Kayla Harrison signs with the UFC from the PFL set to fight Holly Holm in debut at UFC 300

Multiple time PFL (Professional Fighters League) lightweight tournament victor, Kayla Harrison has signed a multi-fight deal to make a spectacular move to the Octagon in April – making a promotional debut against former bantamweight champion, Holly Holm at UFC 300 – in her first walk at the 135 pound limit to boot.

Harrison, a two-time PFL lightweight tournament winner, most recently featured at PFL 10 back in November of last year in Washington, landing a unanimous decision win over former UFC bantamweight contender, Aspen Ladd.

Returning to the winner’s enclosure, Harrison, a two-time Olympic gold medalist in Judo, had dropped her first professional loss in the form of a judging defeat to Brazilian champion and another Octagon alum, Larissa Pacheco the November prior.

As for Holm, the Albuquerque striking expert has been sidelined since her initial ninja choke submission loss to recent UFC 297 co-headliner, Mayra Bueno Silva, was overtuned to an official ‘No Contest’ following their July clash.

Miesha Tate accused of turning down rematch with Holly Holm at UFC 300 we're looking for someone tougher

Former undisputed bantamweight champion, Miesha Tate has been accused of refusing a rematch fight with fellow former division titleholder, Holly Holm according to the latter’s manager, who has claimed the former has turned down multiple offers to fight the Albuquerque veteran – amid continued links to a re-run at UFC 300 next year.

Tate, a former undisputed bantamweight champion, made her return to the Octagon and the bantamweight limit at the start of the month at UFC Austin, turning in a dominant performance en route to a one-sided third round rear-naked choke win over Julia Avila.

The victory snapped a two-fight skid for Washington veteran, Tate, who also recorded her first stoppage victory since dispatching the above-mentioned, Holm in the co-main event of UFC 196 back in 2016 in the pair’s undisputed bantamweight championship fight.

Miesha Tate accused of ducking Holly Holm rematch

And weighing up the option of squaring off with the Jackson-Wink MMA staple, Holm in a rematch – amid talk of a potential re-run against common-foe and inaugural bantamweight queen, Ronda Rousey, Tate has been accused of refusing multiple offers to fight Holm again.

“She (Miesha Tate) wants nothing to do with Holly (Holm),” Lenny Fresquez told MMA Junkie during a recent interview. “She’s turned down the fight three times already. We are looking for someone tougher.”

Headlining UFC Vegas 77 most recently back in July, Holm, the current number six ranked bantamweight contender suffered an initial second round ninja choke submission loss to incoming UFC 297 vacant title chaser, Mayra Bueno Silva until the bout was overturned to an official ‘No Contest’ after the Brazilian tested positive for ritalinic acid following the main event bout.

Miesha Tate eyes UFC 300 return rematch with Holly Holm that would be fun to run back

Former undisputed bantamweight champion, Miesha Tate has welcomed the possibility of a long-anticipated rematch with fellow former gold holder, Holly Holm, suggesting a potential return at UFC 300 next April, if she’s avoided a severe injury following her return to the Octagon last weekend.

Tate, a former undisputed bantamweight champion under the banner of the promotion, featured at UFC Austin last weekend, landing a dominant third round rear-naked choke win over Julia Avila, snapping her two-fight losing skid.

With the stoppage win, Washington fan-favorite, Tate turned in her first finish since landing a fifth round rear-naked choke submission win over Holm in the pair’s championship fight at UFC 196 back in 2016.

Linked with a potential trilogy fight with fellow former bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey in the immediate aftermath of her UFC Austin win, it appears the Riverside native has a lack of “interest” in a third fight with the former champion.

And laying out her plans for a return at UFC 300 if she remains significant injury free, Tate weighed-up a potential re-run with Albuquerque veteran, Holm next April.

“I think it’s a great time,” Miesha Tate told MMA Fighting regarding a return at UFC 300. “I think that sounds reasonable. I think I got a little bit of an injury leaving that fight [with Julia Avila]. So, I’ve got to get an MRI and check myself out just make sure. But it’s not very severe… I’ve been walking around, and I think I’m actually all right. I think I’ll be OK. So if I can do that, then I think Holly (Holm) would be a fantastic one.”

“She was kind of like edging me on the feet, I’ll give her that,” Miesha Tate explained. “I absolutely smashed her on the ground. So, anyway, to answer your question, I think it would be fun to run that one back.”

Mayra Bueno Silva positive drug test return after UFC Vegas 77 win Holly Holm ADHD medication

Surging bantamweight contender, Mayra Bueno Silva has announced on her official social media tonight, that she has been notified of a failed drug test return, in relation to an in-competition test sample submitted ahead of her UFC Vegas 78 headliner with former champion, Holly Holm back in July.

Bueno Silva, the current number three ranked bantamweight contender, headlined UFC Vegas 78 back in July against former undisputed division champion, Holm, submitting the Albuquerque native with a second round ninja choke, which came as her fourth consecutive victory.

Mayra Bueno Silva reveals positive drug test return after UFC Vegas 77

However, tonight, the Brazilian challenger has confirmed she has been notified of a positive drug test result she had submitted, pointing to ADHD medication she utilizes, and pleading her innocence in a statement released.

“It is with deep regret that I have to announce I failed a drug test that I took the week of my fight against Holly Holm,” Mayra Bueno Silva wrote. “I want to begin by saying I have never in my life taken a substance to enhance my ability in or outside the cage. I have tested positive for a substance that is consistent with the prescription medication I take for my ADHD. I have been dealing with this disorder my entire life and it affects me in a multitude of ways.”

“I have provided a plethora of documents and explanations to USADA and the Nevada State Athletic Commission detailing the disorder, the effects of the disorder on my daily life and my decision making in the ingestion of the prescription medicine. I am fully cooperating with USADA, the Nevada State Athletic Commission and the UFC to make sure that all information is available and I fully acknowledge the presence of the subctance in my system.”

“I discontinued this medication at the beginning of the fight week, like I always have in the past. So while it appeared in a small amount in my system, I am told by experts that it would not have an effect on my in-competition performance at that level.”

“Please, before you make any judgements, understand that I have been dealing with this my whole life and I am devastated that this has happened in my career,” Mayra Bueno Silva continued. “I look forward to coming to a resolution and putting this behind me. I look forward to fighting again for the best organization in the world. I am the next champion and I am ready to fight.”

While Mayra Bueno Silva is likely to have the most high-profile victory of her UFC tenure overturned in the form of her submission win over Holm, the NSAC are scheduled to hold a disciplinary hearing for the Brazilian on Thursday this week.

Bueno Silva is expected to be granted a temporary suspension with a sanctioning ruling expected to then be announced in the future at a subsequent commission meeting.
