The newest star in the UFC, Khamzat Chimaev will make his eagerly anticipated U.S. debut on September 19. He is expected to fight Gerald Meerschaert at middleweight on the undercard of Tyron Woodley vs. Colby Covington which takes place in Las Vegas.

Raphael Marinho of Combate broke the news on social media, he wrote.

“Dana White said he is negotiating Demian Maia x Khamzat Chimaev for Ilha da Luta, but that the Russian will fight in Las Vegas first. From what I’ve learned, the UFC is negotiating for Chimaev to face Gerald Meerschaert on the September 19 card, at middleweight (up to 84kg). #feedmma

This news comes shortly after it was revealed Chimaev had finally been granted a U.S. visa. UFC president Dana White previously revealed he was struggling to get Chimaev into the country and was unable to schedule another fight for the Russian until that hurdle had been cleared.

Chimaev scored back-to-back victories on ‘Fight Island’ in July. The 26-year-old made his UFC debut at middleweight against John Phillips. He dominated the first round before sinking in a submission early in round two. Ten days later and Chimaev was back action again – this time competing at welterweight. Once again he dominated the fight and managed to stop UFC newcomer Rhys McKee inside one round.

Post-fight White revealed he was hoping to book Chimaev’s third fight with the promotion for UFC 252. The undefeated prospect then began calling out the biggest and best fighters at welterweight including Demian Maia, Conor McGregor, Mike Perry, and even the 170lb champ, Kamaru Usman. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and fans have been forced to wait a little longer than anticipated to see Chimaev back in action.

Right now the plan is for Chimaev to fight Meerschaert on September 19 before taking on Demian Maia in October. ‘GM3’ doesn’t like that plan which seems to write off his chances against the undefeated Russian.

“He’s not leaving the cage physically able to fight in October,” Meerschaert wrote on Twitter.

Who do you think will win on September 19? Khamzat Chimaev or Gerald Meerschaert?

Gerald Meerschaert

Due to his opponent falling out, Gerald Meerschaert will be making the jump in weight up from middleweight to light heavyweight in order to take on Ed Herman at the UFC’s event on August 1st.

Meerschaert is looking to get back into the win column after his knockout loss to Ian Heinisch at UFC 250 earlier this year. Herman is coming off a two-fight winning streak with his last victory over Khadis Ibragimov in December of last year.

The match up is set to join the UFC’s August 1st event to be headlined by middleweights Derek Brunson and Edmen Shahbazyan.

A fight that has been rescheduled multiple times will finally go down seeing up and coming prospect Shahbazyan showcase his ability against the UFC veteran Derek Brunson. Since losing to the now middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in November of 2018, Bruson has put together a winning streak taking out two of the UFC’s most promising prospects Ian Heinisch and Elias Theodorou. Shahbazyan who has found finishes in all three of his UFC fights so far will look to continue this streak and cement himself further into the elite within the middleweight division.

In the co-main event of the evening, there will be a match-up between ranked welterweight Vincente Luque and the always exciting Randy Brown. Luque who is coming off a victory over Niko Price earlier this year will be attempting to maintain his ranking by ending Randy Brown’s two fight win streak he accumulated over 2019.

The only other currently confirmed match-up for this card is a matchup between top women’s flyweight contenders Joanne Calderwood and Jennifer Maia.

Taking this fight on short notice, Calderwood had been sitting out awaiting her previously scheduled title fight with Valentina Schevchenko before deciding to take this match-up against Maia with all signs pointing at the winner of this getting the next shot at the title.

Ian Heinisch

UFC Middleweight Ian Heinisch has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming bout at this weekends UFC 250 after a member of his team tested positive for the coronavirus.

Taking to twitter, TSN Sports Aaron Bronsteter shared the news that he had confirmed with multiple sources, however the tests were to be redone in order to confirm it was not a false positive.

Heinisch was scheduled to face Gerald Meerschaert in the preliminary card of the event. As stated the fight could very well stay together and continue ahead as planned should the tests come back clear.

At this point Meerschaert is confident he will continue to compete on Saturday, however, nothing has been shared in regards to an potential replacement for Heinisch however according to Raphael Marinho of Combate.com the UFC are looking into Anthony Ivy as a replacement to keep the bout on the card.

This would be Ivy’s debut in the UFC. The middleweight boasts a record of 8-2 entering the organisation on a five win streak all coming via finish.

Heinisch had a change in camp for this upcoming bout, moving his training from Factory X to Genesis MMA in Colorado.

Heinisch was set to return to the octagon for the first time in 2020 attempting to get back in the win column after back to back losses against Derek Brunson and Omari Akhmedov.

Meerschaert will be entering this bout coming off a submission victory of Deron Winn at UFC 248 in March.

At this stage while it would seem Heinisch is out he is still preparing to compete and continuing to cut weight so it is still to be determined weather the fight will remain together or not.

Who would you like to see face Gerald Meerschaert at UFC 250 should Heinisch remain unable?
