UFC heavyweight Greg Hardy has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming fight at UFC 270 after suffering a hand injury in camp.

Hardy was originally supposed to face Aleksei Oleinik at UFC 270 before Oleinik dropped out of the bout. Serghei Spivac stepped up to take the short-notice fight, but this time Hardy was on the unfortunate end of a fight-altering injury.

Hardy broke the news on his Instagram page, along with a graphic photo of the injury.

WARNING: The following photo is graphic.

“New date, who dis,” Hardy said. “Gotta keep it light even though I’m kinda sick about it. Putting on a show on the biggest card of the year was my 2022 dream and now I gotta wait. KOs coming soon, sorry.”

Greg Hardy Was Slated To Make His Return After Back To Back Knockout Losses

Hardy most recently fell via first-round knockout to Tai Tuivasa last summer at UFC 264. Before that, he fell by another knockout in the toughest test of his career against Marcin Tybura in late 2020.

Hardy, a former NFL star who transitioned to MMA after a tumultuous ending to his football career, had looked promising since his UFC debut in 2019. He’s earned big wins over the likes of Yorgan De Castro, Maurice Greene, and Juan Adams before his recent struggles in the cage.

It’s unclear how long Hardy will be sidelined from competition after suffering the brutal hand injury. It’s also unclear if the finger is completely broken or partially fractured, which could determine how long he’ll have to recover.

It’s unclear if the UFC will keep Spivac on the card, but it’s unlikely the promotion will do so after multiple switches with the fight. Hardy is anticipating a return sometime later this year.

UFC heavyweight and former NFL defensive end Greg Hardy would love to see NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown fight.

Hardy claims that he was the one that paved the way for NFL players to even think about coming into the combat sports world. Le’Veon Bell has recently called out Tyron Woodley after losing once again to Jake Paul. Woodley was devastatingly knocked out by Paul in their second matchup. Bell even showed off his boxing skills in a video that he posted to social media. Brown was also rumored to be in talks to fight Logan Paul before he was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Hardy believes that NFL players are the best athletes and that their athleticism can translate to any sport successfully. He would love to see what players like Brown and Bell could do inside the combat sports world.

Greg Hardy was speaking with BJPenn.com when he had this to say about Antonio Brown’s potential

“Man, I would like to see AB fight. Honestly, bro, Greg Hardy paved the way for all you boys, so you are welcome, for sure. Football players and their versatility have been underrated for a very long time. People have been telling me that I can’t play receiver or do this, I’ve done it all. NFL players are the most agile, versatile, lethal, vicious people on the planet. I think if these guys put their mind to it and overcome the ridiculousness that is training for a fight, I think it would be amazing. The entertainment level will go up, guaranteed. I’m excited to see it, hopefully, they are serious.” (Transcribed by BJPenn.com)

Hardy is coming off of two straight KO/TKO losses to Tai Tuivasa and Marcin Tybura. Hardy now has a record of 7-4 inside the cage. He has an upcoming fight against veteran fighter Aleksei Oleinik at UFC 270.

Greg Hardy will look to get back in the win column against veteran heavyweight Aleksei Oleinik in January.

Hardy is in the middle of the worst stretch of his young career, losing two straight via KO/TKO. Both of those losses were against much more experienced fighters in Tai Tuivasa and Marcin Tybura. The 33-year-old was also a former All-Pro NFL player until a domestic violence case got him blacklisted by the league. He then transitioned to MMA full-time in 2016 and signed with the UFC in 2018.

Oleinik is also on his own little skid at this point in his career. The 44-year-old has lost three straight over the past year and a half. However, he does come into this fight with a huge amount of experience compared to Hardy. This fight will be his 77th professional fight to Hardy’s 13th. One does have to think this could be Oleinik’s last fight in the UFC given his age and his performance as of late.

With both fighters currently unranked in the heavyweight division, this fight could determine if one could get a number beside his name after this.

The bout is currently scheduled for January 22 at UFC 270. That event only has one other bout confirmed at this time. That fight is one between middleweight contenders Derek Brunson and Jared Cannonier. The rest of the card should get announced in the coming days and weeks.

Two heavyweight fighters will look to ring in the new year with a win.

MMA Junkie broke the news Monday that Greg Hardy will be meeting Alexey Oleynik at UFC 270 on January 22. There is currently no main event or venue officially announced for the event.

Greg Hardy came into mixed martial arts as a controversial figure with a past marred by domestic violence allegations. The controversy didn’t end when the former NFL player made his way to the Octagon. After being disqualified in his UFC debut, Hardy would later have a win overturned for his use of an inhaler during a clash with Ben Sosoli.

In his last two visits to the cage, things have not gone well for “The Prince of War.” Hardy was taken down and pounded out by Marcin Tybura last December. In his most recent outing, Hardy was flattened by Tai Tuivasa in the first round.

Oleynik will be looking to snap a losing streak of his own when he meets Hardy. The Eastern European last tasted victory when he beat former UFC champ Fabricio Werdum in 2020. Since the win, Oleynik has been knocked out by Derrick Lewis and the rising Chris Daukaus. Oleynik’s losing streak recently slipped to three when he lost a decision to Sergey Spivak in June.

With the addition of this fight, the slim UFC 270 card currently is as follows:

Israel Adesanya vs. Robert Whittaker (Unconfirmed)

Jared Cannonier vs. Derek Brunson

Greg Hardy vs. Alexey Oleynik
