Conor McGregor is back, and Floyd Mayweather has taken notice.

Last night (Sat. January 18, 2020) McGregor returned to the Octagon to headline UFC 246 on pay-per-view (PPV) against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at welterweight. After over a year away from MMA competition, McGregor only needed 40 seconds to put Cerrone away. Now, potential fights against Jorge Masvidal, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and more loom.

However, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has also thrown his name in the hat, taking to his Instagram page to tease a rematch with the Irishman in 2020. Here’s the post.

McGregor and Mayweather boxed each other back in 2017, where the Irishman made his professional boxing debut. “The Notorious” started off strong, but faded in the latter rounds where he was TKO’d in the 10th round. Since, he has gone 1-1 in MMA, losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov in October of 2018, and now defeating Cerrone to kick-off 2020. It will be interesting to see if the rematch comes to fruition this year.

What do you think about a potential rematch between Mayweather and McGregor?

Top-ranked UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal likely has a big 2020 ahead of him.

Masvidal has laid out several possibilities for what’s next for him. One of the more appealing options seems to be a boxing fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Mayweather has teased he will end his retirement in 2020. Initial reports suggest he’ll rematch Manny Pacquiao before fighting a UFC fighter in a crossover boxing fight.

“Gamebred” has teased he could cut down to 154 pounds to fight “Money” if he’s open to it. Now, in an interview with Sports Illustrated, Masvidal claims he has heard Mayweather is coming over to Zuffa Boxing, and he wants to fight a UFC star. The Floridian claims he’s the frontrunner to be Mayweather’s opponent, and he’s trying to seal the deal.

“Mayweather is coming over to Zuffa Boxing (which is owned by the UFC). [The promotion is] going to be looking for [a mixed martial artist] to fight him [in a boxing match] and it appears as if I’m the top candidate. That’s the fight we’re all looking to close,” Masvidal said.

Masvidal had a tremendous 2019 and is up for Fighter Of The Year. He started off with a second-round hellacious knockout win over Darren Till in England. Then, he pulled off the fastest knockout in UFC history, flattening Ben Askren in five seconds with a flying knee. Finally, he ended the year with a TKO win over Nate Diaz at UFC 244 due to a Doctor’s Stoppage.

It remains to be seen what’s next for Masvidal, but one thing is for sure, it will bank him some major cash.

Do you think Masvidal could actually box Mayweather in Zuffa Boxing?

It looks like Jorge Masvidal truly does want to try his hand in the boxing realm.

Shortly after his victory over Nate Diaz at UFC 244, Masvidal took the opportunity to call out boxing megastar and multi-weight world champion Canelo Alvarez. Now, however, Masvidal appears to be teasing interest in a fight with another one of boxing’s biggest stars – Floyd Mayweather.

“Money” recently announced he is unretiring from fighting in 2020. While he seeks a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, Mayweather is also interested in boxing a UFC star as well. Given how much Masvidal has shined in 2019, “Gamebred” could certainly be a candidate for the task. He took to Twitter recently to tease he could make the weight cut down to 154 pounds, which is the super welterweight division in boxing, also where Mayweather would likely compete in a comeback fight.

Yes it is true. I can make 154 #theresurrection

Mayweather and UFC president Dana White will likely be working together in 2020, as Mayweather has teased he wants to put on another spectacular event for fight fans alongside White in 2020 for his return. While he could mean a rematch with Conor McGregor, he could also look to take on a new challenge, where Masvidal might just swoop in and seize the opportunity.

Do you think Masvidal is teasing a cut down to 154 pounds to fight Mayweather?

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is ready to get back to boxing action, as he recently announced he’s coming out of retirement in 2020 to fight again.

Initial reports suggest Mayweather is eying a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, before a “UFC crossover” fight, which likely means he looks to box a UFC star. Speaking to FightHubTV, Floyd Mayweather Sr. noted that he usually talks to his son, but hasn’t heard anything on the matter from him yet. (H/T MMA Mania)

”We usually talk but I ain’t heard nothing from him,” Mayweather Sr. said. “It’s a big surprise to me.”

Mayweather Sr. then expresses his concern that his son might try and fight inside the UFC’s Octagon. He said he’d “whup” UFC president Dana White if he allowed Mayweather Jr. to fight inside the MMA cage.

”I don’t want … it ain’t the same,” Mayweather Sr. said. “It’s not the same, I’m just saying. You got things that Floyd can do, a lot of other things other than … and they said he was saying something about getting into that … what that thing called? [The Octagon].

“It better not be the MMA. You don’t think Floyd would take nothing like that?” Mayweather Sr. asked with a smile. “I don’t think he’d take it either because I’d go in there and whup Dana White’s ass! F**k yeah I will.

“I’d whup the s**t out of him. Even though Floyd is a grown man, I’d be the grown one that’d take over that. Sure will.”

Do you think there’s a chance Mayweather considers fighting in the UFC?

Floyd Mayweather is coming out of retirement. But it’s not just for one fight. The undefeated boxing legend has two high-profile bouts on his radar for 2020.

Mayweather announced this week that he’d be ending his retirement to come back to the boxing ring, teasing a massive event in conjunction with UFC president Dana White down the road. According to a report from TMZ Sports, Mayweather is eying a rematch with Manny Pacquiao.

The pair first met back in 2015, where Mayweather took a decision victory. Mayweather feels the time for a rematch between himself and his longtime rival is better than ever, as Pacquiao comes off a big win over Keith Thurman. Also, Pacquiao no longer works with Bob Arum, instead working with longtime Mayweather partner Al Haymon.

Mayweather would also like to fight a high-profile UFC star inside the boxing ring. Of course, a rematch with Conor McGregor from their 2017 fight – which Mayweather won via 10th round TKO – would make sense. Talk of a boxing match with UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has made the rounds this year as well.

As for when Mayweather wants to fight, “Money” is looking at May and September for his two return fights, back-to-back, with aspirations of fighting inside of the new Raiders stadium in Las Vegas.

What do you think about Mayweather’s plans for 2020?

It looks like UFC president Dana White and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be working on another project together in 2020, that will see Mayweather coming out of retirement yet again.

Both White and Mayweather were spotted sitting together at this week’s Boston Celtics vs. Los Angeles Clippers game. Mayweather took to his Instagram to post a photo of himself and White at the game, captioning it with a tease for a “spectacular” event in 2020.

@danawhite and I working together again to bring the world another spectacular event in 2020.”

Mayweather followed that up with a picture of himself in his boxing attire, captioning the photo with a revelation that he’ll end his retirement from boxing in 2020 as well.

The news presents a plethora of possibilities. With White looking to get Zuffa Boxing off to a hot start, the involvement of Mayweather could help greatly. Of course, the immediate assumption would be Mayweather running things back with Conor McGregor, who he fought and defeated in 2017 to extend his legendary undefeated record to 50-0.

However, it remains to be seen exactly what Mayweather and White’s plans are for 2020.

What do you think Mayweather is suggesting he and White are working on for 2020?
