The way MMA trainer Greg Jackson sees it, it’s sadly ironic that his phone should be ringing off the hook a few days after adding a new UFC champion to his stable of fighters, and yet so few people are interested in talking about the fight.

Yes, Jon Jones dominated “Shogun” Rua to become light heavyweight champ, and yes, it would be nice if Jackson got a day or two to savor his fighter’s victory. But that’s not how it works this time. Not after Rashad Evans, a former UFC champion from the Jackson team, agreed to fight Jones just before declaring himself “done” with Jackson’s team altogether.

After inter-squad drama like that, all anyone wants to know is what exactly happened between Jackson and Evans to bring them to this point. The trouble is, Jackson isn’t entirely sure.

On Saturday afternoon, his peaceful spot turned to chaos. Jones found himself in the middle of a robbery, and along with coaches Greg Jackson and Mike Winkeljohn, helped apprehend a thief.

Jones recounted the story in brilliant style following his star-making UFC 128 championship win over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, capping off a day that can only be classified as epic.

Give Diego Sanchez the chance to talk about where he’s been and where he’s going, and if he’s in the mood, he’ll rip open a vein and bleed out nearly every detail he can remember, whether thrilling or depressing. The 29-year-old has been a UFC regular for nearly six years, and he’s experienced both the highs and lows of athletic competition during his run in the organization, from winning season one of The Ultimate Fighter and later becoming the lightweight No. 1 contender, to getting stopped for the first time in his career.

He’s equally open about his life outside of the cage, including partying too much, being scammed out of nearly $200,000 and making bad decisions that affected his career.

Sanchez, however, is ready to close the door on his past mistakes while embracing his past successes. Most notably, after a 3-year-plus absence, he returned to the trainer that helped build him: Greg Jackson.

On Thursday, Sanchez faces Martin Kampmann in the main event of UFC on Versus 3 with the belief that his ship is righted.

Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz is about 10 days from his title defense against Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos. If most fans had their way, Diaz would be fighting Jason “Mayhem” Miller that night.

The rivalry between Diaz and Miller exploded last April, when the two were among the participants in a post-fight brawl following Jake Shields’ championship win over Dan Henderson.

On Wednesday’s edition of The MMA Hour, Diaz’s manager and trainer Cesar Gracie explained why the matchup has yet to happen.

This local TV news interview with mixed martial arts coach Greg Jackson doesn’t break any news for anyone who follows the sport, but it’s interesting for a few reasons anyway.

For starters, it’s a reminder of how far MMA is from being mainstream: When a local channel (in this case, KRQE in Albuquerque) does a show on MMA, they feel the need to spend a full minute telling the viewers to brace themselves because it’s “not for the faint of heart.” It’s just assumed that most of the viewers will have no idea what MMA is, and will be turned off when they see the footage.

But once we get that bit of unpleasantness out of the way, the interview is also interesting because Jackson does such an impressive job of portraying MMA as a cerebral exercise, not a violent competition.
