Germaine de Randamie: ‘I Would Love to Have Rematch With Amanda Nunes’

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SGkZmnMZTs

Germaine de Randamie is set for the biggest bout of her professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career. She will do battle with former women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm. The two will compete for the inaugral Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s featherweight title.

What also makes this bout special, is that it’ll serve as the main event of the UFC’s first show in Brooklyn, NY. UFC 208 takes place inside the Barclays Center on Feb. 11. It’ll be broadcast live on pay-per-view (PPV).

“The Iron Lady” recently appeared as a guest on Cage Side Submissions. She admitted the title opportunity wasn’t something she anticipated:

“It came actually as a surprise. I mean one day they offer you just a normal fight and the other day they offer you a title fight with Holly Holm. I just wanted to fight. People talk about maybe Holly or I don’t deserve this shot. We both were the ones that said, ‘yes let’s do this.’ So, [it] came as a surprise. It came as a great Christmas gift I have to say.”

For de Randamie, there were two things she set her sights on when she entered the world leader in MMA.

“When I came into the UFC or when the UFC signed me I had two wishes. I had two goals and that’s get a bonus, and that’s the one I got in my last fight, and fight for the belt. So, I guess I’m gonna make all my goals come true.”

Current UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes caused a stir when she revealed she wanted to fight for the featherweight title. Back in Nov. 2013, Nunes TKO’d de Randamie in the first round. “The Iron Lady” said she is willing to throw leather with “The Lioness” again.

“Oh hell yeah. We have to discuss this, because I want the belt at 135 too. So we should discuss which belt we gonna put on the line, but I would love to have my rematch.”

Holly Holm Favored to Take New Female 145lb Strap at UFC 208

Holly Holm opens as betting favorite prior to UFC 208 title fight in Brooklyn.

Ex-UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm  has been confirmed as the (slim) favorite over challenger Germaine de Randamie in the franchise’s first female-featherweight title fight at UFC 208 on Feb 11. Holm (10-2) opens as minus-130 favorite over de Randamie’s plus-100 price, in the.headlining title fight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Betting lines are provided courtesy of Nick Kalikas, of MMAOddsBreaker.com.

Kalikas confirmed the science behind the odds:

“Holm was a champion boxer, while de Randamie was a multiple-time champion kickboxer”.

“Holm is looking to bounce back from a two-fight losing streak and, personally, I think she’ll need to use all the tools in her game — not just her striking.

“De Randamie is just as good of a striker as Holm, if not better, and she possesses more finishing power. Holm is the more popular fighter due to her victory over Ronda Rousey, and more public action is expected to come her way, so I’m opening her as a slight favorite.”

Ronda Rousey’s first MMA loss came to “The Preacher’s Daughter”  via brutal knockout at UFC 193 in November 2015. Holm was unable to capitalize on her champion status subsequently,  with losses to Miesha Tate and Valentina Shevchenko bringing the ex-WBC boxing champion back down to earth.

Holm’s intention now is to capture the 145-pound title, and then fight at 135 pounds to reclaim her old belt, which is currently held by Amanda Nunes. It is noteworthy that Holm was also favored to beat Tate and Nunes.

The Netherlands’ De Randamie is 3-1 in the UFC, but will invariably be fighting a higher calibre of opponent in Holm.

Amanda Nunes Wants Winner of Inaugural UFC Women’s Featherweight Title Bout

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ik2ooOdvEHM

A little over a week ago, reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s bantamweight title holder Amanda Nunes teased moving up to featherweight to face the inaugural champion. Now, “The Lioness” has issued a challenge.

Former UFC women’s 135-pound champion Holly Holm will be fighting for gold again when she battles Germaine de Randamie in the main event of UFC 208. The winner will become the first UFC women’s 145-pound title holder.

Nunes took to her Twitter account in hopes of “making women’s mixed martial arts history.” Check it out:

UFC 208 will take place inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY on Feb. 11.

Nunes is coming off a 48-second destruction of Ronda Rousey. This made her become just the second fighter in the UFC to successfully retain her women’s bantamweight championship. She first won the title against Miesha Tate at UFC 200 with a first-round submission.

Nunes has had no problem talking down “Rowdy” after pasting her in less than a minute. She even questioned how Rousey made it as far as she did. This drew the ire of Cat Zingano, who said the champion was being “ungrateful” and “disrespectful.”

Zingano and Nunes competed against each other at UFC 178 back in Sept. 2014. Nunes got off to a great start, but she faded down the stretch. This allowed Zingano to come back. Once she was in mount, she dropped some hard elbows and continued the onslaught until the fight was stopped.

On Jan. 28, No. 1 ranked women’s bantamweight Valentina Shevchenko and No. 2 ranked Julianna Pena will go head-to-head on a UFC on FOX card in Denver. The winner of that fight will likely face Nunes for the title.

If the UFC decides to make Nunes defend her title before moving up, Invicta FC interim featherweight champion Megan Anderson would have no problem being next in line.

Fresh off her destruction of Ronda Rousey, Amanda Nunes is hungry for more…

Heading in to UFC 207, women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes experienced little promotion. With the return of Ronda Rousey on the card, the UFC made sure everyone knew about it. As color commentator Joe Rogan pointed out, the lack of Nunes promotion was very bizarre. Popularity means little when the octagon door shuts, a point illustrated perfectly by ‘The Lioness’ on December 30. Taking just 48 seconds to destroy Rousey, the champion ensured everyone knew who she was.

Now riding a five-fight win streak, including back-to-back stoppages over two WMMA legends, Nunes’ future is bright. During her second fight for the UFC, ‘The Lioness’ stopped Germaine De Randamie with an onslaught of elbows. Little did we know that victory could lead to a record-breaking bout four years later. ‘GDR’ is set to face Holly Holm for the inaugural featherweight title at UFC 208. Seeing an opportunity after finishing Rousey, Nunes was quick to announce her intent.

Nunes Issues Demand

Taking to Twitter, current bantamweight boss made a direct demand to the UFC. On February 8 former bantamweight champ Holly Holm will battle Germaine De Randamie to make history, and Nunes wants to be part of the second chapter:

Thoughts

With Julianna Pena and Valentina Schevchenko set to collide on January 28, the champion moving to featherweight could cause frustration. Pena already said she’d leave if she’s snubbed again, but Nunes’ demands certainly fit the current trend. Would the UFC be willing to make yet another interim title for Nunes to jump to 145 pounds? With little in the way of contenders outside of Pena & Schevchenko, women’s 135 could become complicated if Nunes goes to featherweight.

Then again, who doesn’t like a two-weight UFC world champion these days?
