Jorge Masvidal

Leon Edwards recently declared that he has no interest in settling his beef with Jorge Masvidal inside the Octagon. The streaking welterweight contender says he will instead wait for his shot a UFC gold.

‘Rocky’ is coming off a dominant decision win over Nate Diaz at UFC 263 in June. Edwards was wobbled in the fifth and final round of the fight but clearly believes that win was enough to secure him a long-overdue title shot.

“My next fight will be for the world title,” Edwards tweeted. “I don’t want to hear nothing about a guy coming off of a two-fight skid and got KO’d in his last fight.”

Masvidal took to social media to respond to Edwards’ post that was clearly referencing him.

“If you not gonna fight then keep my name out your p**sy a*s mouth you clout chasing biatch #supernecessary,” Masvidal wrote.

‘Gamebred’ has dropped to consecutive defeats against Kamaru Usman. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ scored a lopsided decision win when they fight fought before knocking Masvidal out in their second meeting.

The UFC fan favourite is now looking for his route back to the welterweight title and it appeared that a fight with Edwards was very much on the table until recently.

Gilbert Burns is another man trying to work his way back into title contention. The Brazilian submission specialist suffered a third-round knockout loss when he challenged Usman for the welterweight strap at UFC 258. ‘Durinho’ has since picked up an impressive three-round decision win over Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson but it appears he’ll need a least a couple more wins to earn another shot at the champ.

Burns took to social media to mock Edwards’ for refusing to fight Masvidal.

“Man this make zero sense to me,” Burns wrote on Twitter. “First the guy hit you with 3 pieces and a on your on country nothing happened. You being asking for this fight for years, last month you just did and now you turn the fight down it’s just me or this guy doesn’t like to fight? It’s crazy!”

Usman is set to defend his welterweight title against Colby Covington at UFC 268 on November 6.

So, Edwards is almost certainly out of action for the rest of 2021 waiting for a title shot he might not actually get.

Do you think Leon Edwards should fight Jorge Masvidal or Gilbert Burns instead of waiting for a title shot?

Jorge Masvidal

Jorge Masvidal is interested in fighting Gilbert Burns, Leon Edwards, or anyone who helps him close in on another welterweight title shot.

‘Gamebred’ is coming off back-to-back losses to the 170lb champ, Kamaru Usman. Masvidal famously stepped up on short notice to face ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ at UFC 251. He fell to a lopsided decision defeat but did well to go the distance with less than a week to prepare for the bout.

Masvidal and Usman rematched earlier this year at UFC 261. A full camp didn’t help ‘Street Jesus’ who was sensationally knocked out by Usman inside two rounds.

The 36-year-old remains intent on fighting for UFC gold once again. During an appearance at Dickies Arena on Friday, Masvidal namechecked Burns and Edwards when asked about who his next opponent will be.

“I don’t know man,” Masvidal said. “I mean, sh*t, Durinho is calling me out. If we can make it pop with Durinho, Leon [Edwards], anyone of these guys that gets me closer to the belt.”

Burns got wind of Masvidal’s call out and suggested they throw down later this year.

“Hey @GamebredFighter you know it’s all respect from me, let’s dance in November or December,” Burns wrote on social media. “I’m ready my guy #supernecessary let’s do this”

Burns is also coming off a loss to Usman. The former teammates faced off at UFC 258 earlier this year. The Brazilian started well, dropping the champion in the opening round. Usman quickly rallied to dominate Burns in round two before finding the TKO finish in round three.

Edwards has distanced himself from a fight with Burns in recent days. The Englishman is currently riding a nine-fight win streak and seems to be next in line for a title shot. ‘Rocky’ could well sit out and wait for the winner of Usman vs Covington II or maybe a grudge match with Masvidal will entice him into the Octagon for the third time in 2021.

Gilbert Burns

Gilbert Burns is dead set on fighting Leon Edwards next and he’s letting everyone know it.

In July, Burns got back in the win column with a dominant grappling display against Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson at UFC 264. Post-fight, he name-checked Nate Diaz, Jorge Masvidal, and Edwards as fellow welterweight contenders who he’d like to face next.

On Monday, ‘Durinho’ dialed in on Edwards who appears to be next in line for a shot at the welterweight belt after racking up nine straight UFC wins.

The Brazilian posted a clip from the UFC 265 post-fight press conference that showed Dana White saying Edwards will “probably” need to fight again in order to secure a 170lb title shot.

‘Rocky’ fired back with an alternate opponent suggestion for Burns.

Burns then angrily compared his record to that of his rival.

“Your best win is Nate Diaz who is unranked and the last time he beat a true WW is….NEVER, you are on a 9 fight win streak and nobody gives a shit about you. I’ve beat legends in Woodley, Maia and WB…come get this smoke…BRUMMIE CUNT”

“Nate beat you, I’ll bury you”

“COUPLE FACTS you had 8 weeks to fight Gunnar, I had 8 days. He mounted you and you held on for life. I beat up Gunnar in his country….fight me BRUNMIE CUNT lol”

Edwards then reminded Burns of the time he sat out to wait for a title shot rather than fight him.

“Remember when I called that ugly bastard out and he was like no I’ll wait 12months for my title shot #nochinburns #snake”

Burns insisted that he was in a much stronger position than Edwards currently is.

“Well I got a title shot, you don’t have one and Dana said you need one more fight. I’m ranked higher than you, fight me. I dare you “Handsome bastard”

‘Durinho’ ended the conversation by stating he is the only option for Edwards who risks being overlooked for a title shot if he refuses to fight.

“Truth of the matter is that I am helping you. If you don’t fight you will get skipped AGAIN. They are going to take you out of the rankings AGAIN Sitting out won’t help and @GamebredFighter isn’t going to fight you because he is still sleeping BRUNMIE CUNT lol”
