Fight of the Day: Jordan Mein Utterly Obliterates Forrest Petz at Score Fighting Series 7

You guys remember when Jordan Mein elbow-raped Evangelista Santos like a God damned Papau New Guinea savage back at Strikeforce: Kharitonov vs. Barnett? Well, he did the same thing again last weekend to Forrest Petz, who is kind of like the poor man’s Jay Hieron, meaning that he is damn near flawless on the local circuit, yet falls apart every time we see him under the bright lights. To be fair, Petz can actually claim a UFC victory under his belt (he’s actually 2-5 lifetime), but Jordan Mein gives not a shit about where you’ve been. He only cares about where you are going to be, which, should you decided to scrap with him, will be crumpled against the cage beneath a hellstorm of elbows that would send Kenny Florian into a jealous, baby-kicking tantrum.

Not unlike Sensodyne’s rapport with American dentists, 9 out of Mein’s last 10 opponents would recommend him to anyone seeking to get their ass kicked. Now that he’s managed to successfully separate himself from Strikeforce’s sinking ship, how long do you think it will be until we see this kid in the UFC?

UFC Fight Night Marquardt vs Palhares

UFC Fight Night Main card * Middleweight bout: Nate Marquardt vs Rousimar Palhares – Bad matchup for Marquardt if this gets on the ground. UFC Fight Night Main card

* Middleweight bout: Nate Marquardt vs Rousimar Palhares – Bad matchup for Marquardt if this gets on the ground. With both their skillsets I like Palhares.

* Lightweight bout: Efrain Escudero vs Charles Oliveira – Charles Oliveira wins this.

* Lightweight bout: Jim Miller vs Gleison Tibau – Interesting fight here. If there is going to be a TKO its coming from Tibau’s hands. Miller could out point Tibau, but Gleison has been doing well is last couple of outings and really concentrating. I like Tibau here he will be bigger and more powerful – slower though.

* Lightweight bout: Ross Pearson vs Cole Miller – I don’t think Miller has an answer to anything that Pearson will be throwing. Pearson has looked great on his feet in his two fights vs Aaron Riley and Denis Siver. These two fighters are known for pushing the pace and steamrolling their opponents. Pearson handled them with relative ease. I think Miller will have trouble the whole fight so the odds of Miller slapping on a triangle or RNC I think are slim. Pearson has showed a laser like focus sticking to a fight plan against both Riley and Siver. I like Pearson to win.

UFC Fight Night Prelims card

* Lightweight bout: Yves Edwards vs John Gunderson – As much as I’m fan of Gunderson. I think Yves has the speed and all the ability to stifle Gunderson. Yves by decision.

* Light Heavyweight bout: Jared Hamman vs Kyle Kingsbury – Kingsbury has been looking better lately, and Hamman has that tough zombie style. I like Hamman because he is unbreakable.

* Middleweight bout: Tomasz Drwal vs Dave Branch – Dave Branch wins this.

* Middleweight bout: Rich Attonito vs Rafael Natal – Pass

* Welterweight bout: Anthony Waldburger vs David Mitchell – Pass

* Welterweight bout: Brian Foster vs Forrest Petz

A fighter’s homework involves studying his opponent and training to the best of his or her ability in order to implement a gameplan to win. Prior to his UFC 116 fight earlier this month, welterweight Daniel “Ninja” Roberts did a little more than the usual homework.

He did his math.

“I looked at the card and I had the highest percentage of submission and the guy I was fighting had the highest percentage of losing by submission,” Roberts recently told MMAFighting.com. “I looked at all the matchups, and I was thinking, ‘Man, I have a good chance to get this.'”

As any fighter on the preliminary bouts knows, the real money is in the post-fight bonuses. Roberts, whose fight purse was $6,000 to show and $6,000 to win, was looking at a $75,000 bonus if he walked home with the Submission of the Night.
