Holly Holm shuts down fight with Kayla Harrison at UFC 300 if she misses weight

Former undisputed bantamweight champion, Holly Holm has shot down the possibility of fighting incoming debutante, Kayla Harrison, if the Ohio native fails to make the bantamweight limit successfully in her upcoming bow at UFC 300 in April.

Holm, the second undisputed bantamweight champion in the history of the promotion, and the inaugural featherweight title chaser, has been sidelined since she headlined an August event at the UFC Apex facility against recent title challenger, Mayra Bueno Silva, in an eventual official ‘No Contest’.

As for Harrison, the high-profile Octagon acquisition is slated to make her long-anticipated debut in the promotion at UFC 300 – boasting a 16-1 professional record, as well as two separate summer Olympic Games gold medal wins in Judo, and a pair of PFL lightweight tournament victories since her move to the sport.

And despite opening as a significant betting favorite to beat Holm in her landing at UFC 300, Harrison has been the subject of speculation regarding her ability to successful cut to the 136lbs non-title limit for the first time since her mixed martial arts career began.

Holly Holm urges Kayla Harrison to make weight at UFC 300

Promotional CEO, Dana White has claimed recently how the American Top Team staple has successfully made multiple test weight cuts to the bantamweight limit ahead of her move, however, as far as Holm is concerned, there will be no fight against Kayla Harrison in April if the latter fails to tip the scales successfully.

“I’m on the stance that you need to make weight, that’s just how it is,” Holly Holm told MMA Fighting. “I think that her (Kayla Harrison) mindset should be on, ‘I’m going to make weight,’ because she took the fight at 135 [pounds]. So, I think it’s simple. I don’t think it should be super detailed.”

“You think about that fight with ‘Wonderboy’ [and Michel Pereira],” Holly Holm continued. “His opponent came in three pounds over and people were like, ‘Oh, it’s only three rounds.’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, if it’s only three pounds, then go lose the three pounds.’ You know what I mean? There’s two ways to look at it. It’s only this or it’s only that. You can look at it from a lot of different antles, but as a professional, find out how to make weight. I work hard to make my weight, so I expect the same.”

If it’s not for a world title, Holly Holm has no interest in fighting.

The former women’s bantamweight champion will return to the Octagon on April 13 to welcome the promotion’s latest blockbuster signing, Kayla Harrison. Given Harrison’s history as a two-time PFL champion and being one of the most popular female mixed martial artists on the planet, she will likely earn herself a shot at UFC gold should she come out on top against ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ in her highly anticipated debut.

Appearing on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Holm expects that to work both ways, noting that if a win over Harrison doesn’t get her closer to a bantamweight title opportunity, what’s the point?

“I’ve fought for the belt more than once,” Holm said. “They want to see other people fight for the belt, but you’ve also gotta put people in line that deserve to be there and there’s a reason why I have been up there. I’ve stayed ranked in the top five for a really long time so my goal was always to get to the belt. If I’m not fighting for the belt, I don’t want to be fighting at all.

“If I don’t have some kind of path to the belt, I really don’t want to do it. I’m not just fighting for a payday. I’m not just fighting for fun. I have a goal in mind and that’s always it.”

After earning back-to-back wins against Raquel Pennington and Marion Reneau, Holly Holm shocked the world at UFC 193 with a shocking second-round knockout of Ronda Rousey to claim the 135-pound crown. She lost the title four months later, succumbing to a rear-naked choke in her defense against Miesha Tate.

Holm has had three championship fight opportunities since then, two at featherweight and one at bantamweight. She came up short in each.

As for Kayla Harrison, the two-time Olympic gold medalist has established herself as one of WMMA’s most dominant fighters. Since making her professional debut in 2018, she has amassed a 16-1 record and won back-to-back lightweight titles under the PFL banner. She earned a decision victory over former UFC standout Aspen Ladd in November. Two months later, Dana White announced that Harrison had signed with the promotion and would make her first appearance at UFC 300.

Kayla Harrison backed to make 135 pounds in UFC 300 debut she made it a couple of times

Former two-time PFL (Professional Fighters League) lightweight tournament victor, Kayla Harrison will have no struggle making the 135 pound limit for the first time in her fighting career, according to Dana White, with the CEO confident of the Ohio native’s ability to hit the mark inaugurally at UFC 300 in April.

