Conor McGregor has predicted that he’ll finish Floyd Mayweather within four rounds when they meet on Aug. 26 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Team Mayweather, however, doesn’t seem to believe that the “Notorious” one will be able to fight for more than four rounds:

“We’re going to fight him,” Nate Jones, assistant trainer of Floyd Mayweather, told the Los Angeles Times. “… We know this is something new for him. So, Floyd’s going to turn the gas on early. We’re going to fight him. We don’t think he can go past four rounds. So we’ll burn the gas out of him (early), make it a tough fight for him, let him see some things he’s never … hit him with some good body shots.

“I don’t want to give the whole game plan, but we got some things different.”

In addition to pushing the pace, Jones expects Mayweather’s ‘head movement’ and ‘relaxation’ to ‘confuse’ McGregor inside the squared circle:

“His head movement is going to confuse McGregor,” Jones said. “His relaxation is going to confuse him. Making him fight at a high rate early is going to surprise him. We’re not going to box him; we’re going to fight him.

“We know we’re going to get his tank blown early. We’re going to let him see things, show him all that stuff early. Let him see what he’s been dealing with, make him more confused. Because he’s new to this, and he ain’t ready for this.”

It’s obvious that both men are confident, but many are giving McGregor a slim chance to come out on top given the fact that Mayweather is an undefeated former five-division world champion. It is important to note, however, that “Money” hasn’t competed in nearly two years, as his last victory came over Andre Berto in Sept. 2015.

McGregor, on the other hand, has never competed in a professional boxing match. He last fought in the Octagon, however, this past November, at UFC 205 knocking out Eddie Alvarez to become the UFC lightweight champion.

Do you agree with Jones’ comments?

Leonard Ellerbe Responds To Mayweather-McGregor Critics

In just a few weeks time, Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will step into the boxing ring to square off, and while the fight is expected to rank amongst the most lucrative of all-time, many have criticized the Aug. 26 showdown as being nothing more than a ‘money grab’ between two stars from different sports.

During “Money’s” open media workout yesterday (Via Fight Source) (Aug. 11, 2017) in Las Vegas, Mayweather Promotion’s CEO Leonard Ellerbe responded to those in the media bashing the bout:

“Mind your f**king business, you know?” he said. “It’s like do your job, cover the sport. Obviously, you have to give your opinion, which we understand that. It’s like, we don’t see you saying nothing else about anybody else’s events. We know what this is about. It’s like okay, one thing is for sure, you’re not gonna stop this event. The fans demanded this event and that’s what they’re gonna get. We didn’t ask for this.”

“That’s what’s wrong with boxing today. You guys are always complaining and looking for shit to complain about when there’s nothing there. That’s the reason why we can’t be innovative. That’s what Floyd Mayweather has done differently than anybody else. He’s thought outside the box.”

And while he certainly seemed agitated, Ellerbe said that he appreciates the fans, while also giving his take on why boxing has struggled in recent years:

“We appreciate all the fans,” Ellerbe said. “We don’t ever want to turn our back or say anything. But again, the hardcore fans, that’s the reason why our sport isn’t where football and basketball is. It’s because we stay in our own little box. It’s like, you tell me what’s wrong with these two guys fighting. If you don’t want to watch it, don’t buy it. It’s as simple as that.”

What do you make of Ellerbe’s comments, and will you be tuning in on Aug. 26?

On Aug. 26, 2017, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will take on undefeated former five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather in a 12-round boxing match that many are giving a slim chance to win.

If he does, however, come out on top, more lucrative fights could potentially await McGregor inside the squared circle, specifically a clash with Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alavarez:

“If that miracle was to happen, then we have a conversation,” Alvarez told Fansided. “If that miracle were to happen, but I doubt it very much that Conor beats Floyd.”

Since Mayweather announced his retirement from professional boxing in Sept. 2015, Alvarez has taken over as the face of the sport. At just 27 years of age, “Canelo” has a wealth of experience in the boxing ring, and he has only improved since losing a one-sided decision to Mayweather in 2013.

Since that loss to “Money”, Alvarez has rattled off seven consecutive victories including wins over Erislandy Lara, Miguel Cotto, Amir Khan and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. On Sept. 16, “Canelo” is set to compete in what many have labeled as the best fight that can be made in boxing: a middleweight title fight between him and WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO 160-pound champion Gennady Golovkin.

Alvarez and Golovkin are without question two of the best boxers in the world, and the fight is expected to be a phenomenal contest.

If Alvarez gets by “GGG”, perhaps his next fight could take place against McGregor.

What are your thoughts?

The back-and-forth banter between Conor McGregor and former boxing world champion Paulie Malignaggi has continued.

Malignaggi was recently brought in as a sparring partner to help McGregor prepare for his Aug. 26 boxing match with Floyd Mayweather, but Malignaggi decided to leave Team McGregor after photos that made it look as if McGregor had knocked him down in sparring were leaked.

Last night (Aug. 5, 2017), Malignaggi once again took to Twitter to blast McGregor:

The former world champion also admitted that he ‘absolutely’ regrets traveling to Las Vegas to serve as a sparring partner for the “Notorious” one:

McGregor, the reigning UFC lightweight champion, will make his professional boxing debut on Aug. 26 against Mayweather in a bout that’s expected be amongst the most lucrative in the history of combat sports.

Nick Diaz Offers His Opinion On Mayweather vs. McGregor

Despite his lack of fighting over the last few years, Nick Diaz remains one of the biggest names in mixed martial arts, and he recently gave his opinion on the upcoming Aug. 26 boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor: “As far as MMA, I want to say there’s maybe five guys that do […]

Despite his lack of fighting over the last few years, Nick Diaz remains one of the biggest names in mixed martial arts, and he recently gave his opinion on the upcoming Aug. 26 boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor:

“As far as MMA, I want to say there’s maybe five guys that do jiu-jitsu that have an actual level of understanding when it comes to boxing,” Diaz told My MMA News. “He (McGregor) obviously does. I feel like, if he can hit my brother he can definitely can put up somewhat of a fight with Floyd, if not actually bring him an actual challenge.”

McGregor and Diaz’ younger brother, Nate, have fought twice to date, with Nate submitting McGregor at UFC 196 in March 2016, and McGregor scoring a majority decision in the rematch last August at UFC 202. In both fights, the “Notorious” one was somewhat successful on the feet, landing big shots and effective combinations.

At the end of the day, many have given McGregor no chance of beating Mayweather given the fact that “Money” is a former five-division world champion, with a perfect 49-0 record.

Diaz, however, admits that he doesn’t know how the fight will play out:

“I don’t know what’s gonna happen. I could say one thing, I could be wrong. Also, the ups and downs of life, you never know what’s going on. Either one of these guys could have a bad – like the last time my brother fought he had broken ribs, torn rib tissue. Neither one of those fights worked out for him. He had 13 days the first time and the next time he was injured. I was there for it.”

What do you make of Diaz’s assessment, and who are you picking to come out on top on Aug. 26 in Las Vegas?
