Bringing you the weird and wild from the world of MMA each and every weeknight!

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Top-ranked Bantamweights are heading to Abu Dhabi! According to a first report from Ag. Fight and confirmed by MMA Fighting, Marlon Vera vs. Deiveson Figueiredo is verbally agreed as part of the upcoming UFC Abu Dhabi event, which is scheduled for August 3 inside Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Vera is currently ranked No. 4 at 135-pounds. “Chito” was last seen in the Octagon opposite Sean O’Malley, who used him as a punching bag for most of five rounds. Prior to that defeat, Vera won five of his previous six to establish himself as a top-tier Bantamweight, though Cory Sandhagen did also dominate the Ecuadorian talent in the midst of his rise.

Meanwhile, Figueiredo is chasing gold in a second weight class. The Brazilian’s Flyweight title reign ended with a back-and-forth rivalry opposite Brandon Moreno, but he’s been perfect since moving up to Bantamweight. “Daico” beat up Rob Font then stopped Cody Garbrandt at UFC 300 (watch here), earning the No. 6 spot in the UFC rankings.

Two men enter the cage, but only one leaves as a Top Five-ranked contender relevant to the title mix. Who ya’ got?

Insomnia

Jon Jones is in constant verbal feud with the MMA fanbase over this whole not-fighting-the-interim champion thing.

Alex Pereira was actually taking it pretty easy until his partner tried to punch his way off the wall.

Paulo Costa is studying his opposition!

I don’t fully understand Alexander Volkov’s latest Instagram skit.

Get more limber with the help of Georges St. Pierre (and a stick).

Islam Makhachev’s UFC 302 fight camp is presumably about wrapped up, and the champ has surely earned some downtime.

Maybe my immaturity is showing, but I love a press conference shoving match.

Slips, rips, and KO clips

A massive face plant from the recent Road To UFC fights:

Gheirati almost chambered his knee before unrolling the push kick, and that angle caught his opponent off-guard.

It won’t happen, but Kyoji Horiguchi getting a second chance at a UFC title would be so cool. His name would go so far in avoiding the constant Flyweight rematches …

It’s never a good idea to ask your favorite fighter to punch you in the stomach, especially if that fighter is boxing great Canelo Alvarez.

Over the years, fight fans have ran into some of the most prolific athletes in combat sports and wanted to feel what it’s like to be hit by a trained professional. This includes the likes of UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who nearly kicked a fan’s leg off, and former UFC middleweight king Sean Strickland, who sparred with a fan while snowboarding.

Earlier this week, it was Canelo’s turn to test his luck against his own fanbase. That’s because one of Alvarez’s supporters came up to him at what appears to be a party or celebration of some kind and asked for the super middleweight champion’s best shot. Unlike some fighters who tone it down when encountering overzealous fans, Canelo doesn’t seem to hold anything back. The boxing legend uncorked a ferocious body shot before turning around and walking away like he has no care in the world.

It was a pretty nasty shot. Check it out below:

Alvarez, who turns 34 this July, is still one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in boxing today. The Mexican superstar has won his last four trips to the ring and is coming off a memorable decision win over the previously undefeated Jaime Munguia. Canelo has been fighting just about two times per year over the past five years so fight fans should expect him back in the ring by the end of 2024.

As for the body punch he delivered to this fan, would you be brave enough to take it?

Paige VanZant and Elle Brooke strip down for final face-off ahead of Misfits Boxing title fight on May 25

24 hours before their Misfits Boxing title fight, former UFC fighter turned BKFC brawler Paige VanZant and defending champion Elle Brooke stripped down for one final staredown.

Emanating from the NRG Arena in Houston, Texas, MF & DAZN: X Series 15 will feature a middleweight championship main event as Brooke, the reigning and defending titleholder, puts her belt on the line in Misfits’ first-ever female headliner.

Before the two blonde bombshells step inside the ring and make history in The Lone Star State, VanZant and Brooke stepped on the scale during Friday afternoon’s official weigh-in ceremony.

Competing under the Kingpyn and Misfits Boxing banners, Elle Brooke has amassed a solid 4-1 record, including her title-winning performance against Andrea-Jane Bunker in January. Thus far, all of Brooke’s boxing bouts have been exhibitions. Her scrap with VanZant will be the first professional fight of his career.

