While McGregor and Mayweather keep entertaining a boxing fight, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson will go toe-to-toe for the interim UFC lightweight title on March 4. The winner of that bout will likely meet McGregor in a unification bout later this year. “The Eagle” and “El Cucuy” will be featured as the co-main event of UFC 209 inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will be holding its first event of 2017 tomorrow night (Jan. 15) inside the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. The fights will begin on UFC Fight Pass at 6 p.m. ET. The action will transition to FOX Sports 1 (FS1) at 8 p.m. for the rest of the prelims. The main card begins at 10 p.m. ET and will also air on FS1.
Early this morning, the fighters on the card tipped the scales. Everyone on the card made weight. The fighters later engaged in staredowns for the ceremonial weigh-ins.
UFC Fight Night Phoenix will be headlined by a featherweight tilt between UFC Hall of Famer B.J. Penn and rising prospect Yair Rodriguez. “The Prodigy” is 0-3-1 in his last four bouts and is coming out of retirement. Rodriguez is looking to extend his winning streak to eight.
The co-main event will feature a lightweight clash between 38-fight veteran Joe Lauzon and former Bellator title challenger Marcin Held. Lauzon will want to rebound from his loss to Jim Miller back in August, while Held is in search of his first UFC win.
Also on the card will be Ben Saunders, who is returning after a brief departure from the UFC. He’ll be going toe-to-toe with The Ultimate Fighter season 11 winner, Court McGee.

The back-and-forth banter between future boxing Hall of Famer Floyd Mayweather and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight title holder Conor McGregor has not ended. Mayweather told ESPN that an offer was on the table for “Notorious:”
“We tried to make the Conor McGregor fight. They know what my number is. My number is a guaranteed $100 million. That was my number. We are willing to give him $15 million and then we can talk about splitting the percentage — the back end — on the pay-per-view. But of course, we’re the ‘A side.’ How can a guy talk about making 20 or 30 million if he has never made 8 or 9 million in a fight.”
Late last year, McGregor was issued his boxing license in the state of California. Mayweather is not impressed.
“You guys keep hearing all these different rumors about different fighters want to face Floyd Mayweather. Everybody keeps talking about Conor McGregor. He’s blowing smoke up everybody’s a–. Dana White, the UFC — let’s make it happen. Bring him over to the boxing world, and I’ll show him what it’s like.”
Mayweather is currently retired from the sport of boxing, but he is interested in the McGregor fight. In fact, “Money” says that’s the only fight that he has his sights set on.
“Only thing I’m probably interested in is the Conor McGregor fight. I’m a businessman, and it makes business sense. I believe in what me and [adviser] Al Haymon talk about every day — I believe in working smarter, not harder.”
Mayweather had the sports world buzzing when he put up an unofficial poster teasing a bout with McGregor. “Notorious” hasn’t minced words when it comes to firing shots at “Money.” McGregor has told Mayweather, “I run boxing.” and that he wants no less than $100 million to step inside the ring with him.
Of course, Mayweather hasn’t been eager about dipping a toe inside the Octagon.