Harrison, a former two-time lightweight tournament victor under the Peter Murray-led PFL banner, also struck gold twice in separate summer Olympic Games, partaking in Judo.

And forever linked with a potential move to the Octagon since transitioning to mixed martial arts back in 2018, Harrison had been linked with a super fight of sorts against former two-division gold holder, Amanda Nunes prior to the Brazilian’s retirement in June of last year.

Booked to finally make good on that move, Harrison, 33, will take on former undisputed bantamweight champion, Holly Holm at UFC 300 in April – in a potential title-eliminator.

And widely backed as a betting favorite to beat the Albuquerque veteran in her Octagon landing, fans have questioned Harrison’s ability to make a drastic cut to 135 pounds in order to compete in the bantamweight division – amid a fleeting and featherweight class likely on borrowed time – if not un-officially axed.

As far as the aforenoted, White is concerned, however, fans should be rest assured of Harrison’s ability to make the bantamweight limit – following several successful test-cuts.

“She’s (Kayla Harrison) already made 135 [pounds] a couple of times,” Dana White siad during an Instagram Live session this week.

In her most recent outing, Harrison, who boasts an impressive 16-1 professional record, landed a decision win over former UFC bantamweight contender, Aspen Ladd at PFL 10 back in November of last year in Washington.

Kayla Harrison opens as betting favorite to beat Holly Holm at UFC 300 in Octagon debut

Booked to make a stunning move and debut in the Octagon later this year amid years of constant speculation, two-time PFL (Professional Fighters League) lightweight tournament winner, Kayla Harrison has opened as a sizeable betting favorite to beat former bantamweight champion, Holly Holm, following the announcement of their UFC 300 clash in April.

Harrison, a former two-time back-to-back lightweight tournament winner with the PFL in both 2019 and 2021, was confirmed as the Dana White-led UFC’s most recent signing overnight, with the promotional leader revealing the Ohio native will also make an organizational debut in a bantamweight debut against ex-champion, Holm.

Booked to make her Octagon return for the first time since her initial ninja choke submission loss to recent vacant title challenger, Mayra Bueno Silva was overturned to an official ‘No Contest’, Holm makes a comeback at UFC 300 – welcoming the dominant Kayla Harrison to the organization.

And opening as a massive betting favorite to beat the Albuquerque striking veteran in her promotional debut, Harrison has already drawn odds in the region of -310 as a betting favorite to beat the boxing Hall of Fame inductee, who is a current +250 betting underdog.

Kayla Harrison opens as betting favorite ahead of UFC 300 landing

With a slew of fans hopeful of placing wagers and other notable nets on Kayla Harrison’s massive Octagon debut against Holly Holm, bettors and punters can find information at the link provided, as UFC 300 continues to stack its card high – and land another attractive fight to prospective bettors and market players

Boasting an eye-catching 16-1 professional record, 33-year-old grappling talent, Harrison returned to the winner’s enclosure back in November of last year at PFL 10, landing a unanimous decision win over former bantamweight challenger, Aspen Ladd.

Suffering just a singular career defeat since her transition to mixed martial arts, Kayla Harrison suffered a decision loss to three-time foe, Larissa Pacheco in the pair’s lightweight tournament finale, having previously racked up to wins over the Brazilian.

During the course of her professional career, Kayla Harrison, a two-time Olympic gold medalist in Judo, fought just once under the banner of the Shannon Knapp-led Invicta FC, has turned in notable victories against the likes of the above-mentioned, Pacheco, as well as Mariana Morais, Genah Fabian, Kaitlin Young, and the previously stated, Ladd.

As for Holm, the former undisputed bantamweight championship holder and inaugural featherweight title chaser, shocked the world in its entirety at UFC 193 back in 2015, handing inaugural bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey a thunderous second round high-kick KO loss in the pair’s heated title grudge fight.

Attempting to make a bantamweight career walk for the first time since her move to the sport back in 2018, Kayla Harrison has competed exclusively at the lightweight limit in the Peter Murray-led PFL.

And with that added caveat, fans and punters alike will be keeping a rather close eye on whether or not the Ohio native can successfully make the bantamweight limit in her April debut – ahead of potential blockbuster fights for gold, and continued speculation regarding a return for Amanda Nunes from her retirement in June of last year.