Paige VanZant vs. Elle Brooke

As for Paige VanZant, the social media sensation has a significant advantage over her opponent when it comes to experience. ’12 Gauge’ competed inside the Octagon from 2014 to 2020, earning victories over the likes of Felice Herrig, ‘Rowdy’ Bec Rawlings, and Rachael Ostovich.

Walking away from the promotion on a 1-3 skid, VanZant signed with the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, making her debut in 2021. Sadly, things did not improve for ’12 Gauge’ as she lost back-to-back fights inside the squared circle. Though she has expressed interest in knuckling up for a third and likely final time, she has not locked down an official return date.

In addition to Elle Brooke vs. Paige VanZant, fans will also see the return of former NFL running back Le’Veon Bell as he takes on Canadian influencer Tristan Hamm, best known for his first-round shellacking of Rodney Petersen Jr. AKA ‘Not Logan Paul.’

Also fighting in the card is a name ONE Championship fans may recognize — Bi Nguyen. Going by the moniker ‘Killer Bee,’ Nguyen is one of the most accomplished fighters competing at the event, having 15 mixed martial arts bouts under her belt. With more than a decade of experience, Nguyen has gone toe-to-toe with some of the biggest names in women’s MMA, such as Stamp Fairtex, Jihin Radzuan, Ritu Phogat, Jenelyn Olsim, and Lin Heqin.

Ian Garry has officially been booked for the biggest fight card of the year, as “Future” returns to fight fellow welterweight contender Michael Page at UFC 303 on June 29 from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. That card will be headlined by the return of Conor McGregor.

This fight news is according to UFC CEO Dana White, who released the below video post on Friday breaking Garry vs. Page and a few other juicy tidbits:

Garry, who has produced an undefeated record of 7-0 since joining UFC back in 2021, has been trying to lock down his next fight for months. Back in March, he made it very clear that he had no interest in fighting Page since he was ranked lower. Flash forward two months and Garry is calling out the former Bellator MMA star.

As expected, “Venom” gladly accepted and left UFC with no other option but to book the welterweight clash.

Page, 37, is one of the most respected strikers in all of mixed martial arts (MMA). The former Bellator welterweight standout made his official Octagon debut at UFC 299 this past March, defeating fan favorite Kevin Holland in a one-sided affair. It wasn’t the most entertaining UFC debut in recent memory, but it put Page’s offensive capabilities on full display. Watching “Venom” use his unique skillset against Garry should be fun to say the least.

Thoughts?

Conor McGregor to earn title fight with a win over Michael Chandler at UFC 303? Daniel Cormier thinks so

Conor McGregor will earn himself a title fight with a win over Michael Chandler.

That comes according to UFC Hall of Famer who delivered the hot take during a recent episode of his EPSN show Good Guy/Bad Guy alongside co-host Chael Sonnen. However, if McGregor comes up short during International Fight Week, ‘DC’ hopes to see him saddled with Tony Ferguson.

“If he gets through Michael Chandler, I say give him a title fight,” Cormier said. “Put him in there with [Dustin] Poirier or [Islam] Makhachev on Mexican Independence Day or some time soon thereafter. If he loses, put him in there with Tony Ferguson.

Tony Ferguson deserves to have that big platform the last time to see if he can go and do what he said he was going to do to Conor all of those times and so long ago.”

McGregor will step inside the Octagon for the first time in nearly three years on Saturday, June 29 when he headlines UFC 303 against the former Bellator MMA champion.

Conor McGregor

With their bout taking place at 170 pounds, it’s hard to imagine ‘Mystic Mac’ securing a lightweight title opportunity even with the most impressive of wins, but it certainly sounds like welterweight king Leon Edwards is down for a scrap with the former two-division champ, so there’s that.

Are we headed toward conor mcGregor vs. Dustin Poirier 4?

As far as the lightweight division goes, fans will see Islam Makhachev put the 155-pound strap on the line at UFC 302 when he meets three-time Conor McGregor opponent Dustin Poirier inside the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Poirier vs. Makhachev

Poirier is walking into his third shot at UFC gold with a do-or-die attitude, suggesting that it’s either win or go home against the ‘Dagestani Destroyer’ in The Garden State.

Who knows, maybe the stars will align and we’ll see both McGregor and Poirier walk away winners, setting the stage for a fourth meeting between the two MMA icons — even if Poirier insists that ship has sailed.
