Bubba Jenkins can also add MMA to his list of accomplishments in 2011.

Jenkins, who won the NCAA wrestling title at 157 pounds in March, successfully made his MMA debut this past Friday at Tachi Palace Fights 11 in Lemoore, Calif., forcing opponent Josh Williams to tap to strikes at two minutes and four seconds of the first round.

Jenkins, 23, has been training for MMA with the American Top Team in Florida.

Denis Kang, Corey Hill and others were also in action over the weekend. Check out a quick rundown below.
— Also at TPF 11, Bellator veteran Georgi Karakhanyan won the 145-pound title with a triangle choke over Isaac DeJesus. Former 125-pound TPF champion Ulysses Gomez took home the 135-pound belt with a guillotine over Cody Gibson.

— At Friday’s XFC 15, Nick Newell extended his win streak to six with a heel hook in 71 seconds.

— On the same XFC 15 card, Corey Hill bounced back from his September 2010 loss to “Razor” Rob McCullough by scoring a Brabo choke win over Charlie Rader … One-time Bellator competitor Felice Herrig had her two-fight win streak snapped in a decision loss to Carla Esparza.

— Former PRIDE and UFC fighter Denis Kang dropped his third straight fight on Saturday at Road FC 5 in Seoul, South Korea. Kang lost by TKO to PRIDE veteran Shungo Oyama, who earned his third consecutive victory.

— In Japan, two new Pancrase champions were declared at Saturday’s Pancrase Impressive Tour 13 event. Mitsuhisa Sunabe became the first-ever 125-pound Pancrase titleholder by stopping Hiroyuki Abe with strikes in the third. Shooto and Sengoku veteran Shintaro Ishiwatari bested Manabu Inoue for the 135-pound title by majority decision.

— UFC veteran Pete Spratt stopped Canada’s own Martin Grandmont in the main event of Instinct MMA on Friday in Quebec.

We bid you good morning, Potato Nation, and we present you with our second installment of preview materials for the upcoming Bellator tournaments, this time running down the 145ers set to do battle in March.  By now you should know that Bellator will be airing live on Saturdays on MTV2, so we’re really going to stop telling you.  But don’t come crying to us when your DVR doesn’t magically start recording the fights in the new time slot, all teary-eyed with your bare face hanging out, asking us what went on and who advanced, because we totally won’t even tell you.

Sorry about that.  Listen, go grab some coffee, and venture in past the jump for introductions and videos for all eight featherweights confirmed for the brackets.

Bellator 28 XXVIII Rich Clementi Carey Vanier

Well, Bellator rolled up into New Orleans on Thursday night, and there was incoherent speech, attractive women in small outfits, and some dudes got into a few fights. Bjorn Rebney made some interesting decisions for this one, since the show went off simultaneously with the first game of the NFL season, featuring last year’s SuperBowl Champion New Orleans Saints. At home. In New Orleans. This town is firmly behind their football team when they’re losing, and after a few winning seasons, it’s kinda impressive that more than a handful of people showed up at the Mahalia Jackson Theatre. (My guess is they’re either die-hard MMA fans or they hate America.) It’s pretty ballsy to put a card here this week, but Rebney’s father is the goddamn Winnebago Man, so if you don’t agree with him you can just fuck off. Also noteworthy is that there are no tournament bouts on the card, for the first time in 28 shows, but winners here will presumably show up next season in a bracket.

If you don’t mind listening to a play by play to something that went down two days ago, come on in and I’ll tell you about Bellator XXVIII. Special inside: the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu move you must try in bed!

Four-time All-American wrestler and NCAA Division I champ Eric Larkin wrapped up his third straight MMA victory in as many tries at Bellator 28 in New Orleans on Thursday night.

Larkin got off to a quick start, dropping Marcus Andrusia with a surprise head kick in the opening seconds, then adding some vicious ground-and-pound as Andrusia struggled to regain his bearings. After taking a beating in the half-guard, Andrusia attempted to sit up and got caught in a tight guillotine choke from Larkin, forcing Andrusia to submit at 2:46 of round 1.

“I actually had a coach text me today and say, ‘Hey, you should throw the head kick. He’ll never expect it.’ And I landed it,” Larkin said after the victory.
