Next week (Sat. January 18, 2020) Conor McGregor will make his return to the Octagon, however, it appears he’ll be without the services of Dillon Danis in his corner.

Danis has been a regular in the McGregor corner since his second fight with Nate Diaz back in 2016. However, after what happened last time Danis was in McGregor’s corner in 2018, it looks like things are about to change. Danis was attacked by UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, who had just submitted McGregor in the fourth round of their UFC 229 main event, after Danis allegedly yelled a racial slur at him.

For his involvement in the incident, Danis was fined $7,500. However, per a report from Yahoo! Sports’ Kevin Iole, Danis has yet to pay that fine, and as a result, is barred from cornering McGregor next week.

“According to Bob Bennett, @dillondanis owes state of Nevada, NOT the athletic commission, $7,500 from his punishment in the #McGregorKhabib brawl at #UFC229. He will not be allowed to work @TheNotoriousMMA‘s corner at #UFC246 until he pays the fine.”

Danis recently recounted the incident in a recent interview, in which he claims, despite Nurmagomedov jumping after him, the Russian champ never connected on any shots.

“No, he didn’t connect,” Danis said. “You know what’s funny, when he jumped over the thing, and he had his feet and his arms up, so like, he didn’t really know what he was going to hit me with. So I was like, am I going to get kicked right now or punched? I kind of just blocked then I hit him with a right hand, and then I remember him coming forward, and I was uppercutting him, and then he was just trying to run away, and I was trying to grab his head.

“It was just a whole mayhem and then everybody was getting punched, and cops were going all over the place, and … he didn’t touch me at all. I remember hitting him with a good amount of shots, and then I just remember him trying to pull away and run away from me, and I was trying to cup his head and uppercut him. But it was mayhem. Everything happened so fast.”

What do you think about Danis being banned from cornering McGregor next week?

Conor McGregor and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone will headline UFC 246 on pay-per-view (PPV) later this month (Sat. January 18, 2020).

The pair are well-known for their preference to keep a fight standing, and many fans are expecting exactly that when they clash later this month. However, many feel a quick way to victory for Cerrone could be taking the fight to the ground and using his jiu-jitsu skills. With that being said, Cerrone has made it clear he intends to stand with McGregor during their main event.

Now, McGregor has taken to Instagram to challenge Cerrone, daring “Cowboy” not to shoot in on him during the fight.

It has been interesting to see that the leadup to the bout hasn’t featured a whole lot of trash-talking, which is the norm for a McGregor contest. However, in a recent interview, McGregor shed some light on that decision, explaining why he actually appreciates his adversary.

“Well, I said I’d fight him right? Me and Donald have had a history, a long history – well not a long history, but we’ve had a history. It’s an exciting bout, it’s a fan-friendly bout, it’s a fight that excites me, and it’s a fight that I said I’d partake – I appreciate Donald I have to say.

“He’s fought a lot of times, and since the last time I saw him – I saw him at that Aldo press conference many many years ago – he’s gone on and fought so many times. He’s also a family man with his grandmother – I appreciate that and I respect that. I also respect the method he went about with the Proper Whiskey and, you know, so much work goes into these things. To see that bit of respect, I appreciate that. I look forward to having a good bout,” McGregor said.

“I’m happy to come back and have my comeback fight and the beginning of my season against Donald. And I look forward to it, it’s going to be a good night, and I’m going to shine here on January 18. I’m going to create magic, like I have many times before. But this is going to be something special.”

Conor McGregor is no stranger to big paydays for his services. However, he’s set to make his biggest yet when he returns at UFC 246 to face Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.

According to a report from Essentially Sports, McGregor will make a salary of $5,000,000 for his fight with Cerrone. Of course, that number does not include his Reebok fighter payout, pay-per-view (PPV) points, or any potential post-fight bonuses. This is quite the raise from McGregor’s previous $3,000,000 salary, which he made for his losing effort against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in October of 2018.

As for “Cowboy,” he’ll bank a $2,000,000 payday. The leadup to the fight has been rather uncharacteristic for a McGregor bout. Usually, McGregor likes to talk trash to his opponents, however, in a recent interview, the Irishman explains why he actually appreciates Cerrone.

Conor McGregor is taking a very different approach to things in his fight with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 246.

The bout goes down on pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although McGregor usually tries to trash talk his opponents before a fight, this time, “Notorious” is taking a more respectful approach. Speaking to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani in a recent interview, McGregor admits he appreciates Cerrone for how he handled the build-up to the fight.

I’m going to create magic, like I have many times before. But this is going to be something special.”

McGregor and Cerrone’s fight will take place at 170 pounds despite the fact that the Irishman is still chasing gold at lightweight. As for why McGregor opted to fight Cerrone at welterweight rather than lightweight, McGregor noted that it’s because he doesn’t like the way “Cowboy” looks at 155 pounds.

“I just don’t think he looks well at 155. He’s a 170 fighter. Why would I want someone to suffer? I could beat him if he fought – I’d beat him any bleedin’ – I’d beat him at any weight. I’d beat him any – you know what I mean? I’d beat him if I had the flu. So I don’t need that. I just want to focus on my training. I don’t have to cut, and then build, and then cut.

“I’m happy where I’m at. And also, 170 is an exciting one for me. I like 170, I like what’s going on in the 170 division at the minute. You got Jorge with that belt, you got the other guys fighting for the belt. I like all what’s going on at 170. I feel good at 170, I feel energetic, it’s what I weigh, and that’s it. It opens up so many more options, right?”
