Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson has been talking up his fight with heavyweight legend Fedor Emelianenko. The pair will square off in the main event of Bellator 237 which takes places at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan on Saturday night (Sunday locally).
The former UFC light-heavyweight champion told media he believes his fight with Fedor is a ‘special moment’ for the sport and despite being past their peak, both he and his opponent are ready to put on a show. Speaking to MMA Junkie, he said.
“This is a special moment in MMA history
no matter what the naysayers say. The guys who are never going to do anything
in their lives, the never-has-beens who want to say about two old guys getting
in there – the true MMA fans are going to win because there’s not going to
be a loser. There’s not going to be a loser. No matter who gets their hand
raised, there’s not going to be a loser because when two legends get in there,
and do what they love, and put on a show, the fans win.”
‘Rampage’ has admitted he found it
difficult to prepare for Fedor due to his deep respect for the PRIDE legend but
insists it’ll be all business come fight night.
“It’s been kind of hard for me to mentally prepare and get ready for this fight because you guys know how I like to knock people out, my team’s like, ‘Oh, you got to knock him out, you got to knock him out,’ and me being a big fan of Fedor, I’m thinking that’s the last thing he needs is to get knocked out right away and stuff like that, but none of that matters because when I get in that cage, ‘Rampage’ don’t have no friends. I don’t even like that motherf*cker. Nobody likes ‘Rampage,’ ‘Rampage’ don’t like nobody, so it don’t matter.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Bellator’s first-ever event in Japan on December 29 will feature a throwback heavyweight encounter between Fedor Emelianenko and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
The news was announced by the promotion in a press conference in Japan on Wednesday.
Emelianenko has not competed since his knockout defeat to Ryan Bader in the finals of Bellator’s heavyweight grand prix earlier this year. However, his return to action will now see him return to Japan where he made his name in mixed martial arts.
“Nineteen years ago, I fought my first fight in Japan and ever since I have fallen in love with this country,” Emelianenko said (via MMA Fighting). “I’m very happy to return and fight in Japan in front of the most unique atmosphere that I’ve ever experienced.
“I’m very happy to be able to do so with my opponent—a friend and a fight comrade who I fought side to side with in the same time. I’m very excited to be able to put on a great fight. I will work hard and do my best to put on a beautiful performance for all of the Japanese fans.”
Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jackson — who last enjoyed a knockout win over Wanderlei Silva in September last year — has also had his fair share of competing in Japan and can’t wait to return there again:
“I don’t know if you guys know, but Fedor is and has been for a long time my favorite fighter,” Jackson said. “It’s strange to have to fight someone that you look up to and that you admire so much, but I love fighting in Japan so I just wanted to come back here and fight. I’ll fight anyone they tell me too if they tell me that I’m fighting in Japan.”
The event will take place in Saitama. According to Bellator president Scott Coker, he also plans on bringing three Bellator fighters to face three RIZIN fighters in challenger matches.

There’s no doubt that Fedor Emelianenko is one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time. Currently, “The Last Emperor” is under contract with Bellator MMA. His next bout is being targeted for Japan against Quionton “Rampage” Jackson.
However, at 43-years-old and competing at heavyweight, Fedor’s career is winding down. According to Bellator MMA president Scott Coker, who spoke to RT Sport recently, a fight for Emelianenko in Russia is certainly in the cards. In fact, that’s where Coker wants Fedor to end his MMA career for his final fight.
“Fighting in Russia is definitely something we’d like to have happen,” Coker said. “We think Fedor will be a great fighter, obviously because of his history, to launch us in the territory.
“I think Fedor will fight a couple of times before we go to Russia. We’re working on a fight hopefully to have him fighting in Japan before the end of the year, and that’s what we’re working on. It’s not signed yet, by any means – it’s not done yet. I’ll see Fedor in Milan in two weeks and we’ll have a discussion, but we’re getting close.”
Coker notes that the plan is to have Fedor fight only a few more times before finally ending his career in front of a native Russian crowd.
“I think the plan was to have Fedor fight two times, and then go to Russia,” Coker said. “And I think this will probably be his final match. This’ll be the retirement fight. So, if people want to see Fedor, the greatest fighter in the history of MMA, especially the greatest heavyweight of all time, they’ve got to come to the fight and see him live.
“But we’re talking years away, probably. Or a year away, or two years away – who knows? But we’re definitely working on his first fight, which will be done here soon.”
