#14 UFC featherweight contender, Giga Chikadze may have just lodged the most high-profile win of his professional mixed martial arts career — stopping veteran, Cub Swanson with an opening round liver kick.

Extending his undefeated streak to six-fights in the Octagon, Chikadze managed to land a stiff liver kick on Swanson with just over a minute elasped in the first round, drawing a noticable reaction from division staple, Swanson. Eventually dropping to his knees, Swanson was met by a flurry of ground strikes from the Georgian — with referee, Jason Herzog calling a halt to the action.

During his post-fight interview with UFC lightweight contender, Paul Felder, Chikadze voiced his interest in a showdown against former featherweight champion, Max Holloway. And if not the Hawaiian next, Chikadze suggested a pairing against New England Cartel feature, Calvin Kattar.

Luana Pinheiro has her first win under the UFC’s banner, in the form of an opening round disqualification ruling against division veteran, Randa Markos after she was struck with an illegal upkick.

In an exciting couple of exchanges in the opening round, the Brazilian landed an unintentional eye poke against Markos, which seemed to open a cut on her right eyelid. After consulting the Octagon-side physician, Markos was cleared to continue, however, she appeared to be quite cautious about returning to action as he began blinking and wiping the blood from her eye.

Scoring a judo throw on a now uber-aggressive Markos, Pinheiro landed the Iraqi born veteran on her head. Moving to her back near the centre of the Octagon, Markos threw an illegal upkick, catching Pinheiro in her face, knocking her back and eventually to the canvas.

With referee, Mark Smith calling a halt to the action, Pinheiro, who appeared to be effected significantly by the shot, asked if she had lost the fight as she lay on her back. Waving the fight off as a result, Octagon announcer, Joe Martinez confirmed the Brazilian had taken a disqualification victory.

Launching a massive straight right in the second round, Usman immediately sent Masvidal to the canvas, before following up with a flurry of brutal hammerfists.

Wrestling Masvidal to the canvas in the opening round with a bodylock, Usman took the opening round, 10-9 on all three judge’s scorecards likely — but he stamped his status as arguably the greatest pound-for-pound fighter on the planet in the second round.

With just over a minute gone in the frame, Usman launched a huge straight right, stopping Masvidal with an incredible shot.

With just over a minute elapsed in the opening round as Weili attempted to find her range with some low kicks, Namajunas sprang with a picture-perfect, left high-kick, sending the incumbent to the canvas — before following up with two hammerfists, forcing referee, Keith Peterson to stop the contest.

Namajunas becomes a two-time strawweight champion, and becomes the first woman in the promotion’s history to lose and then reclaim a title.

And Still. Valentina ‘Bullet’ Shevchenko remains the undisputed UFC flyweight champion, knocking back arguably, on paper at least, the sternest challenge to her throne in the form of former strawweight best, Jessica Andrade.

Utilising her wrestling and grappling accumen throughout the two round affair, Shevchenko repeatedly took Andrade to the canvas from the opening round through to the second, moving to side control with ease on occasion.

Eventually forcing the issue, the Kyrgyzstan native, took side control once more before eventually assuming mounted crucifix. In a very similar display to her UFC 247 win over Katlyn Chookagian last year, Shevchenko began unloading with strikes from the top, slicing Andrade with elbows, forcing referee, Dan Miragliotta to stop the championship contest.

Anthony ‘Lionheart’ Smith has scored his second consecutive victory, taking a first round win over Jimmy Crute, however, it didn’t come in the most ideal circumstances for the Nebraksa native.

Scoring notable jabs from the onset and throughout their opening round clash, Smith was suffering with some calf kick attempts from Crute, before he replied with a single leg offence of his own. Landing directly behind the knee of Crute, Smith immediately drew a wobble from the Australian.

Appearing to suffer from ‘drop foot’, akin to Sean O’Malley against Marlon Vera, Henry Cejudo against Demetrious Johnson, and Michael Chandler against Brent Primus — Crute was forced to immediately shoot for a takedown on two separate occasions prior to the first round klaxon.

Failing to make it back to his stool in between rounds without a stumble, the Octagon-sided physician beckoned Crute to walk toward him in the centre of the Octagon, which he couldn’t do without stumbling. It’s not ideal circumstances for Smith but he’s now riding a two-fight rise.
