Unbeaten welterweight striker, Ian Garry appears to have given up on his pursuit of a potential title-eliminator against former champion, Colby Covington, and has now switched his focus to a clash against recent UFC addition, Michael Venom Page in a summer comeback.
Garry, the current number seven ranked welterweight contender, returned at UFC 298 back in February in Anaheim, turning in a close split decision win over Geoff Neal to improve to 14-0 as a professional.
As for former Bellator MMA championship challenger, Page, the London striker made his long-anticipated Octagon bow at UFC 299 back in March against Kevin Holland, turning in a one-sided unanimous judging win over the promotional staple.
In turn, Garry has revealed recently he’s agreed to fight the likes of Sean Brady as well as recent UFC St. Louis winner, Joaquin Buckley – and even recent promotional debutante, Michael Venom Page.
“I can only fight down in the rankings, and this is where I’ve got to show that I will fight anyone,” Ian Garry told talkSPORT during a recent interview.
“I’ve said yes [to fighting against Michael Venom Page],” Ian Garry explained. “I’ve said yes to that name, him and his coaches are deciding because he seems a bit heavy to make weight in seven weeks’ time, but I’ve said yes.”

Ian Garry says Colby Covington is running from him as he knows he’s a terrible stylistic matchup for ‘Chaos.
Garry and Covington have been taking shots at one another as of late, but currently, no fight has been made or agreed to. It’s disappointing to fans that the fight is not a done deal as Garry claims Covington is running from him.
“There’s only one person I want right now,” Ian Garry told Full Send backstage at UFC 301. “I’ve made it very f—king clear who I want. Everyone knows his name. Colby, come out, come out wherever you are. He’s running. He’s gonna keep running. He doesn’t want this smoke.
“He doesn’t want it,” he continued. “He knows that I’m a terrible stylistic match-up for him. When you look at it, I’ve never been taken down in the UFC. His only goal against me is to try to take me down and put me on my back. There’s a reason I’m in Brazil training with Demian Maia and Charles Oliveira, Chute Boxe. That’s exactly the part of my game I’m looking forward to someone bringing me to.”
The hope for Garry was to get on UFC 303 and be the co-main event to Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler.
Ian Garry vows to ‘ragdoll’ Colby Covington.
Ian Garry says if Colby Covington signs the contract, he believes he would ragdoll ‘Chaos’ as he doesn’t think the fight would be close at all.
“If Colby signs that contract, I’m gonna walk out with my knee up going, ‘Take the f—kin’ thing. Take the f—kin’ thing and see what happens,’” Garry said. “I will ragdoll him. I promise you. There’s no doubt in my mind I will ragdoll him. That’s why he’s not signing the contract. That’s why he’s not agreeing to the fight. He’s avoiding all conversations with the UFC. He doesn’t want the smoke, pal.”
Garry is undefeated and has looked good in the UFC, and if he does fight and beat Covington, it would allow him to be a one away from a title shot at welterweight.

Ian Garry has signed on the dotted line. Now it’s Colby Covington’s turn.
On Monday, ‘The Future’ revealed via a post on Instagram that he has accepted an offer to fight his welterweight rival. Garry added that there is already a date in place, he’s just waiting for ‘Chaos’ to sign off and make things official.
“What’s up, everyone? It’s Tuesday, the 9th of April at ten past one and I just want to let everyone know that I have agreed to fight Colby Covington,” Garry said. “There is a date in place. Colby still hasn’t signed the contract.”
As of this writing, Covington has not responded to Garry’s claim. Presumably, ‘Chaos’ is still trying to catch his breath after sucking up to Donald Trump last week.
Ian Garry plans on retiring Colby Covington in potential clash
Garry and Covington have been going after one another on social media since late last year when the three-time UFC title challenger jumped on the bandwagon and began belittling the Irishman’s wife, Layla Machado Garry. Since then, ‘The Future’ has made his intentions with Covington crystal clear.
