Briggs is a former boxing heavyweight lineal champion. He last fought professionally in 2016. At one point he held the WBA boxing heavyweight championship.

Greg Hardy was a former NFL player who made waves in the UFC’s heavyweight division. As an MMA fighter, Hardy earned a record of 7-5 professionally. Former UFC heavyweight contender, Greg Hardy, made good in his professional Boxing debut as he won via second-round knockout.

Having had the opportunity to compete in the NFL and the UFC, Greg Hardy has now turned his hand to Boxing, making his professional debut at Black Sheep Boxing’s Fight Night 4 in Delray Beach, Florida.

Hardy displayed his punching power throughout his time competing within the UFC and on DWCS, scoring all bar one of his professional MMA victories by TKO or KO. The former NFL star was hoping his punching power would carry over to Boxing, and it did just that.

The affair was not the most technical matchup, but that well may have played into Greg Hardy’s favor as he no longer had to concern himself with kicks or being taken down. It was a massive left hook followed by an equally as strong right hand which would see his opponent drop to the canvas before the referee waved the contest off.

Check it out below:

Greg Hardy makes good in his professional Boxing debut

Hardy was able to emerge victorious in his Boxing debut and the same can be said for when he began his MMA career prior to making his UFC debut. The former NFL star would earn himself two first-round finishes on Dana White’s Contender Series before dropping his UFC debut by disqualification after landing an illegal knee on his opponent, Allen Crowder.

Hardy would bounce back from this setback and pick up two more quick finishes before having his victory against Ben Sosoli overturned due to the infamous incident which saw ‘The Prince of War’ use his inhaler illegally in between rounds.

A decision loss to Alexander Volkov would follow as he took his first real step up in competition, but again he was able to bounce back with victories over Yorgan De Castro and Maurice Greene. From here on things would turn sour for him, losing his next three via stoppage to Marcin Tybura, Tai Tuivasa, and Sergey Spivak, before parting ways with the promotion in March of this year.

Former UFC heavyweight, Ben Rothwell expects to face fellow UFC alum, Greg Hardy, in the near future –  ‘it’s inevitable, I’m sure.’

Back in April, it was announced that UFC veteran Ben Rothwell, would be parting ways with the promotion. He would promptly sign with the bare-knuckle boxing promotion, BKFC.

Although still without a fight officially booked, Rothwell envisions a matchup with former Dallas Cowboy defensive end and former UFC heavyweight, Greg Hardy, who also signed with the BKFC earlier this month.

“Certainly, a lot of people are interested in that and are saying it,” Rothwell said to MMAJunkie when asked about a potential matchup with Hardy. “I don’t know when that’s going to happen, maybe the next fight, but it’s inevitable, I’m sure. My plan is to fight all these guys, so fight as many times as I can.”

Besides Hardy, the Wisconsin-born banger also has his eyes on BKFC reigning heavyweight champion, Arnold Adams.

Adams who had a lackluster 7-9 MMA record has really found his footing inside the BKFC ring, holding a 7-1 record in bare knuckle, five of which were by stoppage. Adams has defeated former UFC veteran, Joey Beltran, and experienced bare knuckle fighters such as Dillon Clecker and Sam Shewmaker but still Rothwell is confident he will be able to get the job done.

“He’s a big guy, knows how to fight, and should be a great fight if we get to fight each other,” Rothwell said. “But first and foremost, I have to take this first fight and put some exciting wins together. I believe if I go on and do that, it will come, the title shot will come, and I’ll take care of business.” Rothwell will join a competitive heavyweight division and with his big name and reputation, he may be thrown in the deep end sooner rather than later.” (H/T MMAJunkie)

Former NFL defensive end Greg Hardy isn’t counting out a UFC come back down the road.

Hardy, a one-time NFL pro-bowler, hopes to return to the company with improvements to his game. Hardy fought out his UFC contract and his departure became official in March.

Despite recent setbacks, ‘The Prince of War’ hinted at another shot in the UFC once he improves his skills on the mat.

“They hit me up, told me ‘If you get some wrestling going in another promotion, we’d be glad to sign you back,’” Hardy told Chris Van Vliet. “I sent them my thank you’s and love and went looking for where I can throw these hands and found BKFC.”

Hardy (7-5, 1 NC) suffered three straight knockout losses to end his UFC run. His latest fight came against Sergey Spivak at UFC 272 on March 5, where he suffered a first-round TKO loss.

“We’ll see what he does outside of the UFC,” Dana White told MMA Fighting’s Jose Youngs. “He came in here and didn’t have a bad run.”

New Beginnings For Greg Hardy

It didn’t take long for the former UFC heavyweight to find a new home as he signed a multi-fight deal with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) last week.

“I’m excited to start working with Greg,” BKFC President Dave Feldman said in a statement to MMA Junkie. “He wants to test himself in bare-knuckle and has been training for a fight for the last couple of months. Heavyweight is one of our deepest divisions and his skill set fits right in.”

Greg Hardy isn’t the first UFC alum to join the BKFC roster. Fighters like Chad Mendes, Paige VanZant, and Chris Leben made the jump to bare-knuckle boxing.

Hardy isn’t new to change. He spent his NFL career with two different teams- the Carolina Panthers and the Dallas Cowboys. He also made the transition from the gridiron to the octagon in 2017. Hardy was undefeated as an amateur before securing a UFC contract on Dana White’s Contender Series.

Neither Hardy’s pro boxing debut nor opponent has yet to be announced.

Greg Hardy has shared some more details about the conversation he had with the UFC upon being released from the company.

Hardy finished out his UFC contract after his most recent loss inside the Octagon this past March, and the Las Vegas-based mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion opted not to sign him to a new deal, allowing him to walk.

Speaking to Chris Van Viet in a recent interview, Hardy revealed that his departure from the UFC was actually on good terms. In fact, the promotion left the door open to bring Hardy back down the line.

“The best organization that I’ve ever been a part of, not even second to the NFL. They hit me up, my contract was already up so we knew it was up. They hit me up, told me ‘If you get some wrestling going in another promotion, we’d be glad to sign you back.

“Love having you. Appreciate you.’ And I sent them my thank yous and love, went looking for where I can throw these hands, and found BFKC. It was actually a really good parting and I look forward to going back one day and putting on a show for you guys and maybe body slamming somebody for about three rounds once I learn some wrestling.”

Hardy officially joined the UFC back in 2019 after some successful showings on the Dana White’s Contender Series. He was able to go 4-2 in his first six fights, with a No Contest to add in as well, however, his latest skid likely prompted the UFC not to re-sign him.

The ex-NFL star dropped three-straight inside the Octagon, all via TKO or KO. Now, Hardy has signed with Bare Knuckle FC and will compete in bare-knuckle boxing for the time being.

“With BKFC I’ve spent most of my time boxing, so now I get to be inside my realm. We’re focused more on the actual boxing aspect, the conditioning aspect, conditioning my knuckles, my mindset for a different style of fighting …

“A lot of my MMA was grappling, ground and pound, different things that I had to make up for in a fight as opposed to working on a lot of what I’m good at which is boxing, striking.”
