Jorge Masvidal is once again trying to set the record straight after being accused of ducking Gilbert Burns for the past few months.

‘Gamebred’ has been out of action since suffering his third-straight loss at UFC 272 in March. Since then, the self-proclaimed BMF champion has been busy promoting his fight brand, iKON FC, and dealing with some lingering legal issues stemming from an alleged attack on the man that beat him in his last outing, Colby Covington.

Rumored to make his return soon, Jorge Masvidal has been long linked to a bout with No. 5 ranked welterweight contender Gilbert Burns. However, ‘Durinho’ recently claimed that ‘Gamebred’ had been offered the fight in November, December, and January, rejecting each one and subsequently frustrating Burns in the process. Now the Miami native is lashing out and attempting to tell his side of things.

Jorge Masvidal Snaps Back at Gilbert Burns

In an interview with Mirror Fighting, Masvidal states that he never once gave the UFC any indication that he could fight at the end of 2022 or when the promotion heads to Rio in January 2023.

“I want to clear up this, I never told the UFC I could fight in November or December because I still have injuries. I said January maybe if I’m healed up by then, but guess what I’ve got the good news and the clearance.”

“I’ve got numerous things going on, some little b*tch out there is trying to hit me over the head with three felonies,” Masvidal added. “I’ve still got to fix things up on that before people jump to any conclusions. I can beat the f*cking living brakes off of Gilbert Burns in March or April, that’s the honest truth and everything else is f*cking bullsh*t.”

Jorge Masvidal remains one of the UFC’s hottest acts despite a fairly lackluster run as of late. ‘Gamebred’ has lost five of his last eight, including back-to-back losses to former welterweight titleholder Kamaru Usman.

Khamzat Chimaev has verbally agreed to rematch Gilbert Burns at UFC 283 in Brazil – assuming the newly crowned middleweight champion, Alex Pereira is not ready to fight by then.

At UFC 273, Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns put on a fight-of-the-year contender, leaving it all in the octagon as they traded blows for the full three rounds. The judges scored the fight for Chimaev, but both men walked away with the crowd’s respect and admiration.

Since that fight, Khamzat Chimaev has fought once, in the co-main event of UFC 279. ‘Borz’ was initially scheduled to take on Nate Diaz, but after missing weight by a significant margin, he would instead face off against Kevin Holland in a catchweight bout. Chimaev put on one of his most clinical performances to date against ‘Trailblazer,’ taking the fight to the mat and quickly submitting him.

During this time, Burns has been unable to find an opponent to face, despite calling out the majority of the welterweight top 10. Jorge Masvidal did recently verbally accept a fight with ‘Durinho,’ claiming he would face the Brazilian on the undercard of Leon Edwards vs. Kamaru Usman 3.

However, Burns is hoping to feature on the UFC’s return to Brazil in January of 2023. One man who is also hoping to get on that card is Chimaev. ‘Borz’ has been calling for a fight with newly crowned middleweight champion Alex Pereira. However, it seems extremely unlikely that ‘Poatan’ will be ready to fight so soon after his five-round war with Israel Adesanya.

As a result, Chimaev has called for a fight with Burns, stating:

“(Gilbert Burns) if Alex not ready to be killed, let’s go du it again in Brazil 84 kg this time.”

Burns was quick to respond, stating that he would be happy to fight Khamzat Chimaev at any weight.

UFC Brazil already has a number of exciting fights booked, including a 4th fight between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno. However, Dana White has stated that the UFC are still filling the card out, and a rematch between ‘Borz’ and ‘Durinho’ would no doubt fit the bill.

Would you like to see a rematch between Gilbert Burns and Khamzat Chimaev?

Two-time UFC welterweight title challenger, Jorge Masvidal has offered to entertain Gilbert Burns’ continuous callouts – insisting if the Brazilian is willing to wait, he will return at a planned United Kingdom return for the promotion in March of next year.

Masvidal, the current #11 ranked welterweight contender, is without a victory since November 2019, where he won the symbolic BMF championship with a doctor’s stoppage TKO win against Nate Diaz.

Last time out, Masvidal suffered a one-sided unanimous decision loss against former interim titleholder, Colby Covington in the main event of UFC 272 back in March of this year. Masvidal was then involved in an alleged physical altercation with Covington in Flordia, leaving the Clovis native with facial injuries and a fractured tooth.

Burns, the current #5 ranked division challenger, has been sidelined since April of this year, suffering a close, unanimous decision loss to the undefeated, Khamzat Chimaev over the course of three rounds.

Calling for an Octagon return at the end of this year, if not a UFC 283 outing in his native Brazil, Burns has been calling for multiple opponents to accept a clash with him – namely Masvidal, to boot.

Jorge Masvidal willing to land UK comeback against Gilbert Burns

Eyeing a return next year, Masvidal has offered to fight Burns on the same card as an expected welterweight title trilogy rubber match between Leon Edwards, and Kamaru Usman.

“Sorry I’ve been missing, your boy’s been spreading his words, doing his thing, making sure this country stays as free as can be,” Jorge Masvidal said in a video posted on his Instagram. “I love you all, left to right. Midterms are over already, so now I can focus on some other things like myself and being selfish. So I’ve got to address this little b*tch that I usually wouldn’t have time for, but I’ll make some time for you today, Gilbert (Burns).”

“Hunter (Campbell), if you’re hearing this or when you see this, can you please tell this b*tch I have never agreed to November, December, or January,” Jorge Masvidal explained. “I’ve had court cases, I’ve had different things, a bunch of things where I haven’t been able to decide on when I fight.”

“I’ve gotten some much better news today, so guess what? If you want to get your ass whooped when Leon Edwards defends that f*cking belt in England, I will gladly beat the living sh*t out of you Gilbert,” Jorge Masvidal said. “If not, shut the f*ck up. You are a p*ssy. You’re not going to do nothing. When you see me in the street or when you see me in the cage, and we both know it. You’re going to ask me for a picture in real life and say it’s all bullsh*t and it’s just for the pay-per-view. So shut the f*ck up.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)
