Dan Henderson shook up the MMA community when the UFC legend took out No. 14-ranked (WW) Hector Lombard, in their middleweight clash Saturday night at UFC 196, with some vicious elbows to the Cuban’s face.

This was Lombard’s welterweight debut following a third round thrashing at the hands of Neil Magny back in March at UFC Fight Night 85. Lombard was returning from a year-long suspension after testing positive for an illegal substance following his win over Josh Burkman in 2015, which resulted in his unanimous decision win being turned into a no-contest.

Henderson has now won two of his last four bouts via KO, with his most recent Octagon appearance resulting in an upsetting KO loss to No. 3-ranked Vitor Belfort back in November at UFC Fight Night 77. ‘Hendo’s’ last Octagon victory came in June of 2015 against Tim Boetsch, with Henderson knocking out Boetsch twenty-eight seconds into the first round.

Following his win over Lombard, Henderson admitted that he is contemplating retirement, however, he won’t make any decisions just yet off of emotion.

Dan Henderson (32-14) is known for his “H-Bomb” of a right hand, but at UFC 199 he brought out the “H-Bow” against Hector Lombard (34-6-1, 2 NC).

The two veteran middleweights went toe-to-toe in one of the most exciting bouts of 2016.

The fight started off with a lot of tension. Both men understood the power the other possessed and they were not going to make a mistake right out of the gate.

As they got more comfortable with their range, the power shots came. Henderson connected with a straight right hand that caught Lombard flush.

Lombard began to come forward and that is when Henderson cracked him with a big right hand. It hurt Lombard, but as Henderson went in for the finish he got clipped himself with a left. Lombard tossed Henderson to the canvas and advanced to the crucifix position. Henderson worked his way up to his feet, but Lombard uncorked another power shot that knocked Henderson down.

The American survived the round, but it didn’t look good for the former PRIDE welterweight and middleweight champion.

After each took hard strikes in the first round, there was a clear respect for each other’s power as the second got underway. And just like that, it was over.

Henderson threw a kick that Lombard caught, and then Henderson connected with a back elbow that put Lombard out cold. Henderson followed up with a couple vicious elbows on the ground before the referee could peel him off of Lombard’s lifeless body.

It’s difficult to gauge what’s next for Lombard. This was his return to middleweight, and he got iced. Vitor Miranda recently suffered a loss of his own, and would make for an appropriate next bout for Lombard’s return.

Henderson is an even bigger question mark.

After taking a lot of damage throughout his MMA career the end is definitely near. But will he continue to fight on? Perhaps not. In the post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, Henderson noted that this could have been his final fight.

If that’s the case, then he went out in true Henderson style in front of a friendly California crowd. A true legend deserves to go out in such an impressive and exciting manner.

Hector Lombard Planning ‘Beautiful’ Victory Over ‘Fu**witt’ Dan Henderson

Cuban slugger Hector “Showeather” Lombard will be making his return to 185-pounds on the main card of this weekend’s (June 4, 2016) UFC 199 from The Forum in Inglewood, California. Cuban slugger Hector “Showeather” Lombard will be making his return to 185-pounds on the main card of this weekend’s (June 4, 2016) UFC 199 from The Forum in Inglewood, California.

Lombard will be taking on former Olympian and mixed martial arts legend Dan “Hendo” Henderson, and apparently there is some bad blood between the two – or at least from Lombard’s side – as the former Bellator champion blasted Henderson on a recent edition of Submission Radio:

“Dan Henderson is just fake. Fake guy, comes across like a nice guy when he’s not. You know if one day I have, let’s suppose that I have a Hector Lombard training camp or Hector Lombard facility, and some young guy [comes in to train], because trust me, even at ATT a bunch of guys came from Australia and I introduced myself. Like, ‘Hey man, how are you doing?’ Even guys from New Zealand like JJ and a bunch of others and young kids, I introduce myself, I tell them, ‘Whatever you need, just give me a call.’ I exchange numbers, you know, we talk quite a bit, we go, we do some training together. It’s not a big deal, ey? This fuckwitt is kind of like ‘Oh, I’m more than you.’ So he doesn’t care for me and I don’t care for him either.”

Lombard hasn’t technically won a fight since March 2014, and is coming off of a brutal stoppage loss at the hands of Neil Magny at UFC Fight Night 85 last March.

“Showeather”, however, is predicting a ‘beautiful’ victory over Henderson, as he feels as if his body won’t fail him as he claims it did last time out:

“I see myself beating him in a beautiful fashion. I’m gonna be fast, I’m gonna explosive. I don’t believe that my body is gonna be so tired and my body’s gonna give up on me in this fight, cause I only have to cut 15, 20 pounds. So that’s easy for me. I don’t believe that my body is going to give up on me again. So yeah. I’ll tell you, when my body’s functioning properly, I will be there like a pistol. You will see.”

Many have labeled Lombard as a risky test for the ageing veteran in “Hendo”, who has lost three of his last four bouts, and is coming off of a devastating knockout loss to Vitor Belfort last November.

Despite his recent skid, however, Henderson and his legendary right hand can never be counted out of a fight.

Who do you see taking this one home?

Hector Lombard Calls Dan Henderson “Fake Guy” Ahead Of UFC 199 Meeting

This coming Saturday night, a battle of former champions will take place at UFC 199 as Dan Henderson meets Hector Lombard.

While both have found success inside the Octagon, they rose to prominence and earned gold in other promotions. Henderson won the Strikeforce title before returning to the UFC, while Lombard left Bellator having never lost the belt.

As veterans of the sport, one would think there would be a mutual respect going into Saturday’s battle. But that’s not the case as far as Lombard is concerned, as he explained during a recent appearance on Submission Radio.

“Dan Henderson is just fake. Fake guy, comes across like a nice guy when he’s not. If somebody comes to my training camp and wants to train – you know if one day I have, let’s suppose that I have a Hector Lombard training camp or Hector Lombard facility, and some young guy (comes in to train) – cause trust me, even at ATT a bunch of guys came from Australia and I introduced myself. Like, “hey man how are you doing?”.

“I tell them “whatever you need, just give me a call”. I exchange numbers, you know, we talk quite a bit, we go, we do some training together. It’s not a big deal, ey? This (expletive) is kind of like “oh, I’m more than you”. So he doesn’t care for me and I don’t care for him either.”

Lombard also mentioned that he wants to move up to light heavyweight soon, adding that his plan is to “whoop Tim Boetsch” at that division. Boetsch earned a 2012 split decision over Lombard in his UFC debut.
