It looks like Mike Pierce won’t be getting the bone he wanted the UFC to throw him for earning his third Octagon appearance last weekend at UFC 118 against Amilcar Alves.

Yesterday Pierce called out Thiago Alves via Twitter and "The Pitbull" accepted the Washington native’s challenge, however the UFC had other plans for the American Top Team fighter who will now face John Howard at UFC 124 in Montreal on December 11.

The news was first reported by MMAJunkie this afternoon and we were able to confirm with a source close to Alves.

The fight may well be Alves’ last stab at remaining at welterweight after he failed to make weight for the second time in his UFC career, this time for an important number two contendership match-up with Jon Fitch at UFC 117 last month that would determine who was next in line for a shot at the winner of the Georges St-Pierre vs. Josh Koscheck bout, which is also slated for the December 11 card.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship is coming back to Montreal, and the event will be headlined by the most famous Canadian in the sport.

Georges St-Pierre‘s title defense against Josh Koscheck will take place on Dec. 11 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, UFC president Dana White confirmed with MMA Fighting Monday.

UFC 124 will happen at the end of the 12th season of The Ultimate Fighter, which premieres on Spike TV on Sept. 15. St-Pierre and Koscheck will serve as opposing coaches on the show.

Montreal to Host GSP vs. Josh Koscheck II

Heading into his first bout with Georges St. Pierre, Josh Koscheck likely wasn’t most Canadian’s ‘favori’ fighter to begin with, but after his post UFC 113 interview / antics (you may recall him declaring that the asses of both the Montreal Canadiens and GSP were going to get kicked), we’re thinking Kos might not be the […]

Heading into his first bout with Georges St. Pierre, Josh Koscheck likely wasn’t most Canadian’s ‘favori’ fighter to begin with, but after his post UFC 113 interview / antics (you may recall him declaring that the asses of both the Montreal Canadiens and GSP were going to get kicked), we’re thinking Kos might not be the right guy to give you a tour of the historic city.

Well, word has come today from MMA Fighting, that the rematch between GSP and Koscheck will in fact go down in Montreal, on December 11th. Dana White reportedly confirmed the fight date and location to the outlet, and in a follow up report from MMA Junkie, they too have verified that the fight will take place in St. Pierre’s hometown.

While Koscheck may or may not be looking forward to returning to a city where likely 90% of the people hate his guts (Kos does seem to revel in pissing others off), this news absolutely guarantees a packed Bell Centre / house come December 11th. Throw in the fact that each dude is coaching in the upcoming season of “The Ultimate Fighter” and you’ve got yourself some serious hype. Oh yeah, if the NHL isn’t part of your regular sport’s diet, the Penguins ended up being eliminated by the Habs…How many signs do you think will be pointing that lil nugget out at UFC 124? If GSP in fact loses that night though…wow.

Josh Koscheck will definitely not have the advantage of a bipartisan crowd on his side when he squares off against Georges St-Pierre two weeks before Christmas in the UFC welterweight champion’s hometown of Montreal, Quebec at UFC 124 on December 11.

The news was first reported today by MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani, who confirmed the venue and the match-up (which will be the culmination of the pair’s season as opposite coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 12) with UFC president Dana White.

Every fighter wants a chance to compete in front of a hometown crowd. At least they think they do. There’s no hassle with airports, no strange restaurants, no frantic searches for a health food store so you can stock your hotel room with gluten-free whatever. It’s familiar. It’s home. And it doesn’t hurt that you get to walk out on fight night to a unanimous chorus of cheers.

But sometimes home isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Not when every local media outlet wants a piece of you and every person who ever sat next to in a high school geometry class wants you to get them a ticket to the fights.

That’s the situation Boston native Kenny Florian is in this week. On Saturday night at UFC 118 he takes on Gray Maynard in a fight to determine who will get the next crack at the UFC lightweight title, and he does it in front of a hometown crowd that will place its hopes and expectations for a local victory onto his narrow shoulders.

“It can be a little distracting,” Florian told MMA Fighting. “But it’s stuff I’ve dealt with before. People want you to get them tickets to every fight. You have to win every fight. You always have your fans supporting you and people in your corner expecting you to do well. That’s just how it is.”

Now that we’ve met TUF 12‘s lightweight contestants, it’s time to start building some hype for the rival coaches. SPIKE has provided CagePotato.com with this exclusive promo for The Ultimate Fighter: Team GSP vs. Team Koscheck, in which St. Pierre and Kos face off during a pretty nasty-looking storm. Personally, we’d be huddled in a basement somewhere, but you know how these fighters are — you can’t tell them anything. TUF 12 premieres Wednesday, September 15th, at 10pm/9c, directly following UFC Fight Night: Marquardt vs. Palhares.