“I’ll step into that Octagon, and I’ll retire him,” Garry said in an interview with MMA Fighting. “That’s my goal. My whole goal when I fight Colby Covington is that he never puts on MMA gloves ever again.”
Covington previously released a pair of videos, laying out three stipulations that Garry would have to meet before he would agree to fight the rising contender — the most egregious being that Garry’s wife would have to “get down on her knees” and beg him for the fight.
Aside from the personal animosity between Covington and Garry, the two 170-pounders are sitting at No. 4 and No. 7 in the rankings, respectively, making their potential class a logical one from both a divisional and a money-making standpoint.
The Future’ once again lived up to his moniker, scoring a split decision victory over welterweight staple Geoff Neal at UFC 298. As a result, Garry slid into the No. 7 spot in the 170-pound rankings — three spots behind his next target, Colby Covington.
Speaking with MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz, Garry made it clear that a clash with ‘Chaos’ is on the agenda for UFC 303 when the promotion returns to Las Vegas on June 29.
“Look, if Colby wants to fight in his back garden tomorrow, I will fly to Miami and fight him in his back garden,” Garry said. “I don’t care when it is. I just want him as the opponent. I want him to be a man and step into the Octagon and face his fears. Face the man who he’s talked a lot of sh*t about, and watch what happens when you get in there. God will be good. He will give me Colby Covington whenever, wherever I want him, and he will say, ‘Ian, have fun.’”
Covington last competed in December, coming up short against reigning welterweight champion Leon Edwards at UFC 296. Since then, the three-time title challenger has been relentlessly targeting Ian Garry and his wife, Layla Machado Garry, in a series of NSFW videos and social media posts.
“I want to fight him because of the following he has, the respect on his name as one of the better fighters in this division and has been for a long time,” Garry said. “I want to fight him because of all the sh*t that he has talked about me and my family, and I’m going to make sure that he regrets every word he’s said.
“But I also know that even if it was the best Colby Covington we ever seen, he would never stand a chance against me. No matter how good Colby Covington ever could be or would be, he would never be able to beat me. I’m too elite. I’m too fast. I’m too technically brilliant. He just doesn’t stand a chance. I don’t think the guy deserves any respect in the world, to be honest with you. The sh*t he talks … I’ll step into that Octagon, and I’ll retire him. That’s my goal. My whole goal to when I fight Colby Covington is that he never puts on MMA gloves ever again.”
Ian Garry Determined to retire Colby Covington in Potential Octagon clash
Now training at Chute Boxe in São Paulo, Ian Garry would love the chance to fight in the Land of the Holy Cross, but he simply can’t see Colby Covington accepting the invite, particularly after ‘Chaos’ made an enemy of the entire country during his clash with Demian Maia in 2017.
“I don’t think Colby Covington wants to come back to Rio after all the sh*t he said last time he was in Brazil versus Demian [Maia],” said Garry, referring to when Covington defeated Maia in Brazil and then slammed the country during his post-fight speech. “I think he’ll stay away. I think he’d end up dead.
“That’s the truth, I think he’d end up dead. I think there’s no way that happens, because Colby is too much of a b*tch. But I will fight in Brazil one day, and I will be so happy to put on the yellow shorts and be the main event in Brazil, and I’ll carry the Irish flag on one shoulder and the Brazilian flag on the other.”
With Garry and Covington trading barbs since late last year, everything is seemingly teed up for the UFC to take advantage of the intense situation and book the welterweight grudge match for later this year. Whether or not that actually happens remains to be seen. But if given the opportunity, ‘The Future’ has every intention of retiring Colby Covington emphatically.
“You don’t deserve to be here,” Garry said. “You don’t deserve to be at the top of the division anymore. I’m going to retire you. All of Brazil is going to have a smile on their face when I knock you unconscious and leave you in a puddle of your own blood, face down on the canvas. Colby, you’re done. Fala tchau. [Say bye.]”
